GLOCK 19 Gen 3 9MM Semi-Automatic Pistol Tabletop Review - Episode

  • GLOCK 19 Gen 3, Gen 4 and Gen 5 are the current 3 generations of this famous 9MM semi-automatic pistol readily available today. This review includes a description of the differences between these three generations and overall pros and cons. In the world of so many options for well-made handguns, there’s probably none more popular than the GLOCK 19, known world-wide for its outstanding reliability with a reputation of being able to withstand extreme brutal conditions. Known as the ultimate workhorse firearm, the GLOCK 19 is also an accurate, comfortable, easy to maintain firearm available at a reasonable price and probably more supported out there in terms of after-market options than any other handgun in the world. Includes a demonstration of disassembly and reassembly.

Good review. I bought my first and only Glock, a G21 Gen 3, in the early 2000's. Much like you I have looked at the G19 for the last 15 years but always found a better option. I have been watching them on GunBroker and recently put in a low "high bid" on one. Apparently, everyone else was asleep at the wheel and I won the auction for a nearly new Gen 3 with box, docs and two 15 round mags for 3 fifty. Picking it up Friday.

I enjoy the brief history portion of your review. I can’t stop wondering how sturdy those Glock curtain rods must have been. If you ever get your hands on one please do a tabletop review. 😄. Excellent video! Just to clarify a few things…
About the Gen4…. I’m not aware of “more ambidextrous features.” Both Gen 3 and Gen 4 have the slide stop on the left side of the pistol only, with neither one having the option to put the slide stop on the right side of the gun. Also, both Gen 3 and 4 have a magazine release that can be swapped to either right or left side of the pistol grip. So, theres no “more” ambi features on a Gen 4 over a Gen 3. Gen 5’s on the other hand are truly ambidextrous. They have a dual slide lock on both sides and the mag release can also be switched to either side, just like a Gen 3 and 4.
As far as a Gen 4 being “smoother” than a gen3, is subjective. I can’t tell the difference and I own every single Glock model in every generation in 9mm, that has been sold in the USA. I collect Glocks like baseball cards. The Gen3’s in ALL calibers has a much simpler recoil SINGLE-spring/guide rod design, where the operator can easily switch springs to tailor made loadings of his/her choice. The option to swap out the DUAL recoil springs for gen 4’s and 5’s can be accomplished as well, however the force of the dual recoil springs is extremely limited in spring “power” (lbs.) options, unlike Gen3’s. In other words, there’s more options to customize recoil spring force with a Gen3, than Gen 4’s and 5 models. That’s a huge factor for many Glock “purists” (owners) who reload their own hot or less-hot custom loadings.
Finger groves: Gens 1 and 2 did NOT have finger groves. Those were introduced with Gen 3 and continued with Gen 4. Gen 5 models went back to the No finger grooves of Gen 1 and 2.
I agree that when one swaps out “imposter parts” for factory original parts in any Glock, they no longer own a genuine Glock. They now own a hybrid. I love all internal FACTORY Glock parts, except the sights. I install Trijicon. I swapped out a few of my 10mm barrels with KKM, but only for hunting with lead hardcast loads, as Glock Inc highly discourages shooting lead bullets out of their barrels due to unique rifling. Other than that, nothing internally of a Glock requires an “imposter part.” Just my opinion.
Finally, there is a cult like following for the Gen 3 Glocks. Many people prefer the Gen three for a few reasons…
1). ease of swapping out and abundant availability different “powered” recoil springs and the captive guide rod options.
2). A two-pin trigger assembly, vs the single pin of the Gen 4 and 5 (some feel two pins are better than one, but in reality, it makes no difference).
3). The grip texture of a gen3 vs the gen4 and gen5 models are a huge difference.
Personally, I love all model Glocks with the Gen 2, 3 and 5 being my favorites.

Great review! I have a Glock 45, which is the 17 frame with the 19 slide, and it came with the standard sites. Had to replace the front sight which had been damaged in transit from the dealer. Other than that, don't have any problem with the standard site picture. What is your experience with the standard sites when firing your Son's piece? Many fans immediately replace the sights.

Our serials are pretty close so I'm wondering if potentially they were same batch, I know that's a silly question but I can't find solid info on anything to do with serials on Glocks. I would love to know if you have any knowledge on it or if your son happens to remember when he got his new I could probably get an idea of when mine was originally produced too!

Great vid and informative. I know I'm late to this party by a year, but thought I would put in my two cents worth. Just like you, I always found something else that appealed to me more than a Glock. In 1998 I was on a tactical team and we went from the Sig P220 to the Glock 22. I hated the Glock with a passion when compared to the Sig 220. I really didn't like the 40 s&w compared to the 45acp; I didn't like the feel of the Glock compared to the Sig; the sights were not my style; dislike the striker fired compared to hammer; I just didn't like the G22 at all. Luckily, I was on my way out anyway, so only had to train with the G22 for a year and never did appreciate that model at all. Fast forward, I'm in the market for another 9mm pistol about two months ago and I found a good deal on a new G19 Gen 3. Now remember, I have other 9mm's, 45's, and 40's that are cheapo's and some greats: Beretta M9, a Taurus G3, a S&W 457, S&W M&P 40c, FNP 40, Hi Point 9 and a 40 for tackle box guns, RIA 1911, etc... and even an old Norinco M213 9mm that I bought back in 1990 for a hundred bucks that I prefer to the G22. Anyway, I decided to give the G19 a chance. I am starting to like it. Would I recommend it over all of my others? Absolutely not. But, I will say that if a person who could only own one gun asked me about the G19, I would recommend it for sure.

I prefer a Gen 3 for overall functionality, but with a grip reduction, so that the grip is like a Gen 2 or Gen 5 - with no finger grooves. However, for full sized Glocks, like the 27 or 22, I like the finger grooves on the Gen 3. My favorite Glock of all, is my G23.3, which, as with all .40 cal Glocks, will easily convert to a 9mm or 357 Sig with a simple barrel swap. For the 9mm conversion, you do have to use 9mm Mags, but for 357 Sig, the 40 cal magazine works perfectly. I'm still amazed at how many ppl don't know about the ease of conversion of ALL 40 caliber Glocks. The title to this video is completely wrong. The true "workhorse" of the Glocks, are the 40 cal models, since they can quickly be converted and modified to fit damn near anyone's needs from a semi.

That rumor gets started every couple years. There's no legitimate plans for Gen 3 to be discontinued because Gen 4 and 5 pistols are not allowed to be sold in California to civilians. They don't want to give up that market. Gen 4s have been discontinued..... And at this point from what I see and know about the market.... They're one of the most sought after generations.

Most say that yes, the Glock 19 is built to handle +P ammunition, but it’s advisable to limit its use to occasional practice. Prolonged exposure to +P loads can accelerate wear and tear on the firearm. That being said, most people are more concerned about over-penetration when considering ammo for in-home defense. @@mickmacstabletopreviews8466 ok, so to be clear as I'm a newbie, the 9mm +P will under penetrate? I thought because it had extra velocity it would over penetrate? So then 9mm hollow point +P is safer for home defense than regular 9mm hollow point?

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Nope, the more power, the more potential for over-penetration. As you know, as the shooter, we are responsible for every round we fire. If it accidently penetrates beyond the target, if it penetrates an exterior wall... Personally, one of my "home defense" firearms is a Glock 17 in which I use standard Hornady Critical Defense rounds. But my primary "home defense" weapon is actually a 20 Guage Mossberg 590 Shockwave loaded with buckshot rounds. You can check these out on my TH-cam playlist for more information on why I chose them as well as the importance of lasers and tactical lights on home defense weapons.

I could be wrong but the reason why the FBI wanted a more rifled barrel rather than the traditional Glock barrel was for forensics so they can better match a fired bullet to an agent. Glocks don't imprint on bullets because of how the barrels are.

Been shooting my gen 3 19 since 2007 with only a sight change. My daughter now has it and I carry a gen 5 19 now. I just sort of figure if it ain’t broke why fix it. Glocks work for me so I have not tried any of the Glock clones (striker fired pistols) like I said if it ain’t broke……

Not much good comes from California especially concerning guns but California's Gun Roster grandfathered the Generation 3 Glock therefore Glock still makes Gen 3 for California. Thank God Generation 3 is still available to this day however Generation 4 9mm has been discontinued by Glock & Generation 5 is available in 9mm & 40 cal as of date.

The G19 would indeed be an excellent choice especially if it's for everyday carry . It's very popular. While the G17 is a bit larger (see th-cam.com/video/xw6mwH65KBY/w-d-xo.html), it would be worth a look as well if you're just looking for a good, well supported Glock. Best wishes.

I think I’d rather have the regular Glock 19 since a bit smaller than those 2.
I have yet to fire them and hopefully I’ll be able to fire them sooner than expected.

Great video for the information, but your control of the glock 19 was very poor. Fear of slide grab is understandable with glocks, I'm sure you could hold the glock more perpendicular with your eye then bending your elbows so much. For a 9mm you seemed to be getting a lot of recoil also.

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
