100% agree…. The idea behind it, which is almost always some version of making it a one score game, ignores the fact there are still a bunch of possessions left in the game. The smarter move IMO is to take the PAT unless the game situation demands you need to go for 2
It's specifically a 4th quarter strategy, when you're probably only going to get the ball 1-2 more times (barring recovering an onside kick) and you absolutely need a defensive stop to win anyway. The idea is you figure at some point you have to go for two, and the sooner you go for two, you can better gameplan how to manage the clock and use your timeouts. Another way of saying it is it's better to miss on your two-point attempt with nine minutes to go then to miss that two-point attempt with 15 seconds left.

The current over use of the 2 point conversion and going for it on fourth down is driving me nuts. I've seen so many teams not get points and lose games because of going for 2 and going for it on fourth down in field goal range. It's so stupid. Yeah, if you're down 28-26 after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter with less than 5 minutes left, yeah, go for 2 and maybe play for over time. If you don't get it, you might get the ball back and put yourself in position to get a game winning field goal. OTOH, if you're down 14-6 after scoring a touchdown with 12 minutes left in the second quarter, just kick the PAT. Maybe I'm just getting "old", I do turn 45 next week...
That's been his comedy shtick since... well forever. But yeah, there are times when I wish he'd focus and stay on point with one topic, might actually find his normal thinking somewhat rational and something to agree with instead of half these commenters taking his comedic bits as gospel.
Someone tell Billy Corgan that, having Stephen Hauschka as your kicker and Marshawn Lynch as your running back was a nailbiting choice. The hawks lost a huge game because of that. He makes a good point though.
If you're down 15 and don't get the 2 point on that first touchdown, then it won't do you any good to do it on the second TD because now you're down by 9.
But assuming you only have two possessions left, you have to go for two regardless. I think the only benefit of going for two on the second possession instead of the first is psychological, as in it's a huge deflator if you fail and you have like six minutes left of football left to play. On the flip side, it's a big boost if you do convert, and if you've got an aggressive coach, you can outright win the game in regulation if you score a TD and convert another 2-point conversion. The reason the analytics guy say go for two earlier (and this only applies to the 4th quarter) is because you can gameplan around the clock and your remaining timeouts and the two-minute warning a little easier. It's not a huge advantage, though. Whether you fail for two in the middle of the 4th or at the end, you probably have to attempt an onside kick anyway, which is always low percentage. But generally, the earlier you know you have to kick an onside kick, the better.
Seems like McDermott isn't going to be able to help them get to where they want to be. Both teams were going to score more. Tying up the game in the first half wouldn't be as critical as losing a point in the process. Especially if you feel you're playing the refs as well. I just don't know what head coach could be found that would be any better at this point.
The 2 point conversion is ruining football just like I knew it would. It should be banned, or only be able to use 1 time in a game. They need to move the extra point kicks back up. It's an extra point for a reason.
I'm not a fan of the 2-point conversion being so close to the goal line. You should make it in from the 5. And while I am at it, if you get intercepted or fumble (and recovered by the defense) on a 2-point attempt, your opponent should get a chance at a conversion one play after.
I despise the 2-point conversion to tie the game in the second quarter. Apparently, the stupid (and I mean (STUPID) analytics geeks disagree, which is why we saw not ONE, but TWO teams (Washington and Buffalo) do that this past weekend and fail both times. Imagine how that KC/Buffalo game plays out at the end if the Bills had even one more point on the board when the game was tied late. It's probably at least a little different.
It's ruined "gut" oriented sports appreciation. Analytics is just insight that cuts through the subjective bullshit of how to understand and target better outcomes and goals in sports.
@ No one's removing anything. Analytics offers objective data to identify strengths, weakness, and potential for contribution in whatever area towards a goal. Analytics can offer perspective on potential but it neither establishes or removes that potential, excepting only by presenting trends from past performance and illustrating degrees of progress or regress towards objective milestones.
I don’t get going for 2 or going for it on 4th down in the first half of a game. The whole modern game absolutely sucks. You can’t play defense, refs throw the flag liberally, the league plays favorites, and coaches lean too far into analytics. Not to mention annual rule changes that change the entire complexity and integrity of the sport. That’s why ppl think he game is rigged. Not to mention the sports betting sites that actually run the game. No thanks. Haven’t watched football for a few years now and now I’m into the college game. Not watching the Super Bowl either. This league is for normies/swifties not real football fans
i like that the 2 point conversion is there as an option but i don't believe in going for it very often. just like the bills going for 4th down on cheifs 40. pooch punt it on the 10 or kick it out of end zone. give the chiefs an 80 or 90 yard field to work, not 60 for a td or 40 for a field goal. bills beat bills, refs didn't.

My next vehicle is going to be an older, analogue vehicle. Just gonna find some solid mechanic that knows what he’s doing and that will be my ride.
Who is the Boston big 3 ? Pierce Garnett Ray Allen ? Or Bird Parrish McHale
Probably Pierce/Garnett/Allen. Not that those guys were better, but he was more likely to be living in LA when they played.
Well burr sometimes a team gets 2 field goals and a touchback which is 8 which means to tie the game the other team needs that 2 point conversion.🤷
Analytics has ruined sports
It's ruined "gut" oriented sports appreciation. Analytics is just insight that cuts through the subjective bullshit of how to understand and target better outcomes and goals in sports.
@@jkorshakyou can take out the emotional aspect of evaluating sports. But, you can't completely remove the "potential" talent someone has
@ No one's removing anything.
TFW you're a math nerd who has calculated your own probability trees that support going for two and Bill Burr calls you out.
He has a wife that tells him what to do. So the car driving him doesn’t seem like a stretch
McDermott cost the bills, more than the refs,
The only thing real about football is the half time show
I don’t get going for 2 or going for it on 4th down in the first half of a game.
Yeah Rich, people think thoughts. Next time don’t be so surprised about election results.
i like that the 2 point conversion is there as an option but i don't believe in going for it very often. just like the bills going for 4th down on cheifs 40. pooch punt it on the 10 or kick it out of end zone. give the chiefs an 80 or 90 yard field to work, not 60 for a td or 40 for a field goal. bills beat bills, refs didn't.
I heard of a high school football team that dominated by ALWAYS going for it on 4th down
Bill for President.
I stopped going to live games and concerts thirty years ago. Now you gotta worry about sitting in line outside the stadium and some crazy person will decide to drive into the crowd. Watching it on television is good enough for me. Pretty soon you'll have to pay for every game then I'm totally done with the NFL
Burr 2028
I remember when Bill Burr was funny. That was awesome.
EVERYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS!!
My favorite part was when California liberals had Bill Burr trying to explain how the fires were unpreventable, how everyone on the internet is stupid
Good god American sports are tedious and make no sense
All I hear from this guy is bitching and whining.
Luv ya guys
But numbers and odds of probability
MAKES SENSE
FACTS OVER FEELINGS
THIS GUY ISNT A FOOTBALL COACH WHY IS HE EVEN TALKING ABOUT THIS?
He's talking about it because he's 100% correct. It's been proven time and time again that by going for two points early in the game (and failing) comes back to bite you in the end!
@@kellykarcher7179 success rate is around 50% so if you just go for it again statistically it makes sense. But i was just joking this is what Bill Burr says if you question government officials or big pharma
@@nb7216 Oh, okay. I get what you're saying now. Thanks...
Bill Burr used to be funny.
Nerds ruined the world!
Bill also thinks the LA fires were handled well sooo….not sure I’m gonna put a lot of stock in what he likes and dislikes.
But he sure loves big inefficient government. Lost all respect for him.
Im not a fan of Bill.
Did his wife say it was ok to say these things.
I would think a true Fonzarelli like yourself would think flipping off the president is pretty based
go upstairs for dinner kid
@@mrgannon It would have been if she had a career of her own. Evidently, that wasn’t the case as all of the backlash went to Burr.
Too bad that Louie C.K. was perv, he’s a lot funnier and more talented than Bill Burr.
Aww poor alpha boy is upset
i love him but he's the oldest man about understanding how points work in sports. old heads love playing for ties and planning for failure.
America is not a fan of Bill Burr
The band who wrote “Horse With No Name?”
@@BUCKETJON His concert here in FL was sold TF out. Despite those crappy little phone bags they made us use
Magat begone
Near as i can tell South and Central America seem mostly ambivalent but Burr remains a popular actor/comedian here in North America.
Touchy bunch here
😆
