Hi Luke, thank you for this excellent review on our Gossamer II tent. Sorry for loss, our thoughts are with you and your family! All the best, the JACK WOLFSKIN social team
I can imagine waking up in the middle of the night with a tent full of grandaddy long-leg 🕷 spiders crawling on me. Those things aren't poisonous but are as creepy as can be.

You and Susi make great videos ..... it's fun to watch.
Had my 1-person version for many years now. I've used it in rain, sleet and snow and it's never leaked once. At one point I set it up in a very poor spot with a ground sheet that extended too far out the sides, I had an inch of water up the outside of the bathtub floor on all sides and water sloshing around beneath me. Zero leaks. I've had it up in the mountains in Sweden and Norway, I've taken it on numerous fishing trips, car camping and so on. It has the same zipper design and I have never had a single issue with bugs getting inside. So I'd chalk that up to the user simply not checking to make sure the zips almost kiss one another. It's a great tent and easy to recommend if you are OK with the weight and size.

Speaking of creatures in a tent, one night I backpacked into a campsite at Point Reyes National Seashore about 30 miles north of San Francisco. It rained cats and dogs all night with high winds also. In the morning there was a Pacific Tree Frog in my tent. You know it rained hard when even a frog seeks refuge from the storm
I along with a few others were camping without tents for a night, just stick and leaf lean-to shelters and maybe a tarp. Apparently a raccoon came through the campsite and most of them retreated to their tents aside from the few of us who slept through it.
I love my original gossamer. Thank you for pointing out its one small flaw, I will cut the zip protector flap to make sure I am getting the zippers to 100% meet. Easy fix. The hydrostatic head on this is high. Anything below a 3 is to me heading for trouble in real time. I modify all my tents to make them much better, but if I paid for the mods instead it would make the tents far more expensive. One super huge mod is to leave in your fave camping site a perfectly cut thick pile carpet piece in a black plastic bag. It transforms a tent into a cabin.
I have owned two Jack Wolfskin Yellowstone tents for several years. The quality, waterproofing, ventilation, and durability are the best tents I have ever known. The affordable price makes it much sweeter. My tents have been used in heat and cold - no problems. Can't recommend them enough.
I used to have an older Nemo Galaxi 2p and it had the same issue. Ngl I just used a little tiny toilet paper plug in each one. Not elegant, but it worked!
Sorry for your loss Luke, I'm glad I all ready have the tent, but I haven't been out in the rain with it yet, I'm so glad it passed your test night, another great video and review, thanks Luke.
I was at a thriftstore and saw a bag that looked like, maybe a hammick or so? The seller said: oh, it's some kind of sail.... I asked: How much? She answered: oh, 3 euro will do....Went home, unpacked, it is a brand new! Gossamer 1. Not a single spot on it, clearly never been set up, or maybe just in a livingroom. Googled it, the tent costs 200 euro in Holland right now! So I'm very exited and can't wait til I can try out!
My Vango Cairngorm tent has the same zipper design with the piece of fabric covering the corner, never had issues with bugs if you take a moment to make sure they are properly closed (which I always do cause I HATE spiders!). The issue you mention in your full review of the door tie-off loops obstructing the zipper seems pretty minor, I feel like I'd live with it. I reckon this could be my new tent! The Welsh hills see their fair share of rain!! Looks like the perfect blend of the Ionosphere (which is comically small for my *ahem* larger frame) and the 2P size of my Vango, without the setup faff. Perfect! Thanks for your diligence as ever Luke!
As per your first day video of this tent I told a younger friend of mine and he is a scout master of a boy scout here in my town he got all the parents to come to gether and they bought 15 of these tents and have used them in the rain and in the desert heat and they all just love them. Being a cub, boy, and explorer scout when I was younger they seem to like what I tell them about. That's so much for what you do it helps so much. In Joy
I stayed in the one person gossamer for a solid 4 months whilst backpacking and hitchhiking around New Zealand. It did me proud through both storms and incredibly hot weather. People thought I was a bit mad for staying in something so small for so long. But it was just somewhere to sleep and store my backpack. Kept the horrid sandflies out!
Love the way you test it. I worked with a guy who would buy land and would wait only till after a heavy downpour to go look at land. Friends would ask him why and he simply said you don't know the lands characteristics until you see it when it is wet. Mother in law got a house at a really good price once and I never saw it until after she purchased it without asking advice. I know why they sold it cheap after I did finally see it. It was at the bottom of a hill and after a heavier rain water would go right into the house. I was there when she discovered it and spent the whole time out in the rain trying to divert the water flow to keep it out of the house with a shovel. So yeah, it pays to check it out under bad conditions before getting it.
I always find if you dont pitch your tent properly & keep it tort then it will leak also i never ever buy a tent with less then 4000mm rating on the fly. I have a jackwolfskin gossamer 1 as i do alot of low profile stealth camping not tried it yet but before that i used a carinthia dutch army bivy but i sold it as the hoop was too low but it served me well for over 10 years low profile camping.
Hey Luke, sorry for your loss, my condolence to you and your family. and thank you for all the gear reviews, stay safe an healthy, God bless you and your Family always..
Glad to see you again. So very sorry for the death in your family. You mentioned in a previous video you had been notified of a person in your family with cancer and time was short. Since we haven't seen you doing much overnight camping, I wondered if there hadn't been family issues that kept you away from your love of camping and videoing. Family and God first. I am very sorry for you and your family. Take your time to heal and grieve - we are here waiting for you. - I want to comment that the photography is just perfect. I love your close ups; the rain on the leaves, water rolling on the tent - fantastic. The green of the area is just so beautiful. The tent looks like it will get highest ratings - who could want for more with all that rain!!
My main gripe is with the design of the entry/vestibule area. If you were to attempt to get in that tent during a rainstorm (especially that one), I see zero chance of it remaining dry during entry. Once the vestibule is unzipped, the internal mesh becomes fully exposed. Tents with vertical walls mitigate this by having just that, vertical walls.

Oh my sorry for your loss . Looks a great tent , but I wouldn’t find it very liveable. I had a vango Banshee , great in wind and rain too . A similar shape . I took that on an extended cycle trip and I hated it after a week lol . After 6 weeks oh my total claustrophobia.I much prefer freestanding tents with good head height and space . I think these tents are probably designed for very short trips , but there are lighter freestanding tents that do just as well in wind and rain . I must be missing the attraction to this shape of tent . Good performance for the bucks . Thank you for reactions 🙏💚Xx
Sorry for your loss. Great to hear about the tent. I have thought about this tent, but I purchased the Naturehike Mongar 2 instead. Being a big guy i really wanted the head room.
This thing is absolutely bulletproof without weighing an absurd amount. I mean it is not light weight by any means, but defenitely manageable. But for the bit of extra bulk you get absolute peace of mind that you will ahve a dry and comfortable night!
Luke you should work with a company to try produce your own tent. Take the practices and methods you know that make a good tent and try to make a good cost effective tent that you can actually confidently push to your viewers. I think that’d be pretty interesting. You could even go and make a series on you reviewing different models of your own tent and giving feedback and deciding what the weaknesses are and how you’ll fix them :)
My first backpack was a Jack Wolfskin Denali 65. At over 6lbs it's pretty heavy but the build quality and robustness is on another level. Great product. Not much info on Jack Wolfskin here in the USA but glad I got the pack, still have it too 👍
Great review. I have this tent for a couple years now. Originally got it for a hike through Slovenia in variable weather and it held out well. One trick I found is to leave the outer tent attached to the inner tent when folding, so the inside doesn't get wet when you have to set it up again during rain. I did have problems with condensation though. Two people in humid weather that cools off during the night and the inside was just covered in droplets. Most of it flew down to the sides but some of it did drip into the inner tent. Usually not a problem when I'm on my own but still I think condensation is its main issue. Opening the outer tent flaps wasn't really an option as it was covering all our gear. Apart from that it's lightweight and compact, easy to set up, and a great value for its money (even at the price I got it for which is apparently twice what Luke paid!). Never had problems with spiders.
I will take my chilbo snow camo 2 different styled vestibules, waterproof and plenty of room. The only thing that failed was skinny stakes during hail / wind storm. Have used it for 6+ years. …and yes…I have treated it, reinforced seams and been just peachy! Great vid yo! 💯🇺🇸
Had the same problem with my tents over the years. Just put a tissue or hanky in the corner and zip up to it. (I HATE spiders square dancing on my face at nite!!) Looks pretty good for the price! Blessings, Jerry
Condolences to your family on the loss. I want to see you get into and out of that tent DURING a rainstorm...without flooding the bathtub floor that sticks out so far.
I have spent a lot of time in tents, and my experience has shown that you really don't get a feel for a tent properly unless your in the tent when its raining. With condensation and osmoses from touching the fabric when its saturated is a important point when wanting to be dry. This can be combated by having duel levels of protection. Just my 2 cents on the subject..
I'm really impressed with the waterproofness and the low amount of condensation. I would just spray bug repellent around the zipper areas to keep the spiders and bugs out. Sorry for the loss of your family member, but thanks for the video, great job.
lol was playing some games and got stuck in que for about 10 min and find this channel and i must say: it's not every day that you find a channel that makes a tent reviwe with such a mic the mic was awsome
I use the gossamer 1 here in Scotland 🏴 and it gets tested well and has never failed 😃 so I’m guessing it’s a bigger version of an already awesome 1 man tent 🏕 great review 👏🏻 atb 🏴🏕🏔
I have a 30 year old Jack Wolfskin Rock and Roll 2 four season tent which has never leaked to this day with heavy use. I guess they still make quality stuff.
Dude, I'm sorry to hear about one of your family members passing. I hope you guys are all doing well & you are taking the time to process, remember & celebrate their life. Personally, I am more of a cabin tent guy. But, my daughter & I are going on our first camping trip together soon and I figured a smaller tent would help her feel more at size. So, I just ordered the Coleman 4 person Sundome Tent on prime day. Gotta say, pretty well worth the price dude.
The same method used to make short drinking straw banks for spices and salt and pepper and Vaseline etc you could use a QTip dipped in mint oil of your choice.. Swab the area where the zipper pulls meet when closed and that should deter or kill ticks or spiders at that particular entrance point.
Good or bad I think a tarp is always good insurance. If you have the ability to put tarp up you can use for dry area for cooking and eating. Secondary benefit is your tent gets less uv and less beating from. The rain or hail. Anyways, good to see one meet the reasonable expectations as sold.
Looks like an awesome tent! Great review, as always Luke. Also, my condolences on your family loss. I presume it was your uncle you'd mentioned in a previous video. Regardless of whom you lost, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts. Take Care.
Great review! The only other test of a tent in my book is how it handles wind. I've been in my VE-25 twice when it has been wind flattened! It's not always possible to guy a tent off. My Trango-2 was subjected to gusts over 100 mph on 395 in the Sierra. Had to tie it to my truck just to set it up! Very stable and waterproof but a bear to set up!
Not available on Amazon. When I have a problem with bugs at a spot where I either can't stop them from coming in or know a spot could fail, I spray a little deet or bug repellent around the area for a short time fix. It may not kill them but it certainly makes them leave and look for a different way in.
6:17 Condolences to you and your Family Luke.

Nice to see you as well Luke! I hope Susie is well ♡
Sorry for your loss Luke.
Be safe and well. 💗
Sorry for your loss
so much appreciated with your testing efforts Luke, you’re da best
Jesus loves you all very very much repent and believe and be saved from eternal punishment of sin amen, Jesus suffered for you
Luke you should work with a company to try produce your own tent.
Looks like a great stealth camping tent. Glad to see it got the Wolf Pack stamp of approval.
My first backpack was a Jack Wolfskin Denali 65. At over 6lbs it's pretty heavy but the build quality and robustness is on another level. Great product. Not much info on Jack Wolfskin here in the USA but glad I got the pack, still have it too 👍
Great video!! Praying for you and your family for your loss.
Thank you, your video helped me deciding for the gossamer I.
Had a tent with the same bug problem some yrs ago i put some rtv silicone where they met and that fixed it
Nice tent. My thoughts and prayers to you family Luke.
Had the same problem with my tents over the years. Just put a tissue or hanky in the corner and zip up to it. (I HATE spiders square dancing on my face at nite!!) Looks pretty good for the price! Blessings, Jerry
Impressive ..Condolence to you n family Luke can relate.. Nice tent n priced right..
Condolences to your family on the loss.
I want to see you get into and out of that tent DURING a rainstorm...without flooding the bathtub floor that sticks out so far.
Sorry for your loss, thank you for keeping on.
48 hours of rain and not a single drop inside. Highly highly impressed
5 days of rain
lol was playing some games and got stuck in que for about 10 min and find this channel and i must say: it's not every day that you find a channel that makes a tent reviwe with such a mic the mic was awsome
Our most memorable times in a tent were during the worst weather!
I use the gossamer 1 here in Scotland 🏴 and it gets tested well and has never failed 😃 so I’m guessing it’s a bigger version of an already awesome 1 man tent 🏕 great review 👏🏻 atb 🏴🏕🏔
Thanks for saying something from across the "Pond".
@@azclaimjumper well here in Scotland 🏴 it’s common to get all 4 seasons in one day 🙈🤣🤣🤣
Sorry to hear about the loss in your Family Luke.
Sorry for your loss. Excelent review as always. S&H
I have a 30 year old Jack Wolfskin Rock and Roll 2 four season tent which has never leaked to this day with heavy use. I guess they still make quality stuff.
This video makes me want more rain. But I'm in Colorado. We always need more rain...
Love the videos!! Sorry for your loss.
My condolences to you and your family. Keep up the good reviews and soldier on my friend.
The same method used to make short drinking straw banks for spices and salt and pepper and Vaseline etc you could use a QTip dipped in mint oil of your choice.. Swab the area where the zipper pulls meet when closed and that should deter or kill ticks or spiders at that particular entrance point.
Where I live out west it hasn't rained like that in three years
Good or bad I think a tarp is always good insurance. If you have the ability to put tarp up you can use for dry area for cooking and eating. Secondary benefit is your tent gets less uv and less beating from. The rain or hail. Anyways, good to see one meet the reasonable expectations as sold.
Sorry for you loss Luke and family.
man i love the sound of rain on a tent
