My 3 daughters and I began a tradition in 2011 of having a Christmas baking day. Now my grand daughters join the fun. We make hundreds of cookies, pies baklava, even homemade rolls. At the end of the day we make up trays to donate. We have taken goodies to the local, police department, fire stations and last year a memory care facility, we all fill tins to take home too. It’s a day we all look forward. I’ll be adding these cookies to my list for baking day❤.
These look delicious! My wife and I have been getting a Collins Street Bakery fruit cake for as long as I can remember but they have become so expensive that this year we won't be ordering one - wife says she can make a whole Christmas dinner for what they want for one of their fruit cakes! So I think we're going to try making these cookies instead to substitute for the fruit cake this time. Remember to always get your ingredients "well acquainted with one another" -- lol - hope you and yours have a very blessed Christmas!
My mother started sending me a Collin Street Bakery fruitcake after Mrs. Baird's Bread quit making them. I asked not to have one this year as I'm trying to lose weight; however, I may reconsider, lol!
What a great idea, sounds like you might've done that before -lol- what and how much of the spices do you put in your loaf - I'm a "novice" at this. @@CatherineKeehn-l6k
My beloved mother’inlaw used to make the best fruitcake. There were no bitters or rum, just tiny diced red and green cherries and yellow raisins and candied pineapple (hard to find), and walnuts. It was like a very dense pound cake, and it was DELICIOUS. I remember it being very time consuming to cut up all the fruits, and she would be very frugal when and for whom she would serve it.
I literally cheered when I saw that there was a new video from MeMe and KayKay today! It made me so happy! And the cookies look delicious! And I love to repeat with you "One stick a butta', 3 hundred and 50 degrees, and bottom rack"!!! I love you two! You give me so much joy! 😊❤
You are just about the cutest thing ever! Thank you! My grandparents made a 25 lb. fruit cake back in the 70's. They broke a spoon trying to mix it all up. I thought it was the nastiest thing I had ever put in my mouth. Many years later, I had fruit cake cookies, and I thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I make cookies every Christmas using the typical Toll House cookie recipe, however, instead of chocolate chips I use white chocolate, I then add dried cranberries, chopped pecans or walnuts (or a combo of the 2 nuts) and some orange zest. Oh my goodness they’re great and the whole family loves them! You can also make oatmeal cookies and add white chocolate chips, nuts, dried cranberries, and orange zest! Both kinds are delicious!
MeMe Is the sweetest lady I've ever seen on TH-cam and if I could give her 5-Thumbs Up on her videos, I would! What a sweet spirit, and I love that she loves the Lord! I will watch her as often as she will post, and her recipes are incredible! YOU GO GIRL, and may God bless and keep you!!!! AZ Food Critic
We made candied pineapple for years, it’s so good! What most people find objectionable in fruitcake is the candied citron, even if they can’t identify it, so we don’t put it in. Dried cherries instead of candied make it really tasty.
Those look like the ones my neighbor used to make and gift us every year while she was able. Such fond memories of her caring for our family in such a sweet way! Thank you for this recipe and reminder of Christmas treasures! ❤😊
I have been waiting for the holidays to make these. I love fruitcake and so did my father. Sorry he is no longer here. He would have loved these cookies. Thank you again for sharing.
I have to admit I love fruitcake and these looks delicious! Always love your presentation and having KK in the background is the best added ingredient! Love you two.❤️❤️
One of my grandmothers used to make a fruitcake every Christmas using graham cracker crumbs, butter, marshmallow cream (I think), and candied fruits and pecans. She would use the graham cracker box to shape it and it was refrigerated. I lost her recipe and haven't been able to replicate it. But I have fond memories of gladly accepting a slice whenever I was at her house. It was terribly sweet ... just the way I like it. I think I may have inherited my sweer tooth from her 😊
Another inspiring video. I LOVE fruitcake so this weekend I know what I’ll be doing. So glad to find your video today they are one of the best parts of the early week. Thank you both for making them.
My mother made fruit cakes and gave them away at Christmas. People who didn’t like fruitcake loved hers. She passed almost 8 years ago, and I have misplaced her recipe! Hoping I find it one day! Anyway, your cookies remind me a lot of her cake recipe. They look sooo good! Thank you! So glad I bought your cookbook! Hope you have a SONshiny day! ❤️🙏🏻
I've made these before and gotten rave reviews. This year I waited too long and can't find the candied fruit anywhere 😢 Enjoy those delicious cookies 😍
Hi MeMe and KayKay! I always enjoy your videos and these cookie look terrific! Some years I make fruitcakes, but not everyone eats it, so this is something nice to put out on the table along with other goodies that will satisfy the fruitcake lovers. Sending warmest wishes from Michigan for a beautiful, blessed and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
These cookie look so good. I made the Pumpkin Bread you made in a recent video, and it was a hit at our home. I have two loafs as gifts and we had one for ourselves. Will definitely be baking more Pumpkin Bread.
My husband has been wanting me to make these. His grandmother used to make them. But we don’t have her recipe. I just made the batter and it’s chilling. He can’t wait to try them!
Me Me, I want to wish you a very Happy New Year. I really enjoy your recipes. I made the tomato pie and the veggie soup. Looking forward to more of your wonderful recipes in 2024.😊😊
My mom made those every Christmas. The only problem was they never lasted till Christmas. There were 5 of us kids so goodies never lasted very long around us kids. Eventually to make them last longer My mom would bake them and store in a round cookie tin and hide them from us kids until around Christmas. We always knew when she made them, the house smelled heavenly when we would get home from school.
I’m going to make those! I have to tell you I’ve just finished watching all of your videos and has anyone ever told you you look like Judy Garland? I’ve showed you to several people and asked them does she look like anyone, and they say yes but not sure who and when I tell them they say omg yes she does! Keep cooking and shine for Jesus!
Real fruit cakes get a bad rap. One year on Christmas Eve I had all my Family over and made a real homemade fruit cake. Not only was everyone impressed but they loved the cake. Those cookies look devine. Kay Kay, cook,,,, you'll love it.
MeMe, perhaps you've explained this before, but what difference does it make using the lower rack instead of the middle? I have always used the middle rack thinking that was the norm. Thank you for your guidance here, I love your videos❣️
This looks like the fruitcake cookies my mom made for years. Recipe probably goes back 70 years or so. The main difference is my mom's recipe called for a bit of whiskey in the batter instead of vanilla. My son-in-law hated fruitcake, but ate TONS of these cookies. They're awesome!
Meme, I love fruitcake, so i just may try your recipe. They look great. Have you ever frozen any, curious to how they hold up? Thanks for sharing. I love your channel and I love the shine for Jesus.
I wonder if the folks at Miele would be interested in sponsoring you, they are known for making terrific ovens and stoves! The reason I thought of them is not only because they’re a nice brand and you deserve the best, Meme, but because I recall they sponsored this little PBS Kids cooking show called Twice as Good and it was these two little girls cooking simple recipes and when they needed a grownup to help, their designated grownup was their grandmother. I used to watch this show with my son when he was very little. But anyway, I think you’d be a great brand ambassador for them so do look into a brand sponsorship replacement for that wonky stove! You really do deserve a great quality stove/oven/cooktop if anybody ever did!!! I just shared your dressing video with a friend online from the UK who was disappointed in some pre made stuffing he bought in the UK… I explained southern US dressing to him and sent your video and he was so intrigued he’s going to try to make some! I just saw your wonderful recipe. Loved your video. I can't wait to try these cookies. My husband is a cookie thief. He likes fruitcake so this will be extra special. About how many do they make? I need your cookbook. Merry Christmas everyone.
I love fruitcake cookies and a *good fruitcake. Most seem to be heavy on the raisins, which, IMHO, should not be allowed in food ... only from the box! 😅 Rsisin Bran is the only exception (and technically, they are from a box 😊
My mother and I made this recipe today! For fun, I made a glaze out of milk, powdered sugar and orange flavoring and brushed it on them lightly. It was a hit at our house! ❤
My Mom used to make these! They were SO GOOD! People are so funny about fruitcake, so she didn't give them to people; only had them for us and for family gatherings. I loved them. But my brother hated anything fruitcake - and LIED and told her he liked them too. I found out after she passed away. She really only made them because she thought everyone (especially him) liked them, and all the time he couldn't stand them. I really scolded him, although I had suspected it all along. Just broke my heart for her! They are very expensive to make, and she didn't want to make them if everyone didn't like them. Well folks, THEY ARE VERY GOOD, trust me! They are very pretty and festive, too.

When my mom was alive she bought me a Collins Street Bakery fruit cake every season. I loved it! I think these cookies will be a great substitute.
Easy cheat is buy a box of pumpkin bread mix. Add spices and all the fruits and nuts with the flour to keep them suspended in the cake as it bakes.

People who think they don't like fruitcake have never had a good homemade fruitcake, rich and dark with lots of nuts and fruit.
Just received my cookbook!!! I only discovered Ms.MeMe this month and I'm hooked. Love her❤❤
Hope you enjoy it!🙂

I’d eat these! I love fruit cake, after years of finally trying it! People always made jokes about how awful it was so I never tried till I was 40!
