You just blew my mind with the simplest, but most genius of solutions. Thank you!! I’m definitely trying this 😁

Ok so I finished removing wallpaper and use this method to remove the glue. It it amazing! No glue at all on the wall even on render wall. It's so fast. I can't believe I spent that much time and effort on previous jobs. Cleaning vacuum took me literally 1 minute.

Just finished removing the glue from a large room using this technique. This technique worked great. I used a garden sprayer with a rechargeable pump system. No hand pumping. Put towels at base of wall and did about 3 cycles of wet/vacuum for each area. A lot less effort than hand wiping or scraping with drywall knife. Cleaning the shop vac was no issue at all. Thanks for the video.

I don't think getting glue in the shop vac is the greatest idea but it is creative and I'm glad it worked out for you.

Well I think if you gonna hose down glue from hose and vacuum cleaner it should be good. I'll try that next week and will see how it goes

I used an iron with steam and that worked very well. Little slow but it saved us a lot of chipping. The stuff we're taking on is from 1955 lol

Another tool I haven't got, and would probably only use a handful of times. Going to need a large barn in which to store them. My decorator said put lining paper on it. Simple.

I did this all by hand...washed & dried the wall twice using special soap for walls, and then had to paint with an oil sealer before reapplying water-based paint..all because the wallpaper started to lift at the seams..I hate wallpaper now with a passion!

Me too, only I'm only not close to done. It's been over two weeks of scraping etc. My hands and nails are destroyed. Hate it.

Not convinced by this. The vac used seemed to have a hell of a lot of power, far more than my one. Too I just wonder if you are transferring the problem from the walls to the vac. How do you then clean the hose etc out? I use the steamer and scraper method, it’s tedious but you get there eventually. Leaves bare plaster walls to which I give a coat of Zinsser Gardz to be on the safe side. The one certainty is that it puts you off wallpaper for life!

This method works great. Two scrubs and vac removed almost all the paste. Of course, with all the water, it made a mess on the vinyl floor, but the shop vac took that up as well. Saved me a lot of work. Thank you.

My stairwell has wallpaper removed that came off easily when pulled because it was dry and i can see swirls of dry paste.
Im wondering the best way to get it off considering i have to get a special ladder to do it

How do you get the glue out of the hose?

I have just viewed your video of using a vacuum to pull the wet glue from the drywall. Great idea - as I see it done. Since then, how has the wall and paint aged? Are you still satisfied with that and do you use it when you pull the paste adhesive off other walls?? Thanks, great video.

Moisten the glue paper with water (warm or cold, it doesn't matter) by either spraying it on or wiping it in with a towel....
..then use a heat gun, or a hair dryer. Moisten a section , let it set in and peel away.
We have used tap water with a clothes iron as well....
If you want to purchase a cheap bottle of clothes softener... fine. It helps (a little)....
But as a contractor/former painter, we just use water, let it soak in, and hit it with heat. Peels off easily.
*This is for those wise people that primed the walls first with latex or acrylic paint before applying the wallpaper. If the wallpaper was applied to raw sheetrock, with no primer.... good luck^

This did not work for me. My wet-dry vac could not achieve suction. This could be because my vacuum was under-powered or it might have been the slight texture on the wall. Just be aware that this might not work for you.

How long does it take you to clean all of the glue out of the hose and shop vac canister?

    • @warrensmithelburn
      @warrensmithelburn  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

just a quick rinse out, no more than when using it as a wet vac

Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. It did vacuum the wall dry, but there's was still lots of glue left on the wall. Dunno what I did wrong.

I would try Home Depot. www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-1-7-8-in-Wet-Nozzle-Accessory-for-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Shop-Vacuums-VT1710/100638361 I got mine at Sears years ago, but they are out of business
