She probably didn't call the cops b/c she was worried about getting in trouble. But if she'd just stayed on the lighthouse she probably would have lived. It would have been a cold, miserable, lonely, traumatizing night. But she would have lived.

I grew up in that area and have boated out there many times. First, if it says "no trespassing, " don't trespass! There are many reasons why Sofia's body would not be found. Depending on the tide and currents she could have gotten swept out through the Race past Fisher's Island and eventually past Montauk, the next stop is Portugal. Sharks and other sea creatures could have disposed of the body. It's all very sad but I guess each new generation has to learn for themselves.

Roughly 2 months later & around 80 miles from where they think the boat was lost. Never found any trace of the boat either & it was sheer luck that they found the one of them as a cargo ship happened to spot the body floating.

I understand wanting to believe that someone caused these deaths and that Sofia is out there but I think that there's nothing more here than a terrible, terrible accident. There are so many things in bodies of water that Sofia could be caught on that has prevented her from being found. As others have pointed out, it's entirely possible they didn't call 911 for fear of getting in trouble and so naturally the next option would be her mom. I can't imagine either of them believed getting in the water would be deadly and as a result might not have been compelled to call 911 once Sofia's mom didn't answer.

In cold water bodies do not bloat ( float , swell up) they actually sink in cold water. Now, sea life, craps and other scavengers will take advantage of such things. As the water temps warm the body will start to decompose causing bloating and in water decomp is accelerated at a faster rate .

This is WEIRD. The boat drifts off, Spencer goes after it, starts drowning, alright - but then, Sofia's reaction is neither jumping into the water right away to help nor calling emergency, but calling her mother SEVEN times before she eventually gets into the water? That's an awful lot of time wasted ringing up while your friend is drowning - like, hang on there and don't drown just yet, I need to talk to my mom before I try to rescue you? This doesn't make any sense to me - you either act immediately, in which case there is no time for the calls, and if you do make those calls, Spencer would have drowned in between, hence no reason to get into the water...
It seems to me that those calls rather indicate a situation when Sofia knew herself to be in danger but was not under time pressure to save Spencer from drowning. I think their situation was more complicated, and heart-breaking, than that simple scenario.

an order of events that make more sense is that first, the boat drifts off, Spencer is ready to go after it, hands Sofia his phone and she starts calling her mom in an attempt to wake her up, maybe even trying to get advice?. while she's calling her mom, Spencer starts drowning, and it's then that Sofia in a panic goes after him?

Very sad story. They obviously drowned. Hypothermia will get you in very short order depending on your body flesh you will last 10 to 20 minutes before you lose the ability to move your arms and legs and eventually drown. I think the young woman is dead and her body has been snagged on something or washed out depending on tides. I think people should just accept that she is dead and try to get on with their life as best they can. RIP.

Growing up in Chicago my friends and I went around to tons of supposedly haunted places and experienced some pretty creepy stuff. Even in Connecticut we explored an abandoned asylum and even though I personally didn't pick up anything paranormal, everyone else did. The creepiest thing about that place was the incredibly long halls partitioned occasionally by those quintessential double doors with the big square windows. Something about a hospital layout is incredibly disturbing when it's abandoned.

But just because 3 bodies have been found it doesn't necessarily mean that the unforgiving Ocean will give up her body she may never be found who knows but one thing is certain this beautiful young lady is deceased no doubt about that .... RIP to all 4 victims of this tragedy ... God bless them all....love from UK x

I haven't finished the video yet but whenever you said that she had called her mother several times and then decided to jump into the water doesn't make any sense if she was jumping in the water to save him she wouldn't have been calling anyone she would have just jumped so the fact that she was calling someone ahead of time before she possibly jumped in meant that she had something to do with it it was probably trying to get advice from her mom on what she should do. Maybe not seeing a way around seeing jail time maybe that is why she jumped in or escaped and got away and went somewhere else. Like I said I haven't finished the video yet.

    • @no_peace
      @no_peace 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I suspect she was calling for urgent but not emergency help, probably because the boat came loose, and then something tragic happened before she could do anything else like text or call police or whoever. If I really needed help I would leave a voicemail but there are a lot of reasons it might not have been possible or practical in her case. I didn't set my voicemail up for like 4 years so no one could leave a message even if they wanted to

When you grow up around the water one of the first things you learn is not to get in cold water, the shock of diving in can kill you. The second is to not attempt a drowning rescue, as it’s likely you’ll both die. It’s so sad that Spencer likely tried to get their boat, he should have known better.

Highly unlikely she didn’t drown like the others. I can understand their believing she might still be alive, but I’m from that part of the country and tidal flows in and out, strong currants can easily be the reason her body was never recovered. They didn’t all drown in the same spot, so one body can be lost while another turns up. Sad story. If he had known how to secure the boat properly, might’ve turned out differently. Disclaimer! Not blaming, just point out a possibility.

    • @kirstywright5228

Impulse. I've chased after things that where stupid in hindsight or not worth it. It's the middle of the night, they where ready to go home and the boat starts to float. I presume they where just desperate to go home and immediately jumped in after the boat. It's a shame because they probably giggled about it at first, laughing at him going after the boat. The water is such a dangerously underated thing.

@@anhedonianepiphany5588 : well I'd agree about keeping it visually engaging, but in this case it might confuse some who don't know which light house image is the one in question. The actual image falls out of focus. And there are other images as well as the surrounding environs

If the wrong person "rescued" Sofia, she could have been trafficked. If so, it is unlikely she will ever be found. Most likely, she suffered the same fate as her friends...and there are many reasons that not every body is found. A drowning happened in the river nearest my home when I was little. Two brothers...one strong swimmer, one not so much. The body of the youngest was found days later, tangled in a trot line. The other was never found. Yet no one ever really stopped looking for him...every time anyone went out on the river, eyes were peeled for signs of Kevin...even as weeks, months, years went by... no trace was ever found.
