Congratulations to you in Manila, The Philippines this Sunday in joy touring across the city.I wish you ALL the BEST on your trip to the Philippines this September of 2022!
Beautiful. PH was a US territory in the past years, so there are major American influences in culture, and you can find many American brands and stores. You went in the old city which is Manila City. Metro Manila is huge and composed of many cities, and one of them is just Manila City. The newest and cleaner part of Metro Manila is Makati City and the modern, BGC.
Wow, you already covered a lot in this video alone. I appreciate the comprehensive, edited and informational style. International travelers will love this. But for Filipinos, they don't mind raw vlogs and would still watch. You could probably have had 4 to 5 vlog topics just from this video alone. But of course, if you don't want to compromise your artistic integrity for quick views, would really respect that. I think you'll go a long way with travel vlogging. Take care and good luck. Have fun as well!
Great video, Phoebe. My recollections of Manila date back to a business trip in 2007. Stayed at Traders Hotel and got there a couple of days early to check out the place. So, first morning went to the concierge to see about city tours or something (like you do in other Asian cities) but nothing! Back then it wasn't really tourist oriented because everyone went to Cebu and other places for that. They even had to hunt around for a city map (my essential city aid). Anyway, managed to get a taxi around the place and saw much of what you did. Security back then was very tight. Security checked you *before* you entered a building/shops, and one restaurant even had a box at the door in which to place your firearms! The Mall of Asia was awesome - I see that they still have the ice-skating rink! Starbucks there does seem to be better than other places. Food is phenomenal. But did you go to Jollibees? How about a ride in a Jeepney?
Wowwww that sounds like a different world! You'll have to go back one day to do a comparison :) Cos I can't eat heavily processed foods or meat/dairy/eggs, a visit to Jollibee didn't seem to be a good fit hahaha I swear I miss out on so many good food experiences!

Manila was the hub of the hubs of world trade in the old times the other hub being Acapulco in Mexico. Trades coming from the east going to the west would leave the port of Manila and conversely goods coming from the west will be leaving Acapulco. The Manila Acapulco galleon trade that run twice a year for 250 years without fail from 1565-1815 between Manila in the Philippines and in Mexico. One such item that is very popular among the Europeans that were traded via this galleon trade was named after the city of Manila this article of clothing is called "manton de Manila" you would be very familiar with this because this is the ornate embroidered shawls worn over the shoulders by the Spanish flamenco dancers. In short Manila was like the world's warehouse for the Amazon retail of the 1500s to the 1800s.
Manila Hotel is housed by the spirits of people who passed away centuries ago. You can feel it inside the elevator and the beds somehow would make you feel you the spirits sleep beside you

Okay, this comment is SO helpful! I always find we never quite get it right when we visit a place for the first time and then we get all these amazing comments sharing must-visit spots and pointing out all the things we missed, it means when we go back, we have so many new things to experience. It also means we usually end up having an even better visit the second time!! Thank you so much for sharing -if you have any other must-visit spots be sure to pop them in another comment so we can use them :)
