    I use outlaw soaps blazing saddles solid cologne. Smells badass, it's subtle, and it's small enough that it can be tossed into your pocket.
    I love that solids tend to have more masculine or just uncommon scents. "Leather, sandalwood, gunpowder, sage, two kinds of campfire, and a little dirt."

    Great to see your take on solid perfumes--I've not tried them but certainly they seem to have their uses. Resiliency at the expense of projection seems like a fair trade, at least as an option.

      absolutely. I think it's good to see these as an alternate perspective in fragrance use. Not everyone wants to use fragrances in the way that most in the fragrance community do. So I like them. :)

    Have not tried any from this house but it sounds interesting... Personally I have not had good results with solid perfumes in the past (just not lasting at all) but again I've not tried anything from this house so perhaps they use more oil than the others I have tried... Solid colognes are enjoyable, but wearing them is absolutely a different experience. Specifically in the ritual of application. When you apply an alcoholic spray perfume your senses are completely overwhelmed and engulfed by the fragrance due to the initial rapid diffusion of the scent. Those highly volatile components can just hit you like a ton of bricks, in a good way. Solids just can't give you that same kind of initial, intense rush.

    • @voltaire5427
      @voltaire5427 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I’d imagine solids would be somewhat comparable to a bar of deodorant projection-wise.

    It doesn't need to just be solid to not dry out your skin. Their are oil based liquid sprays and roll ons. Do solids work as a stand alone perfume? I have heard you should use like a spray and just use a solid to touch up.(edit) went on the website and this brand actually DOES use alcohol in their solid colognes.

    I love all fragrance, but I do love, solid perfumes, and colognes because they are such a great alternative for travel, putting in your purse or pocket, etc. And although they don’t have the projection and sillage fluid fragrance, that isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes we want a very intimate scent.
    This is great for those times when you’re in small areas or you’re having intimate moments where you’re snuggled with your partner and a movie theater or in bed watching TV, etc. and you don’t want a lot of projection.
    I agree, more companies need to make solid colognes, and I love the containers. Some are refillable, but often times empty and they don’t have refills. I just use my lip balm recipe and fill it with my favorite homemade lip balm.
    Great. Thanks so much.

    For me, the so-called benefits remove much of what I love about fragrances. Namely, the aesthetically wonderful bottles, the uplifting sensations unique to spraying a fragrance, and modest projection. If one knows how to wear their frags responsibly, it’s easy to be loved as the cologne guy and not dreaded as the too-much-cologne guy. If I have to put nose 0-6 inches from the application spot to smell a fragrance, it’s failed at its basic duty. I’m really glad these exist to give people more options though. Options are good. FWIW, I think everyone who wears fragrances should at least moisturize their application zones. You get a huge boost to both performance and overall scent quality.

    Alcohol based fragrance has over the decades created some truly amazing bottle designs and presentation. Solid fragrance in a tin? They have a long way to go as far as visual appeal and marketing is concerned. On the subject of marketing, they need to offer some free samples if they want people to buy; I have yet to see a solid fragrance for men on sale in any stores (Salvador Dali had a miniature solid perfume and soap set for ladies, the only solid fragrance I remember seeing). Also, I was under the impression, and correct me if I'm wrong, that a spray fragrance allows the various notes to evaporate at different rates, which is why the fragrance develops over time. Does this happen with solid fragrance? I would say that to make solid fragrance (for men) anything more than a novelty would require a big designer name to produce a solid fragrance with amazing design. I am now looking at my DW Home tobacco leaf candle and wondering if I should start rubbing myself all over with it...

    • @FragranceBros
      @FragranceBros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, the evaporation of fragrance notes is based on the volatility of the fragrance oils in a fragrance, not based on the application. Also candle fragrances are completely different in the way they are made, so it wouldn't make a good fragrance on your skin, much like your favorite cologne wouldn't be a good candle if you poured it into wax.

      Two words-Projection and sillage. A quality liquid will beat its solid counterpart every time on those. Solids win on longevity, storage, practicality, and transportability. But they are linear, so you won't get the nice transitions that you get from liquids as the notes evaporate off of your skin.

      Pomades and such are also scented wax. Have you tried candles in your hair?
      There are different types of waxes with different properties.

    Good stuff Daver. This may seem like an odd question - What's the difference between a solid cologne and a scented candle?

    • @FragranceBros
      @FragranceBros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually talked about that when I recorded, but cut it out in post. The wax is different. You need a certain type of wax for candles. But besides that, it's a lot harder to get your favorite scent as a candle because the oils usually don't work well as a candle. Many times the candle will smell faint. I don't know why--I'm sure experts in this field could explain better. But ultimately while you won't have to sacrifice to have your favorite scent as a solid, you would to have it as a candle.

      Interesting! I've been dabbling a bit with mixing frag oils with a variety of materials like unscented shampoos, liquid soaps and shaving creams to see if I can customize my daily hygiene experience. In short, it works. In addition, I've also started using diffusers and even scented jewellry to supplement my experiments. However, I've recently been looking into creating custom candles and I think you're right about the wax and concentration issue. Evidently it takes a great deal of oil to make a single candle and the bonding elements in the wax play an important role. Otherwise, the heat can damage the fragrance, or else hinder the diffusion. I guess I'll stick with my diffusers for the time being! Thanks for your input Dave.

      candles are just wax and scent. The perfumes have carrier oils also and usually different waxes.

    the worst thing about them is lack of projection. It just doesn't work as a fragrance if people have to put your nose to the app point to smell it.

    • @FragranceBros
      @FragranceBros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's just a difference of perspective. Many people don't like loud fragrances. My wife doesn't. I personally do like have quiet scents in my wardrobe.

    • @raikahoken
      @raikahoken 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't like loud scents too like 1 Mil or Sauvage. But these are not even quiet, these are dead. I've tried some. They don't project, and as such I can't smell them. When I wear a fragrance I want to be able to at least smell it myself from time to time. I can't smell these unless I put my nose directly at the app point. Some people might be into that, but that's a fail to me.

    Do you have any recommendations for a cologne of any kind using only natural organic ingredients and no phthalates? They act as synthetic estrogen in a man's body and are extremely toxic, and are in virtually every fragrance, in fact the word fragrance is a sign of having them.

    You can take any liquids on a plane as long as they are under 100ml. The same rules apply for solids such as soaps and wax

      Don't talk out of your ass. You can put it in your checked baggage, you can't carry it on. If they let it on for you, it was an accident. Look at the TSA website before you come back with some unfounded dumbass claim.

    You can't spray it on clothing for added longevity though. The projection will be less as well. They have been selling these "solid colognes" in the Middle East for decades.

    • @FragranceBros
      @FragranceBros  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see the quieter projection as a bad thing. As I said, many people don't want a fragrance to be loud. You can still put solid fragrance on clothing.
