It was our little piece of America and home in a foreign land. Lots of good memories and plenty of times stumbling through the door to show my ID to the laughing German guards. It was great being young and in Germany!

Thanks for the video. I use to drive in the same direction coming from Fe-Annerod. I was stationed at depot back in 79-82 at HHB 42nd FA Group. The first building to the right as you enter the gate is where I worked. It was Building 1 and dubbed "The White House". It housed Headquarters, 42nd FA Group and Giessen Military Community. The planters and barriers at the gate were not there when I was stationed there. I heard the Woodland EM Club which was across the street from depot closed down in 2002. That was the place to party when I was stationed there. The other white buildings across from depot you showed were the BOQ billeting on the left and the Guesthouse on the right for families first arriving to Giessen, Germany. Thanks again for sharing.

I was there from '87 to '90. I remember one of the brigade commanders, his last name was Rowe from Bronx, NY, and had a lot of mouth. I saw him again on some AFN show doing an interview shortly before Desert Strom kicked off, and he'd made Brigadier General.

They should have turned this into a shrine to all the soldiers who served there. I was one. Hurts to see what they have done.

Hi Gordon. This is great. I was here with HHB 6th Bn 517th ADA (Hawk) 1969-1972. I enjoyed seeing the back corner of our barracks. From the front gate I could see the building where battalion headquarters was located. Thank you. This jogged my memory somewhat. Thank you. Mike McKinney

+Dennis Raulin - Dennis you still remember that. That was a long time ago. Actually, I followed all of the out processing protocol, just like everyone else who was being released early. Out processing at Fort Jackson was smooth. It was a real surprise when my family told me that someone was looking for me. I signed out at the Battery and everything. That should have been on the Morning Report. Thinking back, I guess I forgot to tell Mr. Randall I was leaving; in a hurry and all. I would love to hear about what happened.

I remember that now. Someone who said they were the Military Police did call my family in Dallas. I think it was Mr. Randall trying to scare me. He must have been pretty well pissed off. How about you? Did you make a career of the Army? You in government service now?

Hi Gordon, nice video. Was on Rivers from 1985-89, and have lived & worked here ever since. For awhile I lived in those "barracks" right across from Depot, where you were filming. They used to be the BOQ. BTW, there was an article in one of the Giessen papers the other day stating that the Woodland Club is up for sale - 410,000 euros, or roughly $554,000.
