This 12 3/4-inch-wide Sunburst Les Paul DeLuxe weighs 9.20 lbs. and has a nice, fat nut width of just over 1 11/16 inches and a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Three-piece (mahogany/maple/mahogany) sandwich body, carved maple top, three-piece (mahogany/maple/mahogany) sandwich neck, and rosewood fretboard with 22 original jumbo frets and inlaid pearl trapezoid position markers. Headstock with inlaid pearl "Gibson" logo and "Les Paul Model" decal. Two layer (black over white) bell shaped truss-rod cover with two screws and "Deluxe" engraved in white. Individual 'two-line' Gibson Deluxe tuners with double-ring Keystone plastic buttons with "D-169400 / patent No." stamped on the underside. Two metal-covered mini-humbucker pickups with cream plastic surrounds and outputs of 6.12k and 6.06k, each with a small black rectangular label lettered in gold "Patent No / 2,737,842". Four controls (two volume, two tone) plus three-way selector switch. Gold plastic bell-shaped knobs with metal tops. Tune-O-Matic bridge with retainer and separate stud tailpiece. The pots are dated "137 73 03" (CTS, January 1973). This guitar is in near mint (9.25) condition, with just two small areas of wear, one on the side of the treble horn and the other on the back of the neck behind the ninth fret. There is a miniscule amount of belt buckle scarring (nothing through the finish) on the back. Complete with the original twenty-four page hang tag booklet and the original hang tag warranty. Housed in its original Gibson black hardshell case with purple plush lining (9.25).
Hey Everyone... This Video is dedicated to Fretted Americana owner, David Brass's Mom who has recently passed away. We appreciate your kind thoughts and condolences.
I love this guy, he takes himself so not seriously. Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly!
A crazy genius of a musician, and we loves it..!
I saw a lot of guitarists but man, Phil X is the only one who really motivates me to pick it up my guitar and get better.
Minibuckers are like the best of both worlds. Less output and more responsiveness but no noise. Where as p90s are like the least of both worlds but their imperfection is what gives them character.
And to Phil, thanks for doing all these videos you love them and we love you. I can't imagine what it's like to lose someone that close to you but there are a lot of people that care about you, so don't forget that.
Love Phil X, such a talented guitarist singer song writer, love watching listening to him shred on all these vintage instruments, I watch several of his reviews a day, "it makes me happy" love watching talented people play these gems, the les pauls are a favorite and I wish I could buy them all, rock on Phil !!!
The Deluxe is the underrated gem of the vintage LP's. As early bursts climb to a half million dollars and other vintage LP's are dragged upward, the Deluxe will become the vintage LP to buy.
Hope so - just bought a 75 Deluxe Goldtop - feels great!
Just got myself a 78. It’s amazing!! The feel is so much better than anything modern.
So true! Norlin’s cop a bit of a bad rap but my 69/70 Deluxe is the most resonant guitar I ever played and I got it for the same price as a new Les Paul. Unbelievable guitars in my book!!
I agree! I had a 77 Les Paul Deluxe Gold top, the best playing and sounding guitar I ever had. I'm thinking of buying a new gold top with P-90s and changing them out to Minis
P90 50 gold top and this are the best to collect next to slash
Phil, You are by far one of the Greatest Guitarists of all time. You can do everybody out there
from my time. That's what hits home. You are a lot younger than I am BUT, you know my era's music like a Pro from the Past.
GREAT JOB and GREAT MUSICIAN !!!!! Keep on Playing my Brother in time.....
Still watch these videos, peak tone and vibe. You can really hear the true room tone so well in these old vids!
I've always wanted a 70's deluxe and in that same burst finish. Such a beauty
I have had my 79 deluxe from new and it has played decades of gigs, recently I have been thinking of getting a new Tele but, I pick up my deluxe and wonder what on earth was I thinking ! I love the mini humbuckers and have never even needed to take the truss rod cover off ! Thankyou Gibson for giving me such a reliable and great sounding guitar. 😁👍
Took my TRC cover off for the first time in 40 years recently. But I've changed climates radically twice in a few years. so that's probably the reason it finally needed adjustment. There was still factory sawdust in the cavity.
@@jimistheman9732 lol Jim ! Some valuable dust there Jim ! Well, I've had the hots for a Tele for many years but the thought of that 60 buzz continues to put me off, personally tho I think that there is only great sound on a Tele and that's the bridge pickup especially going thru a Marshall 50w valve amp but must run through a 4x12 tho, but that said, my deluxes have given me years of trouble free gigging, I used a strat for a few years before I bought the deluxes and the sound of the strat in many different venues was a nightmare ! When I bought the deluxes it took around 6 months to begin to play them in, but, I never looked back 👍 nice to hear from you Jim take care and never stop playing. 😁👍
wpw phil
that was fun!!
i had that guitar when i was 14. brilliant playing and singing AS ALWAYS
GOD BLESS MS. BRASS @men
I have a 1971 Les Paul Deluxe in a cherry sunburst! The neck is so slim, and the action is brill! My Dad bought it in london in 1972 the rare thing about it is tho there is a coil tap on it! Makes it sound like a tele which is rather cool!
That's an unorthodox version of Sweet Child o' Mine, but the guitar and its guitarist make up for any inadequacies by sheer awesomeness.
I can't tell who I was admiring more...him or the guitar...
recently discovered Phil X - what skills! Great tone, great technique, great voice, great fun!
We need to start a competition called "pick darts"
You have to do a 30 second riff, then throw your pick at a board 8 feet away.
DreamsCatcher101 dfdddddddddddddddddddddd
One of my absolute favorites of the Fretted Americana collection. The finish on this just blows my mind every time i watch this video!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh man, I miss these videos... Nostalgia for DAYS!
Got a 1976 Deluxe in wine red!A beast of a guitar!Greetings from Greece Phil!
Thanks for the demo; awesome. I am in awe of your musicianship. I have a 1978 Les Paul Deluxe, Tobacco Sunburst that sings when played, that I have had for 28 years. My wife surprised me with it as a Christmas present. Keep making the demos!
I'm not really into Les Pauls but those 70's deluxes are the beez kneez. I played a '76 once and it was amazing.
Damn, that was probably the most amazing version of Little Wing that Phil has ever played.
Props for the GnR as well :)
Thanks for us having Phil X demo, Julia Leah Brass May you R.I.P.
Beautiful looking and sounding guitar.
I have a 79 which is cool because you get the Norlin neck construction but it's actually a conventional body (not pancake) and of course the mini's sound AWESOME
1:43 "and you don't wanna make the hole any bigger, and if you keep taking the screw in and out it's gonna make it bigger" THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID
A really good singing voice!
Nailed Sweet Child! Rock on!
Mini hums are beautiful sounding things. So much better for playing non rock styles on an LP
those traps locks work awsome ive been using them for years
Phil X has been the only guitarist in a long time to make me actually want to play guitar again and practice properly
I love this guy he doesnt try snd sound all pro have his hands to his side when talking and all he acts like a human not a robot when interviews guitars and i love watching his videos!
Tonemaster is the funk! As the "Bad Monkey". Thanks Mr. Phil! Keep keeping it fun and reminding us why we play guitar..... "It's just badass fun"!!!
Wow how the hell did he do that , made that Les Paul sound like a strat right there on that Hendrix song, damn Mr. X , great video all the way thru.
I have this same guitar that was routed for humbuckers in the late 70's. I was told it had late 70's Seymour Duncan pickups. It sounds and plays amazing. Heavy guitar but I always love plugging it in.
I'm almost crying with the loving memory song, very sad and thoughtful since is a piano song, and all of the sudden this guy appear with so much energy hahaha
Hey, Phil, thanks so much for all of your reviews, running these instruments through their paces (i.e., "screwing around"...just like we would, given the opportunity!). Always helpful, brother. :)
Love that "Flight of the Bumblebee" at the end great sound!
It's currently fashionable in uninformed circles to slag all Norlin-era LP's. Having owned 7 Les Paul's ranging from 1969 to 2013, including 2 custom shop VOS (ES 1275 and R60), I have two 1976 LP Deluxes and find them to be the smoothest playing (slim taper neck) and sturdiest builds out of all my LP's. They have a two piece mahogany body, a 3 piece CARVED maple top and a three piece maple neck with volute, & sound incredible. The mini-humbuckers don't have the low end of a PAF, but the sweetness and sustain is incredible.
You are correct Baal. Norlins can be killer axes with just a few tweaks. And you don't have to kiss Henry's butt to own one...
Wow cool
Phil X is such a cool guy.
Sorry about your mom David.... Mine died 4 years ago.. and.. just keep on going, you guys are doing a great job (; Thank´s for the vids
May God bless you in this time of great loss.
what a beautiful guitar
amazing singer/shouter and a very solid guitar player.
I got a 72 deluxe, freakin awesome guitars!
U rock Phil X. Life is just a fantasy!
New PhilX video always makes my day
i watch these videos purely to watch Phil X jam out
nice playing at the end.... WOW!!! DUDE, that's ROCK!!
Love the mini humbuckers, i have a deluxe 69. Some people compare them to Fender single coils, I honestly would disagree. More like a single coil with extra cream, they are totally unique in my mind. But I am really happy that they seemingly remain unpopular, means more for me on the collectors working within a limited budget.
Phil you are the man !
This vid just made my day! Cheered me up in a second! Phil X, you awesome!
I like that little wing - perfect!
love that little wing!
Always liked these ,b4 I knew a lot about guitar differences,I remeber Joan Jett runaway area with these little type pick ups ,I think Townsend too. So it was the ax I wanted before I knew the 58-60 hype.
The same model and year that Ace Frehley used before he got his Cherry Sunburst. He had regular humbuckers installed but the neck pickup ring had to be cut where the fretboard meets the body but i guess standard humbuckers will fit in these. Check out early pictures of KISS and youll see what im talking about. I wanna get one of these and mod it like Ace's
best little wing by philx in a frettedamericana video...
the music is what unites us, though we do not know each other... and that's just magic:)
everybody together on David Brass's pain.
Great flight of the bumblebee ;-)
I have a bunch of those plastic strap locks, and they work great!!! Just bought a Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop, and it rocks!!!
wauww thats a real beauty there at the right man, that les paul with that brown sort of dessert burst
Ive watched a lot of your videos, and this one is top 5 for sure
little wing was fantastic!
Just bought this exact same guitar at the local pawn shop and it's incredible. I'm usually a Fender guy but this thing satisfies.
epic ending!...great guitar and happy to see phil rocking out again!
Eres una gran persona man, un fuerte abrazo desde Cusco, Perú capo.
You're welcome. They are a really good piece of kit. They keep my guitars safe from falling. Even when jumping about.
Gorgeous little wing. I dig.
How can you not love Phil X?
I have the same GOLDTOP !!! Love it
I sold mine in "96; regret it every day. Great guitar but I do not remember it sounding with this much treble.
Thanks for doin that guit, LOVE IT!
Awesome guitar and your playing too!!!!
7:00 to the end: totally epic meltdown!!!! nicely done!!
Who needs TV. WE HAVE PHIL X!!! Ninja Hugs(Coined from Bartley)
Phil from Arkansas!!!
Beautiful intro, touched my heart
Sweet looking LP.
@curunduraj If you live in Canada, Long and McQuade sells them. But another thing you can use is Grolsch beer tabs, they have this little rubber ring that will stretch around your strap buttons, and it works very well.
I've got a '73 Standard. Great neck. Cool video. Thanks!
what a voice ! great !
Phil doing "Little Wing"...wow that was beautiful!!!! Thank God for Phil...to say the least.
Cool sht man. Thanks for the tip on the strap lock. Keep on rockin.
It's the best Paul to have, nice one.
this man speaks the truth, all those guys sitting with a guitar between them and a computer not wanting to just jam along to a tune without thinking "um i need to see the tabs for this song maaan"
ive been playin for more than 10 years and while im no technichal master i have plenty of fun just jammin, usually without any tabs in sight. USE YOUR EARS!
Nice guitar! I've never seen one like it and its very impresive!
I'm going to check it out on the site next!
Love when Phil goes bonkers, (i.e. "Flight of the Bumblebee.)
What a sweet sounding guitar!
this video totally changed my mind about mini humbuckers. this guitar has such an amazing tone. and honestly, the price is much much less than i was expecting.
his characterxd when jack black meets dave grohl, with guitar hero-level skills. super great guy! great reviews. love it:D
You are the prince of rock and the sun of the God of rock PHILX you rule!
It sounds really nice, and suprisingly strat-like!
Awesome rippin!!! Funny too :)
@theroyallowdown i'm afraid it was sold, but please check out our website for more guitars!!
@DunnampedwithCG I use beer bottle rubbers around the strap buttons. It does the job just as as well and you got in addition to that drink when you're not playing ;)
Your great. Cant believe that guitar stayed intune.
Phil is just too awesome.
Thank you soo much for this video!
I have the same guitar, model and year!
finally!! phil plays songs that i can play!!
Holy hell, I knew Phil X could rock, but I didn't know he could shred like that!!!
This Little Wing cover was so sweet!
Great little wing!
