  • Here's a flashback slideshow to 2013 when we ripped out the old refrigerator and rebuilt it from scratch.

I know this video is 6 years old but Sailing Vessel Mig found a local business man up in Washington that builds custom fridge/freezer setups as far as the compressor and lines etc.. he did a video on it and the small business owner said he will build anyone anywhere whatever they need and he could ship it in a well built crate..

Ah, most of your videos are great, this one is such a short overview, with not enough content. Would be nice to see more detail on how you did it. I'm thinking at least 4 to 5 videos. I realize that is a lot of work though so. On my last boat, a endeavour 40, I had to pull the entire unit apart, remove all the insulation, etc. But never got to rebuild it before getting rid of it. Any old boat will need a refrigerator rebuild as the foam will be toast and therefore the amp hours to run it high. I was thinking of pouring two part foam in after the reflectix insulation. to avoid potential leaks between seams of flat insulation, but the poured foam can have voids as well. The off the shelf units just aren't big enough, or are only front loaders and not very efficient imo. I have a marine fridge on my rv and while it is fairly efficient it has condensation issues.

Hi Bob, this was one of the first projects we tackled when we bought the boat, long before we started posting things on TH-cam so it's more of a compilation of still photos we used to document the progress rather than a "how-to" video. Also, we actually almost bought an Endeavour 40 before finding our Tayana 37. Thanks for watching.

@@svrambleon Endeavours are not well built boats IMO so you are lucky I guess to have not gone that route. Tayana's have their issues are well though but Bob Perry drew some nice lines on them. We almost bought a Tayana 37 but it had so many problems on the survey and sea trial we walked. Probably a good thing we did. Now I am thinking of a Trintella 4 or a Victory 40 as my next boat next year when I retire. Time will tell.

I thought the tecknautic system was the best one you could get when it came to be energy efficient and the use of cold plates means the fridge wont run all the time. That was a lot of work to pull all of that out.

Still waiting for that galley-episode ;)

Hi Martin - I swear the galley episode is almost done. I've been out of town for 3 weeks helping our neighboring county of Sonoma with fire disaster relief. I'm back now, and I'll get the dang galley episode done. This weekend we're just fixing some leaks that have sprung up after 5 years of being completely dry (go figure). But we've got a lot of installation projects planned this year. Thanks for watching!
