Making a Pulley - Lathe Machining

- Due to the failing memory of one of my contemporaries, I had to make a matching pulley to suit the one I did still have. A simple project for the lathe. Don't worry, it doesn't matter in this application that it does not match the original material.
nice. the supa glue beats a *supa* long parting tool and sawing through some thick stock.
How did you make the curve/groove in the pulley?
At about 3:10, it shows me using a thin grooving tool to remove the bulk of the waste and then profiling the groove with a round file. Not perfect, and certainly not precise, but suitable in this case.
If you cant buy it; make it. Simple.
My only comment is I would have made 2, just so they match, lol.
looks like its for a steel cable, ali wont last long.
You're quite right, however the cable is of a very low frequency use and has a short length for operation. If I ever have to replace it in my lifetime I will be very surprised. That being said, if I had some phenolic material on hand, I would have used it instead.
Never seen so much trouble to make a pulley. I dont know why this was recomended
Hey, sorry you didn't like the video. However, in light of this critique, may I ask what it is you would've done better, boss? Now, this was a pulley in a size that can not be bought off the shelf, mind, and I didn't have the round bar stock on hand either, so please do share your knowledge.
Thomas Fox i would probably have made it out of the round stock you were gluing it to in the lathe. I also thought the initial workout on the linishing belt to be a waste of time
@@chrishill6276 I think we are all looking forward to your video. In the meantime try not to be so mean.
