- Enjoy the view normally reserved for the footplate crew as we pass through the pretty Hampshire countryside with BR “Standard class 4” 2-6-0 - No.76017 at the head of an Alton bound service train. The crew kindly allowed me to attach a small camera to one of the hand rails of the locomotive tender enabling viewers to experience a forward view of the entire route from Alresford to Alton, including running around the train at Alton ready to form the return service. To complete the railway’s “Driver’s Eye” experience we join a narrow gauge train for a run along the
10 ¼ inch gauge Ropley Miniature Railway.

Once I got used to the idea that I wasn't about to be twacked in the head with a hedge or the occasional bridge it made for a very pleasant ride. Good job!
Thank you, the camera does sometimes give the impression that things are closer than they really are.
I left Medstead to live in New Zealand nearly 60 years ago. There's still some lovely scenery. Many thanks for a very enjoyable ride.
Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride, New Zealand is a beautiful country, but you never forget your homeland.
great view, love the bridge right at the beginning! 👍👍
Thank you, the brickwork on the bridge is both attractive and in good condition when you consider it's well over 100 years old 😊
Witaj Tim! Wróciłam taka zmęczona, wyczerpana. A tu czeka na mnie nowa, urocza przejażdżka pociągiem. Herbatka, kanapki i jadę, ODPOCZYWAM.
Tim 😊
Hello, a fresh cup of tea and a marmalade sandwich is a great pick me up after a tiring day, I think I'll make a cup of tea right now. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. Cheers. Tim 😊
Great video, Tim! Thank you for letting me tag-a-long!! Thank you also, for sharing!! 😊🚄❤
Thank you, its always nice to know you enjoy following my travels.
Tim, Love the locos on the Watercress Line - the ride on the Ropley Miniature Railway was an extremely treat. Ted
Hi Ted, I always love visiting the Watercress line, its one of the only lines where a large locomotive in action is guaranteed, they are needed to cope with the steep gradients along the line and the miniature railway adds an extra attraction between the standard gauge trains. Cheers. Tim.
used to live in Alton and still miss the watercress line i must get down that way again great vid
Hi, if you get a chance to visit the line, I think you'll appreciate all the effort the volunteers and staff put in to keeps the stations and locomotives in tip top condition, the railway is a credit to everyone involved in presenting the railway we see today. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Hi Tim! Camera over the left buffer and off you go. Beautiful shots from the track. The special track of the mini narrow-gauge railway is definitely very interesting for children. In England everything is always kept alive with a lot of work. And that is nice. Thanks for the heart for the last time, Tim. I meant it, too, take it easy, you should work towards retirement. Believe me, that's a nice thing too. Best regards from Hans from the Mühlviertel. 🇦🇹 And the reward for the good film. 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Hello Hans, it was nice to be able to mount the camera on the outside of the locomotive, no problems with the glass windshield. The miniature railway is to be expanded next year with a loop making the line twice as long as it is now. We English are good at keeping the past alive, not so sure about looking to the future. I am working on a couple of videos I shot at the Goodwood Revival vintage car racing, the first should be up in a couple of days. This weekend I will be returning to the Watercress Line (Mid Hants Railway) for the Autumn steam gala. I can't retire just yet, I'm designing two plastic injection mould tools, making them should keep me busy into next year.
Nice one II must say. I did a cab ride, round trip some years ago. cost £60. really enjoyed it
Hello Keith, this railway gets better every-time I visit, I'd happily pay £60 for a cab ride, it must have been a very special experience. I've ridden in the brake van over the full length of the line, that was fun.
Excellent quality, hardly any vibration on the camera. Useful for route learning this, giving a good view of all the signals
Hello Andrei, this was filmed with a GoPro 8 camera, a vast improvement on the cameras I was using 4 or 5 years ago. I'm pleased you enjoyed the resulting video.
Loved my journey. Sadly cannot do it in the flesh.
Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride and I'm sorry to hear that you can't do it for real.
Thanks for the cab ride Tim totally enjoyed big and small. Sure is beautiful countryside to be travelling through!!😎🚂🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧
Hello Christopher, I'm glad you enjoyed the rides, I'm out and about filming this week in the West Country, both mainline and heritage railways, along with a bit of sight seeing. I look forward to sharing some of the places I visited over the coming weeks.
@@Timsvideochannel1 thanks Tim will look forward to seeing some more interesting videos!!😎🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧
fantastische reis !!! bedank voor mij mee te nemen , ik heb 40: 30: er van genoten ; nog vele groeten , JULIEN
Bedankt, ik ben blij dat je van de video hebt genoten.
Thanks for your videos, they're amazing! I love trains
Thank you, that's nice to know, trains have been a big part of my life since I was a small child 😊.
Thanks again. Lovely trip and neat stations too. Even the miniature has adapted for covid! We enjoyed a look at the restored Lochearnhead station yesterday as we headed to hike a of National Cycle Route 7 to Killin. No track of course but nice to walk along the platform and have a look at the old mid 20th century advert posters. Those were the days! Atb, Terry
www.lochearnhead.org.uk/ "Yes" it's a beautifully restored station, I wish I was there (Lochearnhead). The Watercress Line is a real credit to the volunteers and staff who keep it looking so good. I was there again yesterday recording the "Autumn Steam Gala", the weather was atrocious, but the warm welcome more than made up for it.
@@Timsvideochannel1 Thanks. Credit is due to Hertfordshire scouts who bought and restored it. You have to admire these enthusiasts who help keep all these sorts of places (and engines!) in good order for the rest of us to enjoy. Atb…Terry
@@TerryMcGearyScotland Hello Terry, the efforts of those scouts and volunteers all over the UK make this a much better place to live, we owe them a massive debt of gratitude 😊😊😊😊
beautiful train movie!
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
Enjoyed the journey very much; lovely scenery! 🤗👍🏻🥰 Impressive loco, Harry Potter style. 🚂 The Ropley Miniature train ride was a captivating addition. 👍🏻😍 Thank you! 💖
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride, the miniature railway is a welcome addition, especially for the young ones.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I am still a young one, at heart that is, even though I am an early 80's child in the body. 😊
The dreary middle ages beckon now. 😲😁
@@OmniaInNumerisSitaSunt Being young at heart is what really matters, I'm only a year away from being old enough to retire and I'm going to make the most of the years I have left whilst I'm still fit and well enough to get about and shoot these videos 😊 Eighty odd years young sounds so much better than eighty odd years old 😃
@@Timsvideochannel1 Bless you! That's the spirit. 🙏🏻 I hope I will be this optimistic and able-bodied as you in your age. I am already feeling aches and pains here and there and I am not even 40 yet. But we push on and persevere until the end. 👍🏻
Nice talking to you! And please continue creating videos. I love them. 😊💖
@@OmniaInNumerisSitaSunt "Yes" it was good talking, I'll keep creating videos for as long as I'm able. I'm not ready to grow old, in my mind I'm still young. Take care. Tim 😊😊
Very nice video!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful
Cheers, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride.
Ah, getting back to your regular type of videos again' Tim! Driver's-Eye videos are always entertaining! But at 34:16 we see what happens when you leave engines and carriages in the wash for too long....... They *shrink!* LOL
Hello Neil, I looking forward to visiting Germany in January 2022, hopefully I'll be able secure some good "Driver's Eye" videos on that tour. Here in the UK it's almost impossible to feature "Driver's Eye" videos of the main-line network, but the heritage railways are far more helpful, they know that YT videos help to advertise their railways, hopefully bringing in a few more people. I thought you'd like the little train 😊
@@Timsvideochannel1 Ich erwarte gerne die Deutschen Bahnfaehrt videos! Now in English, I look forward to the German train ride videos! Cheers, Tim! And yes, I did like that Ropley Miniature Railway.
@@neilforbes416 Now your showing off, I only know about half a dozen German words in including people's car or was that Volkswagon.
@@Timsvideochannel1 LOL! I spent some time back in the late 1980s and early 1990s learning the language!
@@neilforbes416 Did you ever get the chance to use the German you learned?
Really enjoyed this Tim! Especially the Alton run around 🙂
Hello Anthony, I've been following your trips to the Epping Ongar Railway and the Didcot Railway Centre, I wish I could have been there, they looked like good events. I'm looking forward to the Gala at the Mid Hants this weekend, although it looks like a good rain coat will be required. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, it was kind of the crew to allow me to attach a camera to their loco 😊
@@Timsvideochannel1 Thanks Tim! The crew were really nice to allow you to do that! They were both good fun! I’m looking forward to it too though the weather doesn’t look like it will be kind to us this weekend haha. If you are looking to visit Epping Ongar they have another gala - London Transport themed in just over a weeks time and Didcot has their autumn gala at the end of October 🙂
@@AnthonyFurnival Thanks for the information, I can't make the Epping Ongar Gala because I'll be at the Bluebell Railway's "Giants of Steam" event, but the Didcot Railway Centre Gala is a possibility.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I’m doing giants of steam one of the days - not decide which yet - haven’t decided on EOR yet - still need to work out the logistics for next weekend.
@@AnthonyFurnival I queued for petrol just to make sure I could get to the Mid Hants and the Giants of Steam events 😃
Nice one.
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
Good video
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
Watercress Line LVE LOUIS SHIRLEY
I noticed the "token" being exchanged and I wondered if they always have to wait for the token to be returned by a train travelling in the opposite direction before sending another train in the same direction as the first? I'd assume that's how it has to be done, but that would mean that it's impossible to send a second train in the same direction and over the same track as the first train even after that stretch of track is clear. You'd need modern electronic signalling if you wanted to allow that, I guess.
The token machine holds more than one token, perhaps as many as ten, once a section has been cleared and confirmed by the next signal box another train can follow so long as no other token for the section has been issued. This can be repeated until all the tokens have gone after which someone has to be sent, often by car to get some of them back, in practice this situation is a very rare occurrence.
Was the mid hants line double track on the approach to Alton it looks as the bridges built for double track you can see a long length of double track
Hi, you are correct, the original line at this point was double track.
Very good
Cheers 😊
Hi tim,I wish we had restored railways as good as yours in oz,As always great pictures thanks mate, Hope you get to come down under real soon to visit your family across the ditch, If you get to stop over be aware that a lot of wild life here can kill you including drop bears cheer' bob.ps freedom day in nsw is now 11 oct "HALLELUJAH".
Hello Robert, the Puffing Billy Railway is one of the best I've seen, it is every bit as good as those we have here in the UK, I'd like see to more of Australia's heritage railways on my next visit, I'll be careful to watch out for the wild-life. I don't know when I'll be able to see my son and his family, at least through the wonders of modern technology, I know he is safe and sound. Enjoy your freedom when you finally get it. All the best. Tim.
@@Timsvideochannel1 Thanks mate,Things soon will be not so crook in tallarook cheer's bob.
@@robertcoleman4861 I bet the day can't come soon enough. Stay safe. Tim.
Why the long run back at Alton?
The locomotive ran round its train ready for the return trip, the driver has to clear the section before it can enter the station again to couple up to the carriages ready to return to Alresford.
flippen eckythump. if i were on the crew, I wouldn't take up that reservation. no one would want to be tied to the buffer beam lol.
It takes a real man to drive a train from a position on the buffer beam 🤣
Got some bad vibrations on this ere loco
The big one featured, or the miniature one at the end?
a lot of background noise... annoying!
it's so humiliating to see people were bullied into wearing nonsense masks back then... we will never forget.
