Johnny was so much better than I remember and compared to now it’s incredible. He was like a caravan of different people and acts. Ed Sullivan was like a circus but never talked to people.

@@ronniebishop2496 I feel the same way....Of course the shows now are a big fat zero compared to Carsons show. There are no decent late night hosts any more, they are all political hacks now.

Don't compare Johnny to Ed Sullivan. Different shows. Ed had a variety show, NOT a chat show with comedy monologue & skits.
Ed Sullivan Show was strictly entertainment, yet immensely popular at the time !
A lot of first appearances for many performers, like Elvis & The Beatles. 🤠

      Johnny handled Booger exactly right.
Johnny's jokes were gentle when he could have really made the man look bad for a cheap laugh.
Johnny was consistent that way with all the characters he occasionally brought on who were obviously not celebrities and could easily be the object of cheap laughs.

My grandma came from North Carolina to Oklahoma on a train in 1907, she actually lived in a half dugout and struggled to raise 9 kids. But after the civil war a lot of black families and southern people left the South during the crazy reconstruction and there are lots of different kinds of people there. A lot of people that get divorced or their spouse dies just can no longer be still so they travel everywhere.

This guy was cool. I think Johnny's timing got thrown because this guy was too real. Johnny made a living by talking and not missing a beat, drummer that he was, and this guy just 'made a living' by just living. Didn't need to waste too many words. Didn't need to talk too fast or try too hard to be witty. The wisdom is in the silences with real men like this guy. Hollywood isn''t really used to that.
