Still waiting on my computer, so I show off my new favorite sci-fi memorabilia acquisition. a set of blueprints of the United Planets space cruiser C-57D from the movie Forbidden Planet.
This is my all time favorite sci-fi starship and I am really happy I managed to find this set, they float around and although not many exist since it;s obscure you can still find them here and there, I got this set off eBay.
Anyway I needed to do a video and I wanted to show off these absolutely beautiful blueprints of my forthright star ship - เกม

I pruchased the same plans on Amazon and they are great ... built the landing gear and lower deck, still alot of work to do!
making a model? I really want to build a model. or a 1:1 replica and live in it like a madman.
It would also be cool to have blueprints for the flying saucer in The Day The Earth Stood Still.
I just purchased one of these packets, I'm planning to find a way to scan them and post them for posterity.

Shane Johnson did magnificent work on famous SF spaceship blueprints. His DISCOVERY-1 blueprints from Kubrick's '2001' need to be published again -- I got a copy of 'em from an old STARLOG magazine. I dig these C57D blueprints, even though there's one small error: he doesn't have the 'garage' where they keep the tow-truck that is lowered to the ground and used to get them around on the surface of the planet. One minor flaw in an otherwise terrific set of plans.
A few years ago, some guy was posting his WIP of a gorgeous cad drawing of the ship. I was eager to see how he handled the landing gear, but never found that installment. :-(
Would the hyperdrive be the equivalent of a warp core, that thing which must be a dime a dozen. Eject and detonate to avoid certain death from whatever natural phenomenon threatens the ship?
Many Bothan spies died so you can see this.

Major flaw in the spaceship specs. Altair is 16.77 light years from Earth, and they were in space for 378 days, so the cruising speed had to be over 16 times the speed of light.
Yeah I know, I suspect it was either variation between ships. Or the people who made the blueprints didn't expect people like us to run those numbers.
_Forbidden Planet_ was the first sci-fi movie where a flying saucer was a vehicle piloted by humans from Earth, not aliens.

Interesting but 4 toilets n 3 sinks for about 60 men is really inadequate.

Yeah the bathroom situation and sleeping situation is very much anti-luxury.
I can I suppose, digital copies do exist as well as physical copies as it's kind of an obscure bit of memorabilia.

I had so many of these blueprints but I use them so much as a kid I love them so much that I destroyed them I’m not sure where they are at this point
I am NT and sales can expand upon the model 57D morbuis I quantum mechanical services. PS: I have been compromised by those who are fighting for control over the planets resources, most hardy hahaha!? I'm going to ask 4 backing.

I have one set opened, & one set unopened. FB is my second favorite sci-fi film.
The cruising speed listed is too slow to get to Altair in a year. Even the max speed is too slow.
I noticed that too, in the movie it was 1 year to Altair. in reality it was just a mistake but in universe i'm going to say the ships engines where upgraded after the booklet was published.
Maybe it was a year relative to the ship clock. If the cruiser can make light speed, in special relativity they would get to Altair in ZERO ship time and from their POV the space between Earth Station and Altair would have also shrunk to ZERO. However Earth Station may have experienced decades by the time they return.
Starship travel movies seldom use that formula from real physics, because they want Leslie Nelson or Bill Shatner to age along with HQ. This one, at least, gave them a Captain Cook feel of being in deep space for a year to get to the far horizons to meet the pretty girl.
Hey in Space1999, they left the galaxy in just a few months, using no artificial or directed constant propulsion, jus a moon having reached Earth escape velocity from their altitude (which isn't that fast). Plot magic of hack writers.
@@STho205 Commander Adams, in an FTL starship, and Dr. Morbius, "stationary" on Altair 4, both describe the Bellarophon mission as happening 20 years prior. It doesn't seem like time dilation is a factor with whatever propulsion system the C57D had..... You should never, ever, ever, ever compare Space1999 to a gem like Fobidden Planet😂
@@thereynolds2725 THUS THE MASSIVE BULLSHIT of almost every starship story. The outgrowth of fantasy comics in the 20s and the Noland novellas of the same decade. These movies aren't SCIENCE fiction, but ENGINEERING fiction with science technojibberish added. Fun but bull. I liked the movie.
One gathers that this ship was constructed in the VERY early days of deep space exploration. You would expect that later ships were far faster. I don't think the writers quite realized that Altair is actually a star quite close to us on a galactic scale. It's also a very young and high mass star that couldn't have yet produced a viable planet, much less one that hosted an advanced civilization. If made today, the writers would have probably picked a star at least a hundred light years off.
I can't help but think that, when compared to Star Trek's line of starships, the UP's small cruisers compare favourably. For the effort of building ANY of the various Enterprises, you could build a whole flotilla of C57D type vessels and conduct interstellar surveys in a more widespread manner. The ability to land directly on a planetary surface is better than relying on those godawful Trekkian transporters!

Have you ever learned just to FLATTEN OUT A POSTER TO REDUCE WEAR!!!!!!!!!
yeah, when I get frames for them they will be carefully flattened out and prepared for display. Until then I keep them in their envelope and don't unfold them. They are over 30 years old, I don't want them unfolded and flattened out until I can have them in frames where they will be protected.
Also when I do flatten it out I want lines to still show so it looks like a flattened out folded schematic sheets. adds an extra level of dynamic in universe realism.
If you are going to do an unboxing video and explanation, do a dry run first. Open it up, look through it, familiarize yourself with it, think what you want to say in what order.
wait $500 for a motherboard ?? what do you have a super computer ?? you can get a good MB for under a $100 ...anywho interesting find off of Ebay ... how much did you pay for this ? the original price being only $7.95
around $30 (it was in USD so there was a mark up from CAD) over all a pretty good price as mine came with Robby the robot, Ive seen the same set for the same price on amazone without Robby so i'm pleased.
Also, you're a nerd [like me, but I prefer Geek] you should know how to build your own [like me] unless its a laptop, I stay away from them but an acquaintance took his
apart and couldn't get the shell back together. It was all in the cable routing but new RAM [yes, laptop RAM has a different form factor from desktop RAM] and he was back in business after I got my hands on it.
Lone Browncoat I've built many systems myself as well as installed cards, ram and OS's... laptops are a different animal some components aren't that big a deal but others are meant to be done by the factory... not to say you can't do it but they are a pain in the butt

As usual, the videos of such hobbyists move the object/ paper diagrams too much. Often I stop the video to get a long enough look. I would have laid out all the schematics before doing the video.
Yeah sorry, When I get them mounted I might do a follow up. It was just a quick thing because I needed a video as my computer was dead and I wasn't able to make content that month. Legit wasn't expecting to get over 30 views on this video as it was just space filer.
