They are in a process and we should wait for it to come. USA will come back soon and not to let Mexico represent CONCACAF because they always lose in the group stage or in semifinals and we were almost winning and beating Brazil at the final.
The loss of Charlie Davies after the car accident really hurt the USMNT. If he had the career he should have had USA would be contending more right now.
This is one of the most underreported stories in sports. I hope someday they will do a 30 for 30 on the UMSNT rise to relevance in the 2000s. It was really something to behold.
I always wondered what happened to Charlie Davies I first saw him in the Mexico game they played in the Azteca stadium in 2009 But after that it’s like he disappeared He looked like a very agile player Could have been helped a lot in the 2010 WC

USA is a great country. Although football (or soccer) is not among the most popular sports there, they still go to World Cup most of the times, and they do well. I really love the spirit and enthusiasm of their playing style!
it's growing and it's growing fast! Some teams have an average of 22,000 fans a game! That's more than NBA and NHL (even though i love hockey. go wings!) average games.
Not when you compare it to European leagues where teams like Manchester United average around 76,000 a game. Even most of the teams in the English Championship average more than that
we bossed Ramos, Iniesta, Torres, Pique, Villa, etc. like nothing. The announcer John Harkes shows his "US Soccer doubt" ( sometimes confused w/Eurosnob ) that we all show at times, when he says "Luck" two times on Altidore's goal. No luck about it. People need to believe in US Soccer. We can be a global power in football.
Very true, the bias is definitely there and has always been there. However, this is a country of 300 million and a country that produces superstars on the regular in all sports that they hold dear. It's a very athletic nation, and with the dramatic rise of popularity in soccer, it is inevitable that the USA will be elite one day. I feel like it just needs one superstar to make the push for the future generations. Just one. Doesn't need to be a Messi or Ronaldo, but a Fabregas would do.
***** First of all, the confederations cup is a legitimate international and inter-continental tournament. It's second to the World Cup. The USA didn't boss Spain, but they did beat Spain far more than Ghana beat the USA. Ghana aren't a bad team. Never have been. But if you ever paid any attention Ghana beat the USA twice by 1 goal after a vicious back and forth battle. They "slid by" is a more appropriate term. And why don't you take this as a compliment. Yes, Americans were exceptionally happy to beat the best team of all time. Isn't that a compliment to you? If the opponent is really excited about beating your team? And the USA will one day be one of the best, it's inevitable. Maybe it's in 30 years, maybe it's in 15. We will see. In the American player pool there's far more promise than ever before, but still we're not quite there yet.
***** well africans can win the world cup as much as USA and any other team, some teams may have a better chance but that doesn't mean it's impossible to win, all of the strong teams have been eliminated in the first round at some point, what will happen? we'll find out in june (my favorites are spain and brazil but if they lose it won't stop me from enjoying the game)
This is arguably our best USMNT team ever. Prime Donovan, prime Dempsey, young Bradley and Altidore before they got lazy, Gooch, Holden and Davies before injuries ruined them shortly before the WC. I'm confident that without those 3 key guys getting injured we would've beaten Ghana in in the round of 16. Maybe even Uruguay in the quarters.
Nah your strongest was during 2002 world cup. It just doesn't make sense. You guys made it to the quarter finals in 2002 yet you guys never did anything after all. 16 years later and didn't even qualified to Russia' 18. Its like you guys went worse and instead of better.
@@relentero8547 That doesn't change that the US has regressed since. And México should have had been awarded a penalty due to a handball in the round of 16 against the US. Unfortunately bad referee calls are part of the game.
This comment is still true today. The 2009 USMNT is perhaps the best ever. In 2010, with Davies, it would have been a whole other story. Ghana's game could have been won, and even the Uruguay's one just after. Well, the story would have probably ended in semi final against the Netherlands, but hey what a ride it could have been !
@@hulucthulu8577 A penalty wouldn’t have overturned a 2-1 loss. We have regressed sadly, even our so called “golden generation” today would’ve been destroyed by our 2002 team.
***** Ehh, I dunno about Mexico being thought of as a joke, they just have bad luck in the knockout round of the World Cup, the rest of the world generally respects them. USA's problem is that there wasn't much resources for football (soccer, whatever) there until the '90s and still carry the stereotype that the team is just a bunch of part timers who weren't good enough for the NFL. That's not the way I see it, I'm just sayin'.
***** China has 2 billion people. What's your point? To create great players, countries have to first have the soccer culture. Kids have to want to play soccer constantly. Second, the coaching at youth levels needs to be very, very high. Third, the resources need to be there. The size also can act detrimental if you cannot find the best talents. This is what say, Portugal has, and the USA didn't. Up until 1994, the USA had no league and were playing with college kids with no legitimate training. It's been a building process ever since. As of the last 5 years, American kids are pretty invested in the sport. MLS teams have created systems to scout the 300 million people and try to locate these "gems" and train them in academies. This is how Europe does it, but MLS has a far larger margin to work with, which will now work in the Americans favor. Similarly, with the rise in popularity and coaching, more Americans than ever before have been yanked to elite academies. As of this year, it is purported that 70 million Americans now enjoy soccer, which skyrocketed as of even 5 years ago (when nobody cared). If a college kid by the name of Clint Dempsey managed to be that successful, imagine what kids who are actually trained appropriately will be able to do in the coming years.
***** Oh man, I'm convinced now you're trolling. So I'll make this quick: This is a very rapid rise in popularity, far faster than any sort of immigration pattern. I'm not one to point out horrific arguments but that was one. Every nation plays with dual nationals buddy. If the dual nationals couldn't play for countries, then they're pretty much ousted from anything. The US operates as a team. Hence the term "the sum is greater than the individuals" which was coined for the 2014 World Cup in regards to the USA. I'm not speaking with you about politics. "Promotes cooperation"... cute. But your involvement with politics in a soccer conversation is precisely what exposed you as biased troll.
***** Haha man you are such a hater. I'm not even going to respond to you. You need to go and educate yourself about the world because your die hard hatred for the USA is very unhealthy. I mean, we're talking about soccer and you're trying to progress it into politics instead. Seriously man, go enjoy life.
***** It is the acronym invented by the English for the full name of the sport called Association Football. The English invented this sport, and thus progressed to nickname it soccer. It was the appropriate term to be called for awhile, and they introduced much of the world to it as soccer, including the USA. Only later did they change it to football which is now what most of the world calls it. Yet both are completely accurate terms and if we're being technical, soccer came first.
it will be interesting to see where the USA is in soccer in another 10-20 years..i think they will be quite good. soccer is growing in USA. i think for being a country where soccer is like the 5th most popular sport playing against countries where soccer is THE sport..they do pretty damn good
If it follows the route of US population trends, which will be 30% hispanic by 2050, then I would expect a lot of latinized last names to be starting on US rosters. More kids are growing up in homes of immigrant parents raised in soccer crazed countries. If 30% of our population are born soccer maniacs, you better believe that the media will pound coverage of soccer in the coming years, which will in turn boost US soccer enthusiasm beyond Latinos and preexisting soccer fans.
We have a few dual nationals out there that, depending on their choice of preference for the team and development, could boost the USA to new heights in the next 4 years. This was something that was unimaginable 4 years ago. Hopefully they choose the USA but we will see. There's a growing trend of players being dual nationals world wide and having to make a tough decision. The USA's bases in other countries and the immigration rates to the USA definitely help.
Thomas Price There's already some hispanics in the youth system but there's others too. Such as Aron Johannsson, Icelandic heritage, Fabian Johnson - German etc. We have Villareal who is hispanic, Diego Fagundez who is South American, and a few others. But there's a ton of everything else as well. The popularity of the sport is actually exceptionally high right now, much higher than anticipated. I have the stats, it's the 2nd most popular sport between the ages of 12-24.
soccer still seems to take a back seat to football, basketball, and prolly baseball as well. i think were seeing and will continue to see black and white kids look to play soccer more as well as hispanics. its only a matter of time we get our messi or c ronaldo
casey tyler Technically, almost nobody ever has a Messi or Ronaldo. I don't see one of those in our near future, but there might be an elite player coming up soon. We have a few that have that much potential. We will see. When looking at soccer's progression in the last 3 years, I can tell you some facts: 1) It's the 2nd most popular sport in the USA between the ages of 12-24 2) Lionel Messi became the first soccer player to be in the top 10 most popular athletes in the USA. Between 12-24, he's in 3rd place. And then Ronaldo joins the top 10 at 7th. This is the same list that includes Jordan as #1, meaning as far as active athletes go, Messi's the 2nd most popular among the youth. 3) NBC purchased the rights to all EPL games because there was demand for it. 4) The MLS outsells the NBA ticket wise. 5) FIFA is the #1 sports game in the USA ever since FIFA 10 So in the past 3 years, the USA has seen an absolutely dramatic rise in popularity for the sport. Although the older people don't commit, the younger seem to really enjoy the sport. So you're right, it's only a matter of time when that gem in the dust emerges from the USA. And more than likely, there will be multiple.
i remember this game so well at my friend's apartment i told him let me watch it and he said ok and he saw me acting a fool everytime USA scored and when i saw the final score deep down inside of me i was crying because everything about USA is so negative at times but to pull that win off showed that they can compete with the best when they are focused and ready
I was never much into watching soccer as a kid... until this game. This got me into the sport and made me a lifelong USMNT fan. Lets go and shock the world again this fall.
Daniel Moreno Lol, do you actually believe that? Why don't you try reaching a semi final before claiming you have a better chance of winning the whole thing
Eric Bee That brit kid you're talking to is literally in every (and I mean EVERY) USMNT related video. He is so butthurt mad and frustrated that America is more relevant than England in soccer/football that he has to somehow VALIDATE his irrelevant shit NT in every USMNT video Lol. Don't give that no-life attention.
Ebeneezer stark why don't england try reaching the semi final? the last time they did that was 1990. in fact, the only time they did that apart from the time they won it was in 1990.
izdatsumcp Lol, '' the only time they did that apart from the time they won it was in 1990'' that sounds so arrogant comming from an American. We've won the world cup as many times as you've reached a semi final. And that was in 1930, when all you really did was get out of the group. There were hardly any teams back then so they had to skip the Round of 16 and the Quarter final. So much for semi final lol You've been to a Quarter final once in your whole countries existence lol

Ebeneezer stark England is considered a power house,so some say, while USA is barely scratching the surface in terms of quality. Its expected for England to do damage but they fail. Mean while USA has outperformed them in back to back world cups. So,take your shots all you want but the fact is England are frauds. I know it hurts but im sure you're a reasonable person with an open mind to criticism/truth.
The best US team in history. Second best would be Klinsmann in 2014, after he got us out of a 'group of death' to lose only 2-1 to a stacked Belgium in the World Cup Ro16.
As an Englishman, I always loved the spirit the US team showed back in those days. Far from the most talented, but they played for their nation, something the England’s supposed golden generation never once did.
I think the current england side has promise. They went far in WC2018. I think they’ll have a good run in the euro tournament. Im a good-for-nothing yank and our team has made drastic improvements after we missed the WC. But i still think we need more work.
The premier league is more important to English players and the rivalries in the premier hurt the English national team cause some those guys truly hate each other
What I love about the teams form years past - - such a collective, underdog spirit - - 2009, especially 2004 and 2006. Not the best talent, but such grit/desire. Miss those days.
the world froze when USA beat Spain. That will go down as one of the top 10 Soccer upsets in FIFA history and pretty much the #1 upset in Confederation cup history
***** You're such a bitter winner. Instead of being happy and proud of your team you have to put down a team that accomplished such a great feat. LOSER.
***** Hahahaha Pablo, you are so happy with your 1 world cup. You act as if Spain has always been a power house. Wow dude! Come talk to me when you have 5 like Brasil.
Am I wrong for loving that it was Ramos who teed it up for Dempsey? How did he not know he was there, he ran back to cover him! Twas a glorious day for US Soccer.
sooner or later we'll be one of the top football yes i said football countries in the world. maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but one day. Each and every day this sport is growing in the US. The MLS is expanding and growing in popularity, and it's the most played sport among kids in the country. you may not like it but it's going to happen.
As a US soccer fan, I watch this whenever I want to get mad. US soccer was on the come up. We thought that we were gonna be doing big things in 10 years. Fast forward 10 years, were not even in the World Cup for the first time since the 80s. I’m bitter
I remember this match, Spain was far better than Usa but they couldn't score at all, so Usa took advantage of that and they scored with counter attacks
Yes, obviously Spain was much better. It's just that they gave up two goals and didn't score any. But if you overlook those two things Spain dominated.
netjunkie9 that's how spain plays or use to i dunno, they play to control the ball and try to score and mantain that score by controling the ball.... if you kill their key players they can't go into your defense.. so USA did their job is not that spain just failed all by themselves...
xavi123ify That was our style then, and we were quite good at it :). However I'd like to see us progress into a possession dominating team. It seems like that may be the case with our younger generations but I'll believe it when I see it.
No one denies Spain is number one right now dude. But the fact the US beat Spain that made us feel good about ourselves. We almost beat Brazil in final too
Those few years seemed to be a good cycle for the US. Solid defensively but a little pedestrian when on the front foot. IMHO the current generation seems faster and more creative, however not sold on their defending. Think we need to develop a couple of beasts for CBs to help cover as our current GK is not as talented as what we had then.
We the USA have the american football league (NFL), Canada has the Canadian football league, and Europe also has european football leagues... I love both sports soccer and football !
The football world hates the USA cause 25 years ago there was no national team now were ranked in the top 15 and have some marquee wins like this one against a full strength spanish team suck it world in 10 years we'll have a top 5 team we aint going anywhere
fifa rankings don't mean anything. usa played really well this game but do you really think that if they played each other at their best this result would be the same???
spain was an excellent team, i really dont know what happened, our goalie (Casillas) is like the best goalie in the world but he sucked against netherlands. Spain won 2008 euro, 2010 cup, and 2012 euro so idk what happened
It's simple, the generation was too old and Spain's way of play was found out and broken. It was simple. Park the bus and just hope for a counter attack. That's how Spain's Tiki-Taka tactic was broken. It was too predictable. USA had found the formula first and it took a while for people to find out. It took 3 years for Chelsea to break this tactic again but this time vs Barca. To add to that, many of the Spain generation got old and weren't in their prime anymore. Xavi got old, Casillas wasn't in his prime anymore. Pique was missing Puyol too much, and Ramos didn't get enough help from Pique. Busquets seemed very lost with a depleted Xavi and an Iniesta who couldn't connect well with Xavi. The striker(Diego Costa) didn't fit the system well and well the wingers weren't really originally wingers. Spain just wasn't go through many good things that summer.
We are going to get past the round of 16 in 2018. We frankly should have beaten Belgium last year, Wondo missed the easiest chance of the game. Within probably the next 5-6 world cups, I bet we will win one.
SkiDaBird I think we were on the back foot the majority of that game, as we often are vrs. quality teams. Poaching a lucky goal while being dominated isn't soccer bona fides.
+SkiDaBird As much as I liked the US squad at WC2014, Belgium totally deserved to win that match. The US got an unfortunate road, the hardest Group and a team that was among the 5 best in that tournament(my opinion) at round 16.
I mean he was offside anyway. We also were absolutely dominated by Belgium. Howard deserved to beat Belgium not the rest of the team due to how poorly we played
DPwnzz Mexico doesn't have a mother country, its not filled with immigrants mexico's indigenous people are still well alive, and a majority of mexico's people have indigenous blood. Mexico isn't like the usa where most of its roots came from england. Shit do you guys not know your history.
***** wtfk? Mexico doesn't have a mother country? wow wow let me tell you somthing dumass Why Mexicans speak spanish? because spain, why the majority of mexicas are from catholic church? because spain, and most of mexicans are mestizos spanish- indigenous people, fuck then you come here to say that Mexico donst have a mother country... and i will tell you something USA dont have natives becuase Engalnd kill most of the natives in the usa, in Mexico spain cant figth agaist all those mexican aztec wariors,, men the education you are saying the others need, is the education you need sorry
CreArq Edgar You're not only an idiot but you can't form a proper sentence, Mexico wasn't a wasteland filled with nothing, no the natives still live in Mexico always have and always will, if the country still has some or a majority of what was there before the spanish then no they don't have a mother country, Its people like you that think mexico never had any native americans, and that the spanish were the only people there. If there was something there before the spanish and it still thrives today than that means what was known as Mexico (even though it wasn't really mexico) was already independent meaning that spain is not a mother country. Also you're so fucking wrong about the england killing the natives part. Are you fucking dumb? England wanted to prevent the colonists from moving further into the indian territory. Also you do realize the genocide of the natives started after the english were kicked out? smh
Face it, guys. No matter how many times we beat big teams like Spain, we will never get respect. We could win 5 World Cups in a row and not get any respect. Simply because we're americans.
I wouldn't go that far. We won't get the respect until we once again cause massive damage at a World Cup. I say once again referring to 2002. I hear from many Europeans would give us credit if we advanced passed this specific group. However, there will still be plenty of haters. The USA winning one World Cup would ruin that though. However that likely won't happen soon. But advancing out of this group and making a strong run would gain the USA respect.
***** I was being hypothetical when I said the "5 world cups" thing. But even if it happened, nobody will respect us. I don't understand why we get so much hate. I mean come on. I don't see anyone hating on Canada's team. Is it because they aren't the USA? I don't see anyone hating on Andorra's or San Marino's.
***** listen. I'm trying to be nice here. You are here being rude. Football is meant to bring the world together. Don't you get that? I could care less about how many world cups your country may have won. I dont see you talking shit about canada's team. Or even san marino's
***** You are being rude. Perhaps the USA won't win the WC in 2014, but there's always a chance. Here's some facts for you: The USA ruined Spain's winning streak by beating them 2-0 in the Confederations Cup, this USA team is stronger than that team, no European team has ever won the World Cup in the Americas, survivors of the groups of death almost always go very far in the World Cup, and Jose Mourinho tipped the USA to causing some upsets.
***** im not like that actually ***** that really isn't an insult. Keep in mind that you also have been spotted hating on italy's team as i have seen it on your profile. Keep in mind, italy has produced some of the world's best players like Baggio, Zola, Totti, cannavaro. And has won 4 world cups. I'm perfectly aware the US won't win one real soon. I admit that. But your ignorance shows that you are not a real football fan. Just a troll and a hooligan.
Yes, where I live in the Dallas area, there are lots of fans. Dallas has some of the best youth soccer in the country and a lot of professional club support too.
Klinsmann was great. He brought in more overseas talent, used more players who played in Europe instead of relying on mls guys which still isn't on par and he understood our football culture needed to change if we wanted to be among the best. We were improving under Klinsmann. I would bet you any money that we'd be in the WC if he wasn't fired.
I think people fail to notice that the US has the best athletes in the world. Once the whole country follows soccer we will be dominate just like in Baseball, basketball and oh yeah... Soccer! Our women's team is already the best. Mark my words, with the American drive and spirit God will be proud of the players made here. I just pray we keep God first and everyone will too
Hahahaha hahahha. Calm down silly United statian you'll be good but European and South American teams are way too advanced in football than the USA in a technical aspect.
davinalopez2134 Well a decade ago the USA skyrocketed in ability and hasn't stopped. Before 1994, the USA never made the World Cup. Come 2002, the USA did exceptional in the World Cup, and although we haven't matched it, our players have become significantly better since and it keeps rising. It's not a ridiculous claim.
It is not easy to get a world cup title with so many competition. But it may happen. Avery team that has won it. They had to won the 1st. So usa can get the first with time
To compare such a young (He's only 22 I think) player to his self of three years ago is completely ridiculous. Though you do bring up a valid point about his disappearance in big games in the past, I'd like to point to the fact that his finishing has dramatically improved. He's more confident, accurate, and all around more complete as a finisher than he was even last year. Just watch how he played for AZ Alkmaar. This kid's the next big thing for USA. I implooore you to give him another shot
The Broadcast network type is the default for an OSPF enabled ethernet interface (while Point-to-Point is the default OSPF network type for Serial interface with HDLC and PPP encapsulation).
And actually we've declined in recent years in status, but in the big picture we've become a team not to take lightly. For example, US had Germany on their heels in the 2002 world cup quarters, but they blew all their chances (and weren't given a penalty on a clear hand ball) that resulted in only a 1-0 loss.
We need soccer to receive more media attention. This will then spark interest in the sport. Kids will grow up loving soccer and learning the skills necessary on their own just like the great Football nations of the world have.
we'll see about that statement in the future years... our younger generations are getting more and more into this sport... im 18 and i can tell you over my years of playing competitive soccer (yes i call it soccer DEAL WITH IT) throughout my youth it keeps getting bigger and bigger and it keeps getting more and more competitive
Its so funny to think how huge this win was for the U.S and now, if the younger squad we have, went out and beat the best team in the world, it would be big of course but nowhere near the level it was in 2009. And thats a GOOD thing, a sure sign of progress.
This is why soccer is so damn exciting. The UNDERDOGS! Underdogs always have something to prove when its an International game because you're representing your country. It's not the same with our American football or whatever. This is what makes me smile.
This was our elite team in 2009 who beat spain who was ranked 1st in the world & at that moment they were on a winning world record. Then almost beating brazil in the final. Too bad the year after injuries took out 2 very important players for the world cup. Sad to say i don't think I'll be seeing a u.s.a team as good as 2009 sooner or later.
Thank you! I don't know what he said but the USA team gets a lot of disrespect so I really appreciate your comment. At this moment we're doing better than ever which is very good and shows progress because it's without our best player so I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can do when he's reintroduced in the upcoming WCQ's. Can I ask you a question? What do you think of Jozy Altidore and how do you think he'll fair at Sunderland? Giaccherini should help in my opinion.
Obviously you haven't been watching the games lately. Altidore is playing ridiculously good. He has already scored 7 goals this year for USA. He scored 31 goals last season for his club team. There is a reason why Edson Buddle has only played 11 times in his entire career for USA, and he is already 32 years old.
Honestly soccer/football (whatever I call it both) where I live in Texas is becoming increasingly popular. Especially youth teams and high school which is we're it starts. US soccer is on its way.
In the gold cup final when we lost to Mexico, we played our D team defense. We've been improving greatly in football (soccer) and that's not gonna stip
The Dynamo have a huge following. They recently built a brand new stadium. Houston has a lot of fans especially the Latinos. Dynamo games are always fun. Not to mention they are pretty good too.
I think MLS is doing just fine in its development. Of course it's not premier league level, but the quality of play and the excitement is at an all time high. I'm from L.A., and I preffer to watch the Kansas City team because there probably the team that best replicates the European playing style, and there coach is European. I think we're growing at the proper rate, and now with the youth league we hope to produce some future stars.
I love the US, but after Landon Donovan left, the quality went down. Thankfully football is gaining ground in the US and the US will produce a star soon. In the mean time, I will settle with the US women's football team being the best in the world.
Of course we need to become more technical on the ball and we're evolving to that style of play slowly. But we'll always rely on our athleticism bc that's always a strength that we'll have, no matter what players we choose.
The USMNT may not be a legendary team, but they've had legendary moments.
miss that US squad!!!!... they played with heart till the end.
Did they all die?
@@KaitainCPS Sadly, after the game the team's bus rode off a ravine. There were no survivors.

it's growing and it's growing fast! Some teams have an average of 22,000 fans a game! That's more than NBA and NHL (even though i love hockey. go wings!) average games.
USA doesn't have the most skilled players but they win because of fight and determination.
Erik Morales 22,000 a game isn't that great tbh
Stu Wildey league wide it is. MLS has the 6th highest attendance in the world.
Not when you compare it to European leagues where teams like Manchester United average around 76,000 a game. Even most of the teams in the English Championship average more than that
One of the greatest upsets in football history change my mind
we bossed Ramos, Iniesta, Torres, Pique, Villa, etc. like nothing. The announcer John Harkes shows his "US Soccer doubt" ( sometimes confused w/Eurosnob ) that we all show at times, when he says "Luck" two times on Altidore's goal. No luck about it. People need to believe in US Soccer. We can be a global power in football.
Im from the UK and I agree with you. I hate the way people stereotype the US. USA national soccer team have shown some great performances in the past.
James Guy *football
I'm an american and had to tell someone from the UK to call it football. What has this world gone to? lol
I can't believe this was five years ago. This is the game that forever changed my perspective on us soccer
Are you still there?
@@hulucthulu8577 We should’ve been in the semis. German handball on goal line not called.
USA did that in 2009??? against Spain??? and still no respect today??
*****
Ehh, I dunno about Mexico being thought of as a joke, they just have bad luck in the knockout round of the World Cup, the rest of the world generally respects them.
So I'll make this quick:
This is a very rapid rise in popularity, far faster than any sort of immigration pattern.
When looking at soccer's progression in the last 3 years, I can tell you some facts:
1) It's the 2nd most popular sport in the USA between the ages of 12-24
2) Lionel Messi became the first soccer player to be in the top 10 most popular athletes in the USA.
5) FIFA is the #1 sports game in the USA ever since FIFA 10
So in the past 3 years, the USA has seen an absolutely dramatic rise in popularity for the sport. Although the older people don't commit, the younger seem to really enjoy the sport. So you're right, it's only a matter of time when that gem in the dust emerges from the USA. And more than likely, there will be multiple.
Spain was unbeaten in 35 games which had tied the existing record held by Brazil. They thought they were going to set the new record...
Nope the US came in 😈
@@ifiwantyoutofeel Spain won a bigger prize the year after.. this loss didn't hurt them
i remember this game so well at my friend's apartment i told him let me watch it and he said ok and he saw me acting a fool everytime USA scored and when i saw the final score deep down inside of me i was crying because everything about USA is so negative at times but to pull that win off showed that they can compete with the best when they are focused and ready
I was never much into watching soccer as a kid... until this game. This got me into the sport and made me a lifelong USMNT fan. Lets go and shock the world again this fall.
bros really defeated superprime spain
USA is not a easy team, they deserve respect, they can beat a big team when they play well
@Gatubiuz They literally just beat the best team in the world in this video.
@Gatubiuz At least you won the World Cup.
The U.S have a higher chance of winning a World Cup before England can win their second.
Ebeneezer stark why don't england try reaching the semi final? the last time they did that was 1990. in fact, the only time they did that apart from the time they won it was in 1990.
izdatsumcp Lol, '' the only time they did that apart from the time they won it was in 1990''
that sounds so arrogant comming from an American. We've won the world cup as many times as you've reached a semi final. And that was in 1930, when all you really did was get out of the group. There were hardly any teams back then so they had to skip the Round of 16 and the Quarter final. So much for semi final lol
You've been to a Quarter final once in your whole countries existence lol
Ebeneezer stark
England is considered a power house,so some say, while USA is barely scratching the surface in terms of quality.
No the best was 2002's WC, prime Mcbride, Prime Kobi, Prime Sanneh, Prime O'Brian, Prime Friedel, an emerging Donovan, amd emerging Beasley
The future of US football is getting brighter and brighter.
What's great is Spain would go on to win the World Cup next year.
The premier league is more important to English players and the rivalries in the premier hurt the English national team cause some those guys truly hate each other
Remember this like it was yesterday
Id like to be around the day the US wins the world cup. They did well at last years
1 win out of 4 games played is well?
Junior considering the group they were in I think so lol.
Bradley Watkins They were actually rather terrible in their last world cup.
*****
That was their mangers choice. Hardly ann excuse
Ebeneezer stark donovan was the manegers choice, altidore got injured
What I love about the teams form years past - - such a collective, underdog spirit - - 2009, especially 2004 and 2006. Not the best talent, but such grit/desire. Miss those days.
the world froze when USA beat Spain. That will go down as one of the top 10 Soccer upsets in FIFA history and pretty much the #1 upset in Confederation cup history
Who would have thunk it. We beat European and World cup champions.
***** You're such a bitter winner. Instead of being happy and proud of your team you have to put down a team that accomplished such a great feat. LOSER.
*****
Hahahaha Pablo, you are so happy with your 1 world cup. You act as if Spain has always been a power house. Wow dude! Come talk to me when you have 5 like Brasil.
And Germany 3, hopefully 4 soon
Germany will have 4 on Sunday.
Well at the moment they were soon to be world cup champions but man i remember seeing that game it was a beautiful experience..
what a time to be alive!
Am I wrong for loving that it was Ramos who teed it up for Dempsey? How did he not know he was there, he ran back to cover him! Twas a glorious day for US Soccer.
Back when US Soccer had a great mentality and played with great grit and belief. Hopefully this new generation can learn from the USMNT of 2009-2010
sooner or later we'll be one of the top football yes i said football countries in the world. maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but one day. Each and every day this sport is growing in the US. The MLS is expanding and growing in popularity, and it's the most played sport among kids in the country. you may not like it but it's going to happen.
Spain was undefeated for years before this game
As a US soccer fan, I watch this whenever I want to get mad. US soccer was on the come up. We thought that we were gonna be doing big things in 10 years. Fast forward 10 years, were not even in the World Cup for the first time since the 80s. I’m bitter
Jeremy Hayes go back to europe,South America or Africa
I remember this match, Spain was far better than Usa but they couldn't score at all, so Usa took advantage of that and they scored with counter attacks
Yeah it wasn't that USA was just the better team that day or anything like that. Yeesh, talk about a sore loser.
***** You dont understand sarcasm -.-
xavi123ify That was our style then, and we were quite good at it :). However I'd like to see us progress into a possession dominating team. It seems like that may be the case with our younger generations but I'll believe it when I see it.
No one denies Spain is number one right now dude.
But the fact the US beat Spain that made us feel good about ourselves. We almost beat Brazil in final too
the US Youth Soccer programs, especially ODP and RPL leagues are really accelerating the US' growth in the world in football/soccer
When USA actually played very good almost had that confederation cup, congrats to USA
They beat a top notch Spain team. My hats of to 🇺🇸 .
Need this type of attitude and aggressiveness for the Copa America!
Those moments I keep on coming back to
We the USA have the american football league (NFL), Canada has the Canadian football league, and Europe also has european football leagues... I love both sports soccer and football !
This might be the biggest US soccer win in my lifetime. I'm 36
At their best, the United States can compete with anyone.
Anyone except Panama.
Except brazil
The football world hates the USA cause 25 years ago there was no national team now were ranked in the top 15 and have some marquee wins like this one against a full strength spanish team suck it world in 10 years we'll have a top 5 team we aint going anywhere
fifa rankings don't mean anything. usa played really well this game but do you really think that if they played each other at their best this result would be the same???
Hanzo Hasashi
spain wasnt at their best? i see their best players on that pitch.
Snøwz by an offside goal vs Holland
The greatest US victory, ever!
Man I remember taking an EXTRA long lunch to watch this match....glad I did. Nothing will ever make me happier than the USMNT.
Ok, after this 2014 World Cup can we say Spain is washed up? Thoughts? Opinions? Counter thoughts?
spain was an excellent team, i really dont know what happened, our goalie (Casillas) is like the best goalie in the world but he sucked against netherlands.
Spain downplay the USA and the USA outplay Spain 1:28 how embarrassed Ramos is. USMNT are awesome. See you guys in Brazil next year. Go USA.
how did that work out for usa
fairplay381 lololol you thought also that was prove it was a fluke
We are going to get past the round of 16 in 2018. We frankly should have beaten Belgium last year, Wondo missed the easiest chance of the game. Within probably the next 5-6 world cups, I bet we will win one.
SkiDaBird It's really hard to predict, keep in mind we're no the only nations getting better.
SkiDaBird I think we were on the back foot the majority of that game, as we often are vrs. quality teams. Poaching a lucky goal while being dominated isn't soccer bona fides.
+SkiDaBird Why should they have beaten belgium??? Belgium probably feels they should have won that match like 5-0
+SkiDaBird As much as I liked the US squad at WC2014, Belgium totally deserved to win that match.
1-0 Jozy Altidore (27 min)
2-0 Clint Dempsey (74 min)
Yes, but this was a BIG shock and no one can deny that the USA played extremely well in this game!
Dos a Cero to Mexico's mother country
This is Spain vs usa idiot .
Mexico doesn't have a mother country like the usa, please get an education. smh
***** im not like that actually
***** that really isn't an insult.
USA from concacaf destroyed the whole Spain's football squad from UEFA
Yeah you guys never want a world cup.
This us soccer team was scary good I hope they keep improving more and more I like how they look lately
Yes, where I live in the Dallas area, there are lots of fans. Dallas has some of the best youth soccer in the country and a lot of professional club support too.
if the we the US can beat Portugal on the 22nd and Germany on the 26th, I'd say we have a huge shot at winning this one
Germany is taking all 9pts sorry
lolnope
Technologic I'm as big a USMNT fan as there is, but if Germany want 9 points, they will have 9 points.
Thank you and exactly
lolnope
Spain just cannot win a confederations cup lollll
I think they prefer world cups.
they won a worl cup dumbass hahaha..fukin idiot
+SpaceColonies That's beside the point. They brought their best players in 2009 and 2013 couldn't win either tournament.
@@mexicano9091 they won the world cup. The confederations cup isn't even important to the point it's now defunct
My dad is the goalie coach
For what team
+Alexis Estrada for the USA his name is zak Abdel
This is the match that made me a strong supporter of the U.S. soccer team. I still remember it as if it were yesterday.
2nd best era I’ve seen the USMNT in after ‘02 WC. Big Mexico fan by the way.
US soccer made a step backwards thanks to that imposter Klinsmann.Greetings from Germany.
Lol we were the first to counter the "tiki-taka"/Total Fotball technique of spain.
no they werent hahaha
No we werent wtf
Bradley's tactics WERE widely studied by those looking to counter tiki-taka.
Amen Usa
yea right, ive been hearing that for over a decade
davinalopez2134 Well a decade ago the USA skyrocketed in ability and hasn't stopped. Before 1994, the USA never made the World Cup. Come 2002, the USA did exceptional in the World Cup, and although we haven't matched it, our players have become significantly better since and it keeps rising. It's not a ridiculous claim.
Hell no, the best USA squad ever will always be the 2002 one. They almost beat Germany in the quarterfinals.
This is the USMNT's finest hour. I can only hope in the future we have more moments as glorious as this.
This right here is the USA team I miss
USA haves to win the world cup
Yeah :')
***** Nope. We are superior.
It is not easy to get a world cup title with so many competition. But it may happen. Avery team that has won it. They had to won the 1st. So usa can get the first with time
tulio J. cosma It's true
***** We are speaking of Football/Soccer. You're crazy, bro.
i remember watching this game while i was visiting spain. awesome night.
Most underrated upset of all time. In 2 days this upset will be 15 years old.
You knew if this team scored first, game was over. Their defense was impeccable.
The Broadcast network type is the default for an OSPF enabled ethernet interface (while Point-to-Point is the default OSPF network type for Serial interface with
HDLC and PPP encapsulation).
This game, to this day, gives me the feels. What a tournament. The fight and desire, that’s the US way. 🇺🇸🤙🏽
maybe the biggest victory of the us national soccer team, this game or the 2-0 vs México in 2002
This USA team was great
we'll see about that statement in the future years... our younger generations are getting more and more into this sport... im 18 and i can tell you over my years of playing competitive soccer (yes i call it soccer DEAL WITH IT) throughout my youth it keeps getting bigger and bigger and it keeps getting more and more competitive
Who’s here after their draw with England?
If only Pulisic’s shot went in.
Giaccherini should help in my opinion.
no matter what people say the u.s is improving and i would not doubt it if they managed to become one of the best national soccer team out there.
Im ready for them to win it all this year! Those MLS guys have been making me very pleased. GO BECKERMAN, RIMANDO, AND BELTRAN! USA :)
Remember watching this vid… when I was first getting into soccer and TH-cam
Can't wait to see Pulisac develop. Hopefully he doesn't become another Freddy Adu...
Wow!
@@brohan914 hi
Dempsey's goal is LITERALLY one of the greatest US goals of all time, easily. his "Awareness" is really high!
If soccer were the number 1 sport in the US from the beginning (late 1800s), the US would have won 6 of the 21 World Cups
Probably my favorite memory for us soccer. The win also guaranteed at least 2nd place finish
Of course we need to become more technical on the ball and we're evolving to that style of play slowly. But we'll always rely on our athleticism bc that's always a strength that we'll have, no matter what players we choose.
