sam doyle MJ is often identified as a high tenor, but Seth Riggs (his vocal coach of many years) was adamant that he had a fully developed lower register. He could sing down to baritone and had a very wide range. He talked about this in the Bad 25 docu.
Maybe he could hit some low notes of a bass's range, but he was much more comfortable in a tenor's range. The whole timbre and colour of his voice was at its best in higher registers, so although he may have hit a weak f2, he is still a high tenor as he sung best from b3 to c5
I watched it as well. You can really hear his lower register in songs like "money" and "Will you be there". The former he was hitting around E2 at lowest and the latter C3 at lowest. I've watched many "vocal range" compilations of him here and on other websites. To comment to Sam D. Based on what I've heard from him and what I've heard people say of him, I would approximate his range went from around E2 to around D6 at highest falsetto. In Earth song the last falsetto notes sound like C6-D6.

Some of your comments are hilarious and ridiculous. Michael had to warm up his voice to extend and strengthen his range prior to singing. This process keeps you from blowing our his vocal chords and developing nodules on them. This process keeps singers out of the hospital and helps them to jump in and sing powerfully afterward. Imagine a runner or a pitcher jumping into the game without warming up...they re setting themselves up for injury. The voice is the same way. I'm glad I got to hear this....I'm going to share this with my voice students. Michael was an excellent singer and using these vocal warm ups over the years kept him in the limelight!
Actually, alot of this isn't so much warming up as it is practicing, training, coaching This process, repeated often, would create muscle memory and correct techniques to, as you mention avoid injury and faults and strain from employing unsatisfactory technique.

10.27 Michael Jackson singing operatically. The heavens have poured down their sounds on my ears. I’ll be in a comma for the next century, if you’ll excuse me now.
He’s using operatic technique, and operas don’t necessarily have to be dark, nor does the sound need to have a dark quality to be operatic. If you’ve never seen a light hearted opera, I’d be glad to point you the direction of some
RiverBed Flower Michael's voice here is almost as white as a little boy. Opera voices are mature and far darker. I've seen some light hearted operas and the quality of the voice is the same than in the serious operas. What changes are the issues the opera talks about and the dialogs. Michael has never sounded nearly operatic. That is not a bad thing per se. It's just how it is.
I don’t know what you mean by white and dark now. It sounded like he was using operatic technique to me, but can you expand on what you mean by the color of his voice here? I’m genuinely interested, not trying to be a start ass
RiverBed Flower He is using nasal resonace but he is not using as much laryngeal resonance as an opera singer would. They sing with a lower larynx that creates more space on the throat and amplifies de lower overtones of the voice so it sound heavyer and darker (more mature). By white I mean it's very bright, without darkes, to the point it sounds childish. I'm not sure this is making sense to you.

Why do I find this relaxing and comforting? It's soothing and comforting and raw and everything. Michael Jackson, the legend. My he rest in peace. No one will ever steal his title of the Kinf Of Pop. That's his title, and no matter how hard Bieber trys... He will never gain that title, nor will anyone, ever.
wolflover968 I'm a big fan of Michael not a fan of bieber. But I can say, bieber can sing he was a street performer once he was very young. But you know the industry now really push artists to use autotune and lip sync a lot. So he lost the skill for lack of training
He lip syncs in all of his concerts. No point in splurging money over the concert of an artist who won't give you what you paid for. How is it even an artist when he isn't even performing the art. So yes, Bieber is nothing compared to Michael Jackson.. never was..never will be. (Coming from a person who was obsessed with Bieber for 7 years until he came to India and lip synced all throughout the "concert" lol)
Mahima Sharma true he doesn’t even dance like mj does nor does he have any disease or laryngitis and he’s still even young till the age of 30s Mj can sing all live tour or if he couldn’t he sings and as libs at the end he still gives big effort even with laryngitis that’s what I call a true and phenomenal performer.
The warm-up @9:47....it's neat to listen to how his vocal chords open up. He has such power in his singing ability, incredible vocal range. He is one of the most talented singers in the history of music. I don't just say that as a fan, I say it as someone who understands music theory. Mike was and will always be the man.
He had a low voice in real live or should I say in private he uses his high pitch voice only in public, but he had a deep voice, confirmed of the once close to him even Lisa says so
Here I am again, warming up with Michael before another show. I’ve been warming up With Michael before my shows with him here for years. Nothing sends me to the stage with powerful vocals better.
Call it “cute.” that’s fine. But I’m for real. Guess what I’m doing right right now? 3 last-minute bookings in the last 3 days, not expecting to be on my voice so much. But as long as this exercise exists, I am always good to go before my show. Old Main Ice House in Cibilo tonight.
As a metal singer. I've used this for years. People laugh at it.. Try it. Try to mimic Mike.. Now stfu and listen to a pro. Not a fan of his music. But he had serious talent. Thanks Mike.
This definitely proves he had perfect (absolute) pitch. Only a handful of singers/vocalists possess absolute pitch; others include: Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald and Brian Wilson
The90sAreTheBest everyone he's been in the studio with like Brad Sudberg, Brad Buxer, Michael Prince, Teddy Riley and others all said they never heard him hit a bad note.
Daniel Zago Furii Let me rephrase myself. When he was recording his vocals for his songs all the studio engineers and producers said he never hit a bad note. This is also in 94 around the time that his health took a significant nose dive which even included vocal rehab. His voice could not comfortably hit the notes as well as he use to like when he was 20 but then again he was a grown man who was nearing 40 who at this point and had been singing hard for 30 years. He might strain a bit on occasion in this but thats normal. Every one does in vocal warm ups, but he still doesnt hit bad notes either.
For those talking about range, he spans 3 octaves and 2 semitones here if I'm not mistaken: F#2 to G#5. (I don't count the lowest note because it's fry.) There are a few off-key notes and cracks of course, but still, "not bad" for a vocal warmup. Heh. As if he ever sang something badly.
@@gradybaby_kv I said "here". He's gone higher than that (although I don't think he's gone lower on record). But his total range was not 4 octaves, more like 3 and a half. His top note was a C#6, show me Jackson hitting a C#2 and I'll believe you.
@@bnicolette14 excuse me? Michael was not “old school”, his voice was his own unique creation. He wasn’t an impersonation of the singers of his childhood.

Como q 3 ??
7:56 😂😂😂Sounds so cute😂😂
wooaahh didnt know he could go that low
I'm actually preferring the low-singing, personally :)
He had a low voice in real live or should I say in private he uses his high pitch voice only in public, but he had a deep voice, confirmed of the once close to him even Lisa says so
He had a naturally deep voice
He just didn't like using it
Here I am again, warming up with Michael before another show. I’ve been warming up With Michael before my shows with him here for years. Nothing sends me to the stage with powerful vocals better.
That's so cute
Call it “cute.” that’s fine. But I’m for real. Guess what I’m doing right right now? 3 last-minute bookings in the last 3 days, not expecting to be on my voice so much. But as long as this exercise exists, I am always good to go before my show. Old Main Ice House in Cibilo tonight.
It's not that easy to become a king of pop people this👆🏻much strength it takes
As a metal singer. I've used this for years. People laugh at it.. Try it. Try to mimic Mike.. Now stfu and listen to a pro. Not a fan of his music. But he had serious talent. Thanks Mike.
Michael never cheats himself, he put the same effort and detail into every single scale. He’s a serious dude.
To think he usually practised like this for 2 hours before recording a song in the studio...! My king!
His "I'm ready!!" At 0:06 is just so adorable to handle😍
This definitely proves he had perfect (absolute) pitch. Only a handful of singers/vocalists possess absolute pitch; others include: Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald and Brian Wilson
The90sAreTheBest everyone he's been in the studio with like Brad Sudberg, Brad Buxer, Michael Prince, Teddy Riley and others all said they never heard him hit a bad note.
Hugh Egg That's truly amazing. Thanks for the info; I didn't know that!
Daniel Zago Furii You have no clue of what you are even talking about. Please dismiss yourself. SMH
Daniel Zago Furii Just stop talking, please.
I wish this was put on one of his albums as a song! LOL But I'm not kidding. It sounds like he's making a song
Or make a new album
Called "BrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRrreeee"
Listening to this while reading comments really has me in tears hahahaha too funny.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE .............
its so dang cute!
james kutty Joseph well played sir, well played indeed
Cray May thats what I'm doing as well
SAMEEEE, GOD BLESS THIS VIDEO.
maaan the end part was so vocally complicated..
Really helps I use to bed so bad at singing now I beat my friends when we have singing night
bless mr Michael
For those talking about range, he spans 3 octaves and 2 semitones here if I'm not mistaken: F#2 to G#5. (I don't count the lowest note because it's fry.)
There are a few off-key notes and cracks of course, but still, "not bad" for a vocal warmup.
Heh. As if he ever sang something badly.
Not bad? More like Amazing 😍
he's awesome ! I think I can pretty much pull off the same range. been working on his exercice for months !
He has 4 octaves not just 3 and that’s confirmed by his voice teacher and lots of other voice coaches as well
@@gradybaby_kv I said "here". He's gone higher than that (although I don't think he's gone lower on record).
But his total range was not 4 octaves, more like 3 and a half. His top note was a C#6, show me Jackson hitting a C#2 and I'll believe you.
Actually he had 4 octaves
Just lettin u know
from 9:47 is just..incredible
Antonio Oroian It's amazing. 😍😍
Essa sequência é boa
His deep range has me intrigued, he could have done some amazing old school soul numbers and shocked the world.
He did even as a child🥺🙌🏽👑💖✨✨✨
Old school? Michael was old school lol. He grew up doing those songs
@@bnicolette14 excuse me? Michael was not “old school”, his voice was his own unique creation. He wasn’t an impersonation of the singers of his childhood.
@@Inaworldofloveerm it was unique but he was inspired by James brown
Listen with headphones,and I promise you'll get goosebumps!His voice's amazing!
This is the best thing I've ever heard in my almost 8 years of TH-cam addiction to be 100% honest.... 💜 I keep giggling like a mad man. His deep voice is ecstasy!
+Leekee-Duh-Boo He and prince's deep voices make me happy.

Aww I can hear him giggle a little sometimes 😍😂
I really laughed so hard I don't why
It's because vocal warm-ups are the silliest sounding things, but they make you sound amazing!!! haha
so true
Golden Retriver I thought I'm the only one
It's because of the sponge Bob comment honestly 😂😂😂😂
Me too 😂💕
"I'm ready"

Its 2020 and I still enjoy listening to this ALBUM.wahaha.It has great songs like Brrrrrrrrrrr, Mamama mamaaaa, iiiiieeeeeeey, nonononono, aaaaaaah. Great, great songs.
He could sing amazing in lower octaves as well he sounds so different love this so much 😍
The origins of autotune started with Michael's example of naturalistic perfection.
Starting 6:31 I really laughed 😂 he sounds cute and just funny. I Love You MJ
L.O.V.E it !!!! His voice is so beautiful. He is such an angel.
12:20 Nonononooooooo...unless you wanna party

Love Michael's head and chest voice.
This is so satisfying holy crap 😩 His voice
And this ladies and gentlemen is why my expectations of today's artists are so high.... Yet I'm so disappointed.
His voice is absolutely fantastic! So beautiful.
0:06 That "I'm ready" 😭
Bashir: don't you think it's wrong for a 40 year old pop star to share his bed? Michael: 12:05
