New to your channel, very insightful analysis and exactly on point! Poor quality RV's are becoming legendary, in a bad way, it is discouraging prospective buyers from coming in and is even resulting in some who have purchased poorly built units to have a bad taste to leave the RV market! The industry motto seems to be "Pay more, get less". What other kind of business is so self-defeating?!

I was chatting to a manufacturer rep about 6 months ago (these folks only make class c’s) and he was saying that their sales were slowing, class A sales were effectively dead, and trailers were really in trouble. Class B’s he thought were holding their own, only in that they didn’t get to expand production because there was delay in getting a chassis. Biggest challenge on trailer side was way too much inventory..and dealers were going to have sell at costs lower than they purchased. New Class B prices still don’t seem to have reduced at all, actually have gone up at least on the ones not owned by the big manufacturers (so folks like Pleasureway, Roadtrek, Panoramic all of whom are smaller, but generally better quality than the large manufacturers ). Quite enjoyed this update, but remember this is to be expected. I don’t see any need for concern, actually in my view it is all positive news. When you over produce, charge too much (over $200,000 here in Canada for a motorized product), poor builds and have poor client service at the dealership the market will correct to the positive. Hopefully that will lead to more realistic pricing, better quality (which really seemed to go downhill in the 2020 -2022 period) and service closer to what you can expect when you go to a car dealership.

Cutting quality always leads to bankruptcy. Many manufacturers will be going broke. The PE firms will be sweeping in and buying brands at fire sale prices and start back up debt free and run the cycle one more time.

Unfortunately the industry has done it to themselves. They make poor quality units with problems right from the factory and then IF they warranty them you could be waiting months for the dealership to repair or sometimes may be forced to take them back to the original manufacture. The entire industry is a disgrace and as I said they have done it to themselves. You tube has also helped warn people in the market of such poor quality.

It is a combination of factors leading to a decline in sales. I believe fuel prices are a lions share of the issue. RVs are known gas guzzlers and fuel prices hit the wallet hard. Even a moderate trip of 500 miles is going to hurt. 2, the quality just hasn't been there with RVs post COVID. That is the 500 lb gorilla in the room that the industry has to come to terms with. 3, lack of warranty support and RVs sitting in repair for months. The horror stories are getting out and have made people gun shy to purchase new. A lot of folks are looking at used pre Covid years. Personally, I was looking at a mew B plus but held off on purchasing just because of this very fact. Lastly, the industry needs robust competition from overseas manufactures to shake them out of their slumber and force their hand to produce a more quality product.

Back in 2002-2003 we had a custom fiver built by New Horizons in Junction City, KS. Loved it. Spent 3 1/2 years full timing in it. Now, we want to get back on the road part time (Class C, this time). But we are only looking at used units built before the pandemic. We will get whatever we choose inspected by a NRVIA certified inspector. We are doing so because of the widespread reports of quality issues. Quality, safety, reliability: those are what is important. Maybe someday we will buy (or have built) a new RV, but not until the RV industry gets its act together.

It’s amazing to us as we travel the country just how much inventory RV dealerships have on their lot. We ordered our Alliance in 2021 but our Lance we purchased in 2024 was a 2022 holdover. Hard to imagine them having to hold a unit for 2 years as inventory. They need to bring prices down and increase quality. Great analysis.

It's incredible that dealerships are holding on to models for that long. I hope you got a great deal on 2022! Dealerships are paying for each of the RVs on the lot. At some point they may have to sell at a loss if its not already happening.

I've anyways considered the RV industry as the 'bellwether' for the economy. They seem to be one of the first to take a hit once the economy seems to struggle. Living in northern Indiana, I usually notice early on due to the occasional local news coverage that becomes more prominent over time. But this time, there's other factors that muddies the water: 1) Covid probably caused the RV sales to spike upward., 2) The quality seems to a huge issue now (but I wonder how many first time buyers are even aware of that issue)., 3) Inflation. It would be interesting to know how much the RV industry expanded over the past 3-4 years and if sales are just returning to normal.
I should add, I don't own a RV but for some odd reason I enjoy watching the RV videos. Keep up the good work.

I love your channel, and enjoy your videos.
As a long time rv owner I’ve commented on your channel before. We are on our 8th coach, purchased new three years ago and still love it.
    These are just my opinions.
I’ve seen ups and downs before. The RV industry took a big hit in 2008 as well. And in other years.
The growth we saw during Covid was unusual. The “cool” thing to do and I never thought it was sustainable and not a lifestyle for everyone.
As you say, some manufacturers will go under, some small dealers selling out. Very Unfortunate, but part of the cycle.
I feel for folks who are trying to sell there rigs now, not a good time. But good deals now if you’re in the market and can handle the interest rates.
    Buying? Get an inspection.

During Covid, when taking a cruise meant probably getting sick, and flying on planes meant wearing a mask, everyone wanted to be separated / isolated. So RVs and AirBnB exploded. But that all ended 3 years ago. Now everybody is back on airplanes, in hotels, on cruiseships. There's a flood of used units out there and not many willing to pay for the new ones. That, and interest rates are the highest since the 1980s.
That said, this is a great time to be a cash buyer of a gently used 2-10 year old RV.

It cracks me up that some of these dealers think that 30% discount on a '23 is a "blow-out" sale. 😂🤣
IMHO, part of the reason for slow sales is the bad attitude of the manufacturers towards the consumers when they have warranty issues. GD for example.
On another note, do you think this was a good time for GD to debut their new motorized RV?

We too have a Winnebago Vista, but a 2022 model 29V we purchased new.
We should have had an inspection, but after 7 other motorhomes over 32 years I did my own. I missed that the house batteries were bad, and that the skylight had a hairline crack. These got fixed very quickly, and the build quality of our motorhome has been pretty good and we love it and the lifestyle. Our rig now has 39,000 miles. We’ve had accessories go bad ( water pump, awning motor, step motor, tank valves, rear camera) but nothing that stopped us from using it.
My only disappointment with Winnebago is the radius roof design. I’ve had to reseal the roof to side wall radius twice already.

People are not buying new, because these RV manufacturers are putting out overpriced sub-par units that they refuse to stand behind. And they wonder why no one is buying? Gosh, I wonder why? This is what happens when you have no accountability in an industry, the manufacturers wanted the freedom to put out high-priced trash and have no accountability, So I ask the manufacturers how exactly is this working out for you now?
I completely agree it's the trash factor, I'm looking for a used unit, and many still think that their used units are worth a goldmine still, and they are sitting.
I was looking for a Class A, then my plans changed and now I'm looking at LTV and people are ridiculous in what they want for one, But to be honest I don't want to buy a new one, because I will be a full-time and I need a quality unit that I can trust.

    Begin rant here:
$crew them! Ok, so that is a bit harsh, but I just call this paybacks for all the horrible quality and service they stuck consumers with during the big money grab. To this day I have not chosen an RV because of all the ugly history. You guys have shown us some beautiful "looking" coaches during your times at the big RV events, but we have decided looks are nothing more than a wig on a pig. My only concern is for the loss of jobs that come with slowing production. I just hope the idea of quality returns one day.
Between what we have seen with you guys and Cozy Living Machine (and many others) we are staying away especially from motorized RV's period. That is, unless we win multi-millions in the lottery and can afford a bus like a Liberty coach where you get the quality and you indeed pay for it. We have just come to the conclusion that build quality and materials are relative and at best subjective to what all these coaches are made of, which is junk. And service, or even being able to get service is so horrible it is NOT worth it to us to deal with that frustration.
We have heard all the excuses for why everyone has so many problems with their coach which we think began with conditioning over time from the sales people, "You know its like driving through a earthquake and your coach is always going to need repair..." etc. And for us suckers at the dealership looking to buy a coach and find so many flaws on the lot, "Don't worry, after we finish the paperwork we will get it into the shop and get everything fixed before you take delivery." Why in the world is it allowed to leave the factory like this? All this and more to say that after all of the video's you have put out, we keep seeing this common denominator where we find owners parroting stuff like that and just accepting all the nightmares because they have been conditioned to just accept it. Well, THANK YOU Amped To Glamp for saving me from the tortures of ownership!
We have entertained a bumper pull at most, but every time we go look at them we find the same disappointments seen in motor coaches if not worse. We follow up on some video's of people who own those same trailers to find the same laundry list of complaints. We are SOOOOO disenchanted with the RV life now and my wife and I were talking and figured if we spent even $70,000 on a coach, or more, just think of how many nice hotels we could experience across the country! How many guided fishing trips we could take and on and on as we calculated and pondered our options. Plus we would not have to store, repair, or insure a coach or any RV which are less to worry about in our old age. Maybe keeping it a bit more simple is smarter even though we will just have to miss out on some specific kinds of camping experiences.
Anyway, I have enjoyed watching your channel and appreciate being enlightened without having to actually suffer the consequences first hand. The internet has been a great tool allowing me to live vicariously through others so that I can make informed decisions before making bad decisions on my own. Even though I wont be buying what was previously known as my dream coach, I will be interested in seeing what happens next in the industry. I don't expect prices to come down so much to change my mind because it is way more than just being over priced. I just hope that somebody will step up and be the new face of quality, but I really doubt it! Thanks again for all the content so far and remind John that when he has more work to do on your coach and needs a hand, I am still available to come by with my comfortable chair and a cold drink so I can watch and giggle. (wink wink)

Hold on....let me grab a cup of coffee before reading this one. It looks loaded. 😉
Everything you wrote is the truth and it saddens me that the RV industry is driving away future RVers like you. But I get it. It's the reason why we still have the Bounder. We don't want to purchase anything new because we don't want to spend another 3 years getting it repaired. And, John's always saying....."well at least we know how to fix this one".
And it's not just you. The RV salesman tactics caused my brother to reconsider buying a RV. He wants nothing to do with them after the garbage they tried on him.
Quality wasn't mentioned in any of the quotes we found from any of the CEOs. Would have been nice if just one of them recognized that one of the reasons sales dropped is the lack of quality. And it would have been even better if one of them stood up and said we are going to change that.
We'll have to wait and see what happens.
BTW..we'll be putting in a new fridge. John says come on over. He could use a hand.

People have learned about this industry. A total upside loss on resale, horrible quality, failed vacations, total anxiety on each trip, high interest rates and grossly exaggerated msrp's. Anyone who's considering buying new, if it's a 23' left over you must negotiate a 50% off msrp- don't be afraid to ask for this. The dealers can longer increase their lines of credit or borrowing to carry these motorhomes.

I would love to talk to you two. I have a brand new bounder 2024 35K.2 mo old. I have quite the story to tell. We ordered this r v from the factory with a 24000 frame. We pick this rv up at general r v in florida. We bought this new motor home rather than used. Because we did not what problems. Unfortunately this is not the case. My wife fell And fractured her hip. What has this to do with my RV. This r v was released to us with no, dash air condition in 96 degree temps. Our trip, it was 2 Arizona. Where temperatures of 117 degrees. From florida, including general r v, who does not work on dash air condition even though they sold it to us. To Tucson, Arizona. Working with a ford Agent 2 hours trying to get a location for repair it never happened. Yes, we used the house air conditioners, which put many hours on a new generator. The house Air conditioning We're not in the front where we sat next to windows and heat. It was a real tough ride from Florida 2 Tucson Arizona. Toilets, that will not flush and a handicapped wife now. our - glove boxWe'll throw your stuff on the floor Because it will not stay closed on a Bumpy road.. Every time we would fill up at a gas station .our Gas tank wood throw about a gallon of fuel on the ground. The first time my wife used the facilities the Toilet paper dispenser fell out of the wall. We have a rattle in the steering column that sounds like a machine gun. The transmission does not seem to be shifting like it should which means now we are in search of a ford dealership that would work on our warranted 35K from rev. I will close with, I hope we run into each other. We can talk about how rev and general. R v have treated us.

Hi there! Congrats on making the decision to join the RVing community. There's a lot that goes into choosing a RV. We'd need to know how often you plan to camp, how far you want to travel, what type of camping (state parks, resorts, boondocking, etc). Will you need a garage in the 5th wheel for toys (golf cart, kayaks, etc). Then we'd also need to consider your budget. I'd recommend checking out this video first: th-cam.com/video/cAGfVtnty30/w-d-xo.html.
Once you've narrowed down how you want to camp and your budget we can help you with selecting the right RV for you and your family.

Hello, I’m a long time motorhome owner here in the Arizona desert. We are on our 8th one, 250k miles total over the years.
My suggestion to folks is to rent a few, see if you like the lifestyle, see what type of unit suits you best, and see the work and maintenance involved.
It is much cheaper to rent and find you don’t like it.
Everyone has an opinion. For us, when our kids were similar in ages as yours , we had a class C.
It worked well for us but now we have a class A. We’ve owned Winnebago, Forest River and Fleetwood products that were good to us. We tried one Thor product and were disappointed.

Greed from government causing interest rates to rise.

Greed from dealers trying to scam buyers with useless add ons you dont need.
    Greed again from government taxes.
