    Doing notes about Polythematic texture | Unity in Opposition:
    - Again, we notice about adding or removing players in a phrase to shape it's dynamics.
    - In polythematic, if you take the foreground line, the supporting line still has some substance on it's own.
    - To reinforce separation is better to make contrast between the sounding lines; legato vs staccato, long vs shorts, ascend vs sustain, brass vs strings.
    - It's different from polyphonic because it has an emphasis on separation, whereas polyphonic works best in similar timbres and similar rhythms.

      intervals quality between lines is very significant for them separation/unition

    This is a favourite of the techniques so far, and the example sounded excellent

    1:19 So basically most of Adele's song like: Someone Like You, Rolling In The Deep, All I Ask, Hello, or A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton
    3:02 What makes this texture a bop in some cases

    Great video, again, Ryan. Do you have a video about writing chords for an orchestra? I can't seem to get wider chords, like 7th and 9th chords, minor 7ths and 11ths, and altered dominants to sound good. They always sound wrong or clashing. Do you have a video for that, or any advice?

    how conscious are you of the "moment to moment" consonance / dissonance relationships you are creating when writing your middle voices? or are you simply regarding your chord tones as consonances in a more abstract sense, & using relatively conventional passing / neighbour tone relations to those chord tones in forming your middle voice lines?
    (i had a similar thought watching your 'polyphonic texture' video last night, although when i reviewed your writing in the f minor bar 3, you did in fact spell out a chain of passing 7th chords in various inversions ...)
    i think the elephant in the room here is that although that accompaniment was chordal in nature, you only spelt out incomplete chords ... any thoughts in that regard?

    How can I become as fast at writing in Sibelius as you are? Any classes or courses you’d recommend?

      I switched to Dorico since this video. No classes, just learn the key commands and write a lot of music!

    Thanks! I really liked your orchestration on the theme in this flavor -some tweaking with more fluid lines in the bones could maybe be even better. I note that I find your take on this texture quite different from Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky is a little more mess, yours more organic countrapunctual. All in all McKay Polythematic and Polyphoic seems more like 2 flavors of countrapunct.

    Is polythematic texture may have other different texture like polyphony etc?

    • @RyanLeach
      @RyanLeach  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Polyphonic uses similar timbres and lines, while polythemstic is meant to be contrasting lines. So in polyphonic it might be all flowing legato lines in strings, but in poly thematic is could be legato in strings vs. short and bold in brass

  • @YoshTown
    @YoshTown 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So is it safe to assume that PolyThematic is Polyphonic except Polythematic has distinct timbres?

    • @RyanLeach
      @RyanLeach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The difference is that polyphonic is meant to sound like a single complex texture (unity) while polythematic emphasizes contrast

      @@RyanLeach Timbre aside, Is there any key things to know on emphasizing contrast via music?

    • @RyanLeach
      @RyanLeach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@YoshTown Everything can have contrast! quiet vs loud, legato vs staccato, long vs short, leaps vs steps, moving vs static, major vs minor, thin vs thick, high vs low, quarter note vs 16th, etc etc

    Can't put my finger on why (although it might be the Sibelius playback), but a lot of these arrangements are reminding me of music from the game Quest 64
