  • My Hayward Superpump has a 2hp single speed motor. I came out to see the pool not running. This video shows how to troubleshoot and ultimately replace a dead pool pump motor.
From walking outside and seeing the pump not running I check
The outdoor circuit breaker to see if it’s tripped
    Voltage to the timer
    Voltage to the pump
    Pump capacitor
Once I determined the pump motor was dead, I bought a replacement. Installation of the new motor includes
Removal of the old motor from the pump
Removal of electrical from the motor
Removal of all gaskets and seals
Removal of the impeller and transfer of parts to the new motor
Checking that the voltage is correct for the new motor based on 120v or 240v
Wiring and installing the new motor
    Testing the system
    Enjoy

Great video. Very easy to understand your step-by-step process of the motor replacement. I called the pool store to get a replacement for my pump and was referred to another store. No single speed motors available. Second store still had some. Surprised you don’t have a salt pool. Chlorine generator does a great job of keeping the chlorine levels up plus the way]tier quality is infinitely better than using liquid chlorine. Your pool is gorgeous. Wonderfully bucolic and private. Cheers !

@@jamesstevens2591 thanks very much. Can’t believe someone actually watched! I searched for the video after posting it and was horrified to find hundreds of similar videos by pros. I think they want to push variable speed pumps, but good old eBay……….is where I got mine. A few companies wouldn’t ship to NY for some reason even though they are still fine to have. I wasn’t worth 2000 for an upgrade. My pool looks good from far, but it needs an overhaul that I’m putting off doing. I’ll look into a salt generator. This has been a tough year, I think I need to replace the sand. I appreciate you watching and I appreciate the nice comments.
