Ahead of the All-Ireland final, we went to the International Baseball Centre in Ashbourne to settle the age old question of who can hit the ball further, hurlers or baseball players.
Sure there are no opponents lining up to peel the head off a baseball batsman as he strikes the ball. I was at a Minor League Baseball game, The Isotopes, and the ball is pitched at phenomenal speed but the batsman has only to concenrrate on the ball and striking it. He doesn't have men before and behind him trying to stop him getting the ball or then taking the ball off him and making a run or passing the ball.
Those were barely baseball players by American standards, and the pitches were intentionally slow. This proves nothing. And gloves are needed if you want to pull a double play. And the fact you probably don't know what that means is why you don't know what you're talking about.
And hurlers don’t get paid to play their sport!?! It’s incredible that this game can sell out a 80,000 stadium and none of the players get paid!?! They play for the love of the sport!?!

a few years back in Chicago this was done with actual hurlers from Ireland on tour versus MLB players. MLB won it in a stroll. And they equally competed by having a pitcher and tossing it up for baseball and lifting from the ground and pucking out for hurling.

It's a niche sport in Ireland right now, it's the best they probably had. Although I agree is was apples and oranges. County level hurlers have fitness levels and training of professional level. The baseball guys were hobbyists. Not really a fair comparison. But it was good fun!
The boss of the hurl may have more surface area but you have to strike the ball directly in the middle of it where the sweet spot is to get a good puck, hit it anywhere else and the ball wont travel more than 15-25 meters
The difference is in baseball there is one bat on the field, in hurling there are 30 hurls, you have to stick your bare hand up in the air to catch it can get hit by an opponent or a team mate they play with broken fingers, no big deal.
Hurlers are hitting from further up using a tool designed to make hitting their target easier and don't have to fight against the force of a 100+ mph throw...of course they're going to hit farther. If you want a real answer to this question, have both groups use both tools while hitting a stationary target.
It will be only be "fair" when they match the best hitters in global baseball against the best long hitters from Hurling. Some of the so called baseball players in this video have a swing like a rusty gate.

Plus all the gloves are are a leather extension of your hand, the fingers are stiff and the palm in thin as about 5 latex gloves.

It's not just the padding. lol I also don't get why you mock padding and protective gear. Even with it American football players end up with severe injuries more often than rugby players do. If anything they need better safety gear. The main reason more padding isn't used in rugby is because ppl think it will actually result in more injury and they may well be correct.
