    After watching the odd episode here and there when searching for something specific, I am now working my way through the shows from the first. Currently on this episode and I know I have a lot to go yet, but I'll be sad when I catch up through my binge watching. Keep up the good work, it's a brilliant show and I for one really appreciate the effort and time you have put into it, thank you!

    Aah, good old micro drives, always remember absolutely tons of them would always be at the bottom of a computer junk box at my local scouts jumble sale, along with PC daisy chain leads and AOL demo CDs that people "donated" :S
    But I managed to nab a few boxes over the years, nothing special sadly, most of them were marked with things like "Dad's Accounts" etc., not like a bunch of Amiga floppies I found once that were full of porn images that someone had paster Liz Hurley's head over! Seriously!
    But I did a feature on Don't Buy This on TH-cam a few years ago, it's one of my most popular videos! :D

      Now there's a feature waiting to happen! I recently found some personal letters on a 3 inch disc.. nothing special just the usual chat.

      It's one of the treasures of collecting old games are the things people leave in them. It's quite fun to piece together the dates/history and if you're lucky the traits of the previous owner. You hit gold if they've pain-stakingly drawn a map of the game and put it in the box!
      But freakiest thing for me was I bought a copy of Super Wonder Boy for the Spectrum off eBay, there was a receipt inside from when the guy bought it in boots, and the date he bought it was exactly twenty years to the day that I got it through the post!!!

      I literally just had this happen to me. I received a copy of Starquake the other day and tucked inside the inlay card was a beautiful hand drawn map of the entire game on a piece of squared paper, neatly folded up. It must have taken hours to create and was clearly a labour of love. I remember magazines like Crash would print stunning hand drawn maps for games like this back in the day. They just oozed passion and character. It truly was a golden era for gaming.

    9:00 "Knowing that when that whirling noise stopped you had your data safely stored." Errr... 8:20 "The cartridges... have a habit of self destructing" :/

    Great show :-) the micro drives look smaller than 45cm long tho ;-)

    • @BuckingTheTrend2008
      @BuckingTheTrend2008  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did I say 45 - sure it was 4 point 5! Maybe a slip... or my accent ;-)

      Perhaps they appear smaller, because Paul's hands are in fact 10 times the size of a normal human?

    I know it's an error but 45cm's is a big cartridge

  • @TheMcGivvern
    @TheMcGivvern 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    45 cm long and 35 cm wide. Nope, you didn't say point there ;-)
    Slip of the tongue aside, wow, what an awesome show. You made me use both my old speccies again, and seeing I still have around 300 original cassettes I had a blast to the past ;-)

    Paul, as usual, top work. Loved the microdrive feature, never had one myself but it was wonderful to see one in action and working after 30 years!

    I think I have watched every episode, but I never seen anything on the networking (ZXNET) between 2 or more machines. Was this ever covered, can it be covered?

    • @BuckingTheTrend2008
      @BuckingTheTrend2008  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did have plans to cover this with a few network games, but as yet I haven't had the time it would take. Maybe soon.

    I always thought that Hudson Soft developed their Bee Card technology in house, but clearly it must have derived from Astar's earlier technology seen here. Hudson published a number of games for the MSX on Bee Card (including Jet Set Willy) and they would of course go on to refine the format further with their HuCards for PC Engine. I absolutely love HuCards - so Japanese and so beautiful.

      Hi Paul - thanks for the reply. Would it be at all possible to get a copy of it.
      It's not for any commercial use, I just find it an uplifting tune. Thanks.

    Hi Paul, from another Paul, I have only just found your TH-cam channel. and brings back great memories, I was a right hardcore Spectrum user, my best thing I ever did on the ZX-Spectrum 128K was a loading menu for all 3 Horace games, programmed in Z80 code, which transferred the selected game to its correct position in memory & running it, but was unable to return to the menu once a game had been selected & played, contained as one download, you could select any of the games to play.
    I also was a hardcore Microdrive user, i bought in the end, only 2 microdrives, BUT over 300 cartridges, which became really cheap towards the end of the spectrum era. I had over 500 spectrum games, of which I have now sold most of them on Ebay due to money problems. I still have my big box spectrum games & utilities in the cupboard, but some people got a bargain when i sold 50 catridges for between £35-50, I only have 1 left now. :(
    Keep up the shows I am loving seeing all the hardware you test, particularly this one & the DIVide device, very interesting & will look that up. Glad you got Jetpac to work on DIVide, Take care, Paul.

    Is it bad that, as I binge all of these, I'm starting to sit through the intro and outro? Many thanks, you've allowed me to swim in Specci nostalgia for days! :)
