I was wondering about that! I noticed immediately that one little pimple in Britain wasn't covered. Problem is, as a simple Canadian yokel, I presume that Birmingham has a "reputation?"
@@ethanhatcher5533 As neither an american nor a british, I'm still unsure of what the idea is. Is it that Birmingham/Cleveland/Pittsburgh are poor industrial cities where people have a reputation for being less ""civilized""? (it's what I'm guessing from researching around but it's not very clear)
Was hoping someone else was thinking the same thing. Kinda strange seeing those maps, never seen the Ottomans without Candar or Venice with Crete outside that game.
When Art required more education than being a doctor. Also the reason why paintings had to be photorealistic was because that was the only way to capture a scene. When photographs and film came into play, the abstraction of modernism took over.
The Fall of the Byzantines is actually a great parallel to how those Roman ideas/texts got lost in the first place. When the Western Roman Empire fell to the "barbarians", prominent citizens who were of value and could manage to flee did so by fleeing to the Eastern Roman Empire, which was already Roman and had those ideas/similar texts in Greek. So the west lost a lot of value and valuable thinkers. Then with time came peace and with peace came increased artistry and thinking, and then when the Eastern Roman Empire started falling the same people of value migrated again, but back to Italy where things had calmed down.
God I EFFING LOVE THIS CHANNEL. I want you to know you’re half the reason I went and got a history degree in my 30s after not being in education for 15 years. Merry Christmas 🎄
I think another reason was the general location. The Italian city states and the Papal States were built on the corpses of the Roman Empire and a lot of those city states were republics that tended to follow a model similar to the Roman Republic that came before the Empire. Because of this that had better access to the architectural and sculptural remains of roman art and began incorporating it and roman philosophy into their art and writing. You can see this in the pre-renaissance era art that was coming about before the Black Death such as The Divine Comedy and The Sienese School of Art, particularly in works such as The Allegory of Good and Bad Government.
@@Haris1 The stereotype of Birmingham in the UK is "post-industrial hellhole." It's not as bad as that in reality, but then not everyone in Florida is crazy and you still get all the Florida Man jokes.
There was actually a chance the Italian states would’ve unified through the Italic League during this period. Unfortunately, it declined massively after the death of Lorenzo De Medici. Imagine a unified Italy 400 years before its actual occurrence.
I love the shade on the artwork, but I could tell that was Patriarch Gennadios talking to Sultan Mehmet II, like it looks like their paintings, just....blocky lol.
Wait a second everyone, he specified “low-effort” during the opening. This videos are ANYTHING BUT low effort! Keep up the amazing work! This is easily one of the best (if not the best) history channel on the platform!

Birmingham, it's bloody great; Birmingham, it's bostin' mate. Oh, Birmingham! You are my love! Take me now!
Another reason for the start of the Italian reniassance is speculated to be the Albesinian crusades and the 'annexation' of Occitania into France. Occitania had a very openminded culture due to the presence of the Cathars and nearby Al-Andalus, the Muslims brougt translated Greek writings and Knowledge with them that the pope had forbidden. When Occitania fell a lot of people moved to Northern Italy bringing their 'forbidden knowledge' with them. Its not the sole reason the Italian reniassance started (as it is always a combination of factors) but still a very much forgotten page of history. (English is not my first language so sorry for maybe some errors).
