Tom my AI is via these YT tutorials and i'm learning a lot but need to practice 🙂 Keep yours coming especially the re-builds (part 2 of this will be on my list). My carb block came today as well. smaller than anticipated so i hope i got the right one 🤐 Sorry just felt the need to share that my workshop trolley tool chest arrived 3 days early as well. I heard noise at the door and the delivery driver presented me with a huge wet and dirty cardboard package. he managed to get it to my door on his own. he explained that he dropped it twice. I told him he should have asked me for help but allegedly he wasn't allowed to. I signed the item unchecked even though the box was damaged. Unpacked and found the item damaged / dented and have requested a new one. unknown to me at the time of the delivery, but the noises i heard prior to him knocking was the parcel being dropped and rolled by the driver down my concrete steps. All captured on ring door bell.....Bloody idiot.
Glad the videos help :) did you use the link I shared re the block? if not, so long as the PN was the same it’s all good :) what a pain re your tool chest, that’s just stupid he didn’t use a dolly… sorry to hear that… hopefully the replacement arrives in better shape!
pretty unique idea for a video, i honestly never thought of asking AI to fix stuff. first time watcher, and will stick around! good video. edit: the shotgun approach is good to make sure you cover all of your bases.
ChatGPT didnt go into detail what we are looking at…not everyone mechanical inclined don’t know what they are looking at… a score piston might look normal to others
That's a wonderful landscape in the background once again. May I ask in which region of Australia you are living? It looks temperate, maybe around Adelaide or in the southwest?
Interesting- It does seem like the program gave more of a "shotgun approach" type list (of all things that should be checked/inspected). I'm pretty confident that you or Erica would have found the problem with/without AI- Keep up the great content. Thanks!
Yes it was interesting! Certainly not the order I’d do, but even as a basic list for new people to engine repair to follow I think it’s pretty handy :) I’m not out of a job just yet 🤣
AI has become very good at creating texts in about every language, that is remarkable indeed. The checklist was not bad at all, but without experience or at least basic knowledge - would it really help? In real life a hobbyist would just have fired up the saw and found it would run very bad, then inspect carb, ignition and so forth. Finding the piston damaged so bad would have taken more disassembly without the bore scope, that tool was really helpful here. But would the hobbyist have and use one in the right way when AI suggests "check muffler for blockages"? Good luck with repairing that neat little saw, I'm excited to watch!
24 degrees F, howling winds and 6in of snow. Wish I was there. No wonder so many old people move to Florida. Don't know how folks up north deal with it. Neat option for your smart phone. I'm still trying to figure out my flip dumb phone. 🥴👍🍻
Hmmm.... all you got from ChatGPT there was a list of troubleshooting steps. You could have got that off the internet without using AI, or out of a book without using the internet at all. The trick was knowing how to conduct each step and interpreting what you were seeing. I'm not saying AI couldn't have helped there but you didn't need it and [presumably] didn't use it beyond getting the initial checklist. It would be interesting to repeat the experiment but use someone non-mechanically minded to do the troubleshooting/repairing. That way they could ask AI how to complete each step and also how to interpret the results.
For someone that needs to ask this question of AI, they will not have the mechanical aptitude to perform the inspection properly, as evidenced by the problem not being on the AI list. Much like using the internet for research, one still has to rely on their human factors and experience for a realistic resolution (dependent on circumstances) vs that of theory.
Great points! It's all about applying the knowledge :) I think chat gpt could certainly go into more detail on specific tests if you weren’t sure. If they were technically 100% correct, I’m not sure lol.
I’m no tech expert. I guess the chat gave a generic list of what to look at, which is fine. If you asked a more specific question I wonder what sort of answer you’d get.
I think you’re right Al, if I asked it to talk me through specific tests (compression test for example) I think it would have gone in more depth. I did ask for a concise guide. Maybe something to reassess :)
Defiantly the way of the future, cool video man, I have recently service a few whipper snippers here in Brisbane, they use to run on brake cleaner fine but not start by themselves, I gave them a full service, changed fuel lines, fuel filter, spark plug, rebuilt and cleaned carby and replaced metering diaphragm, otherwise new carby and now they are backfiring? Like the coil has failed? Any thoughts?
@ I did, weird it was not doing it before though, my supercheap are $10 a plug in Brisbane They want $68 a spark plug at repco for non turboed charged Subaru
You shouldve let chatgpt do the visual inspection, by taking pictures and videos. You should redo the video where you act as a total beginner or aks a total beginner to oerform the rebuild, this, as other people said, is just a list of things, then you already have the knowledge on hoe to make sure everything is correct

I had no idea that today I would watch how to diagnose small engines with an AI procedure, but this was quite interesting sir
Haha glad you enjoyed it :)

good video.

Glad you enjoyed it! It was a fun one to make :) I agree and think it covered the basics well!

Well it won’t replace a mechanic any time soon fortunately! But it can certainly give someone new to repairs a direction I think!
Very cool! 😊
Thanks guys :) good to see you here!
@@VintageEngineRepairs the weather looks lovely there!
@@marriedwithsmallengines it is! 28-35c too hot really 🤣 I’ll take it over your extreme cold though 😆
Excellent video, thank you Sir!
Thank you :) I appreciate the kind words!

Dang!!! Yeah I’d take 35c over that I think, though I do like cold snowy winters occasionally :p nothing wrong with a flip phone 🤣👍🏻

10 seconds in. No !
But I'll watch
Hahah it’s certainly interesting :)
All hail our future AI overlords!
Interesting video. 👍
Hahah hopefully not but it feels like that’s the direction doesn’t it!
I can never get over how people on the web use the word excited, excited surely keen would be more appropriate.
lol, I use both. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

I wonder what would appear if you asked the same question in a Google Search?
That would be an interesting comparison!
ChatGPT only gave you a superficial list of what to check. No AI involved.
I thought it was quite comprehensive!
Great video, my friend
Thank you :)

Back firing is either coil, flywheel position or plug, did you use a name brand plug? If not it’s worth a try, only $6 from Supercheap.
@ I did, weird it was not doing it before though, my supercheap are $10 a plug in Brisbane
They want $68 a spark plug at repco for non turboed charged Subaru
I also did full service on a homelite, changed everything and fuel bulb gets stuck in but it will still start and run perfectly
I insist, the content of this channel is just invaluable. You should put together all this wisdom in a Udemy course. Cheers!!!!💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

Thanks for a very interesting suggestion!!
Is That a 201TC-M Tom Looked like it Had The Solenoid on The Carb If It was a 201T It Would Not ? 😐😐😐
It did yes :) i didn’t even look to see if it was m-tonic at the start of the video to tell AI. That recoil cover can’t be the original!
Very cool! 😊
Thank you :)
