I had a german shepherd for 14 years, best dog I've ever had. I recognize that posture, he got into a lot of fights with dogs running up when he was walking on a leash. He never started a dog fight but he finished quite a few. Rest in Peace Duke, you were a damn good dog.
We had a lab-shepherd female. she was 3-0 against 2 of our neighbors pits and 1 stray rot that was trying to eat one of our outside cats. Its like a video game or something, all shepherds have "Leadership" stats that make it smarter in combat.
My dogs name is Duke and this same situation has happened. Walking 100 ft into a very open field dog park, a golden retriever charges out of his car and directly to my shepherd. Him and I both unaware as we are going the opposite direction. Retriever was already on my dog and his owner not even out of the car yet. He handled him and came out with no injuries as I yelled terrified. Also went a little deranged on the owner myself, not my proudest moment as a human. But thankfully realized Duke at least is not one to start a fight. Incredibly frustrating.
Indeed. Nice how the rottweiler began to change his aggressive attitude when the gs approached, diverting it to licking his nose; and how and the gs reacted immediately, knowing the rottweiler had given up and shown submission. The gs ears change at the end are very telling. You can see too how change the hair on his back.

@@Renee-zy6oy commonly your average street corner Rotti will carve up the everyday backyard Shepard. However any real dog man will tell you, every large hard biting breed has closely guarded bloodlines that produce seemingly unstoppable finishers. My Father used to breed German Shepherds and they all had their own unique personalities, this particular shepherd is a very confident canine not wanting conflict but will not back down either ! Gentlemen dogs ...
Mine too! Same way as this shepherd. Acted human. You could talk paragraphs (it seemed) and he was welcomed everywhere and known all through town. Felt like I lost a little brother when he died....had to do it myself. 10 years from now I'll still treat the driver like it happened yesterday, if I ever find him.
So what made the Shepherd decide it was safe to proceed? Was it the bark? I'm thinking if it was serious the Rot would have growled instead of bark. Was it the slight tail wag when the Rot barked? Did that signal "I'm not wanting to fight just to get the food if I can"? At some point the Shepherd decided to step forward for a sniff or a test. Did the sniff tell the Shepherd this dog is not serious? Or was the Shepherd saying - I'm coming in and if you want to fight we will? The Rot was doing a lot of tongue licking - was that part of the communication ? The Rot leaned backward slightly as the Shepherd eased in - it seemed to be settled at that point. And what made the Rot back down? - Not looking for a fight from the beginning?

Energy doesn't lie. Bravado is no substitute for true strength. This interaction was an exchange of energy and strength, with the German Shepherd quietly showing the Rottweiler that he is more than a match for him. The Rottweiler felt the force and backed away sensibly.
Nevah happen...just like the well-trained "police dog" that he is, he took control of the situation & calmly proceed to eat the rottie;s chow....right in front of him! @@M21L35 police dog? Police use working line dogs from Europe. This clearly isn't a working line dog. They might as well be 2 separate breeds because they have nothing in common.
The thing here is that there is no alpha. There's simply a dominant one. People use the term "alpha" incorrectly and use it to imply the strongest individual in a particular group, especially in wolves. But in wolves who are most likely referred to as alpha wolves, they're not truly the strongest individuals. They're just the parents of the pack. If there's an off chance that one of their children fight for dominance and wins, it still doesn't become alpha. It's simply just stronger and fighting is still unlikely as some wolves leave when they're old enough to start their own packs and become the alphas of that one.

One of the things I learned while doing my old job as a meter reader for the electric company...there is no dog more dangerous than a healthy and confident German Shepherd... Where most breeds can't control their impulse to alert, or their desire to attack, the Shepherd uses stealth, cunning and discipline to it's advantage... I've had Shepherds intentionally hide in their yards and wait until I was far into their perimeter before attacking...it's as if they intentionally waited until I got to a position where they felt they could beat me to the fence line... I worked in very poor neighborhoods, with many Pitties, Rotties and other more hardcore outdoor guard dog types, and the two closest calls I've had were ambush style attacks by hiding Shepherds...

My German Shepard was also called duke wtf
My dogs name is Duke and this same situation has happened. Walking 100 ft into a very open field dog park, a golden retriever charges out of his car and directly to my shepherd. Him and I both unaware as we are going the opposite direction. Retriever was already on my dog and his owner not even out of the car yet. He handled him and came out with no injuries as I yelled terrified. Also went a little deranged on the owner myself, not my proudest moment as a human. But thankfully realized Duke at least is not one to start a fight. Incredibly frustrating.

All that Alpha bs is just that: bs. Debunked by the same man who came up with it. Misinformation.

I worked in very poor neighborhoods, with many Pitties, Rotties and other more hardcore outdoor guard dog types, and the two closest calls I've had were ambush style attacks by hiding Shepherds...
hahahhaahh damn dog was watching you all the time and waiting for you to get to a point where he knew he could run you down quick hahaaah.
