- As One Direction's group career comes to an end, Harry's health continues to spiral downward. After 2+ years of dealing with asthma, bronchitis, sickness, and voice issues, he is unable to finish strong - performances and interviews from late 2015.
Despite Harry's health, he continues to entertain millions across the world. Asthma is a very common condition and affects each person differently, and is typically very manageable.

Touring, recording and all their other commitments would have taken a toll on their health, but obviously worse for those who have health issues already. Being such a perfectionist, that would have been really hard on him

I hate the fact that nobody(including myself) even noticed or payed attention to his condition at that time and glad that your videos is clearing things up for people!
Having a chronic illness can be really tough. A lot of times the person might not even be too bothered, but sometimes they are. I love that Harry could keep doing what he loved despite having some difficult times with his health.
I know it's not the subject, but at that time, how beautiful he was! he had an almost unreal beauty and grace towards the end of the one direction era with his face and his long hair.
I’m not a fan of his long hair, but he did have a very unique look that only he could pull off.
yep! and during the last album, his voice really started to sound different. I was listening to that album again and I still can easily imagine harry nowadays singing it. sounds like the Sign of The Times harry
His voice did change. I agree that it started to settle and stay put around 2015.

He still is having problems and uses an inhaler onstage at times.He has some sort of bronchial inflammation and gets lung infections.
He got sick in Mexico City a couple of weeks ago and went to the hospital but he was back performing two nights later.A true professional.
Just so you know, the Mexico City incident was back in 2018. I put all the dates in the video descriptions, as well as at the beginning of the videos (title screen). He still does have issues, yes, but they do not seem as bad as they used to be.

he’s still kind of under managment so doesn’t have all the time in the world to take care of himself though.
It’s very painful to watch this. 🥺He’s so professional and obviously lives by the rule, “the show must go on”.
He’s got bad asthma and not the strongest immune system! The way he was treated by management in 1D didn’t help either. If you watch the behind the scenes video for “you & I” he was extremely sick but pushed through because he probably didn’t have any other choice…management didn’t give a crap about his well being or the other boys for that matter…it was heartbreaking seeing how rundown and ragged the boys would look at times during different videos and interviews..really upsetting.

Thank you for all your videos 😊 I didn't think he had so many problems with his health and I think a lot of people haven't seen anything too. But it's true that towards the end he regularly lost his voice and coughed almost all the time, especially compared to the other boys. I think "their break" allowed him to finally be able to rest and better organize his work with his health.
Glad you like them :) I also don't think many people knew how sick he was during the One Direction days. Granted, he had a lot of healthy spells, but he was sick so frequently. He seems to be doing much, much better now without the exhausting grind of those 5+ years.

I am sure if 1D hadn’t taken a hiatus when they did…Harry would have surely ended up dead…I hadn’t realised how sick he had been since 2014 almost constantly…seriously i think he was the most overworked and for some reason he wasn’t able to take care of himself atall…it must have been really frustrating u know…having to be ill all the time….also u know when ur chronically ill all the time people almost lose interest in how ur feeling and they just accept the fact that the said person is always ill and thats probably their state or normalcy…i mean now that i look back i don’t think i have seen him feeling a 100% ever since 2014…also ur right harry started to look so skinny here on and many people speculated that he was doing drugs and had an eating disorder as well…also this was when he had become very reserved within the group and he was almost resigned both physically and emotionally…and how much he was made to sing in spite of the fact that he was struggling so much is almost scary to me…shocking how he managed to keep everything concealed behind that smile for so long…ur videos are like an eye opener…at least for me it is…i always knew about the glamour bit of it but looking at how much the boys especially Harry had to suffer through their time physically…i am rather happy that 1D part ways for good…
Also i read somewhere that due to too much use of asthma medication the tone of the voice changes and it becomes hoarse…maybe thats what was going on during this time…he was constantly wheezy and always had that nagging dry cough…makes me so sad

Yeah, I don't think the other band members really thought too much of it after awhile because it was so chronic for Harry. You can tell though when he got bad, the other band members had to take a little more notice in him in the event they had to cover his singing or diffuse the awkwardness. Clearly it wasn't a good situation for the boys' health.
And yes, any inhaled medication can irritate the throat/vocal cords.
I remember hearing of one direction as a child from my older brother and ever since 2021 I have been obsessed with them and have been watching every possible video of them and I can’t believe they were forced to do so much stuff even while they were sick and especially Harry because they knew hazza had asthma but still used smoke machines and knew that niall and had mild asthma management really fucked them up

This remains my favourite performance of Infinity... the low harmonies he takes because of his voice, I still sing them to this day

@@MyMindMood It's not really about hearing better vocals, I've obviously heard him singing in better condition, it's more about the notes he chose to sing because he couldn't sing his traditional high notes. It created a very unique version of Infinity that was never repeated, and I really love it.

whenever i watch 1D video's, now, i often times am close to tears knowing what they had to go through. my heart hurts watching it. none of them ever deserved that kind of treatment!

I think the problem started when Zayn left the band. It's well known that Zayn was in charge of the high notes in every 1D song because of his amazing vocal range and technique, so when he left the membrer with the closer range of his was Harry, and even though Harry has a similar vocal range (impressive for his type of voice) he definitely has not a technique as good and healthy as Zayn's, so that ended up forcing his voice very badly and of course, damage. Even nowadays you can tell the aftermath , Harry's lost a lot of his range, he can't sing the final high notes of "Sign of the Times" anymore, and he signs a lot of Fine Line's songs in a lower tone so he doesn't have to force his voice anymore.
Very true - he does sing more in his comfortable range now. There's no doubt that Harry pushed his voice much too far, especially when Zayn left that last year.
No wait, actually Liam was the one who took all Zayn’s highest note, not Harry
The closest one to Zayn’s vocal range in the band was Liam. Liam can go lower and higher at the same time
Harry mostly sang parts like in SOML, Ready To Run etc… but the high notes were given to Liam
His voice got even deeper now
He needs to find the perfect vocal coach so he can stop struggling when it comes to full high notes and to have more breath control because he goes out of breath many times
@airynealavata3933 If you mean songs like "best song ever" or "you & i" then yes, you're right, but that's when it comes to head voice. If we talk about chest voice, Harry's the one who's taking them, indeed, you gave an excellent example with "ready to run". But if you check 1D's last album, almost all high notes belong to Harry, "infinity, drag me down, if i could fly, walking in the wind, etc".
@@FrancoMon7iel well yes even tho sometimes he has hard times to reach some notes since he doesn’t have a good breath control. He needs to improve that to be even better
For example, Liam is really good with his breath control. He knows when to stop, how to breath properly and never goes out of breath no matter how much he moves around and all notes are very clean.
Harry is good but needs to improve a lot of things still since his voice is getting deeper and deeper. He needs more vocal control

I think it would make sense looking at how physically and emotionally drained he was… creating something would be hard i am sure… i think in an interview he said that he remained at home for almost a year and allowed himself to get bored before he started to work on his new album… he also said that after he went home he was sick for a month straight… now we can see why
@@sammylj3644 we had been so happy to see them together for 5 years. But to keep performing and working to release new albums, Harry and other members had to sacrifice themselves to work hard. I always think about their reunion but somebody told me that would never happen, and now I understand why.
@@mihuynh98 even I have been all in favour of a reunion honestly but having seen the reality now and if this is the price that we must pay to see them back together …I would rather they be healthy and solo than be in the band and unhappy

@@sammylj3644 I read a lot of news but don't know they were believable or not. Can't understand why most of these news are so negative, feel like each member glorifying himself and criticized each other. I don't know if it's just because of their physical health problems that they decided to disband, or because of having problem between their relationship made it impossible to reunite.
@@mihuynh98 see i dont think Harry ever spoke ill about any of the other boys ever… the snl ringo thing was a joke and should be treated as one… i believe a stressful environment puts stress on relationships…
Maybe the reason for disbanding was something else idk… but looking especially at Harry and how ill he had been i dont think the band dynamics and pressures were something he would hv been able to handle in the long run… they either suffered physically like H did or mentally like Z did with his anxiety and eating disorder… whatever was a vulnerable thing for them literally just got precipitated i feel… the boys were never given the time of the day i dont think or the rest they needed… they were not cared for and thats scary to me
