Tutorial - How To Make Tow Cables From Copper Wire

  • Hi, guys! I had some spare time while waiting for paint to dry, so I thought I could do a little tutorial on how to make your own tow cables for tanks and so on. This is the easiest way to do them and there are more complicated solutions, but I only had a M7 Priest cable handy.
    Everybody can do this as long as you've got the tools you need. The only advise I would give is to be careful with your hobby knives. Make sure you're working on a cutting mat to avoid slipping and sliding of the original tow cable while cutting off the eyes for further use.
    Maybe you want to give this a try. If you do I'd be interested in how it worked for you. Have fun!

    Now that was a simple but extremely realistic project that anyone can do no matter what their skill level is at! Great video my friend. Waiting on the next installment on the factory! Take care--Bob

      +bob ahnert Thank you so much, Bob! Yes, that was the purpose of this video to show how simple it can be to make your own "after market" parts at almost no cost at all. The wire I use was rather "expensive": 1.69 € for 10 metres. Could get it at around 20% of that price and it lasts for many, many cables, hehehe. Take care. Jens

    Great tutorial Jens, I'm always appreciative of people that take the time to show things like this. Added it to my tutorial playlist. These look great.

      +Armour Empire Thank you very much, Mark. I did do the tutorial, 'cause nobody seems to know that way to model them cables anymore, hehehe! :)

    Great tip on making cables, I made one before but your method seems to be better. Thank you for sharing.

      +TANK MODELLER Paul Inge Not at all, Paul! Would you share your method, too? Some fellow modeler from Germany has one using the lids of coke bottles and he'll do a tutorial as well. The more ways of doing this you have to choose from the better, init? :) Jens

    Nice work, Jens. The cable looks so neat and even. I think these tips will come in handy for all types of cables, not just tow cables :-) - Trevor

      Simon Jones That's cool, 'cause if you wanted to make your own tow cable for her, you'd have the exact same eyes to deal with. Only the Sherman cable isn't rolled up in most cases. :)

    I wouldnt use a drill to make the hole, I would heaten up a needle or the rooe itself!

    • @non-prolific135thscalemode7
      @non-prolific135thscalemode7  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you wouldn't. At least not if you want to keep the plastic part in its original shape. :D Believe me, a hand vise and small drill bits are worth the money you spend on them. :)

      @erlkonig6375 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Non-Prolific 1/35th Scale Model Builder I know that it would change the shape, but have a hand vise and I have to look if I have such small drill bits...
