A very evocative piece. Back in the 1970s, my country was great friends with The People’s Republic of China. They built the high power transmitters to relay the Radio Peking transmissions to Europe, the western parts of the USSR, North Africa as well as the countries of the near and Middle East. The transmitter site was situated at a place called Shijak, situated between Tirana and Durres. Our own international radio station Radio Tirana also used the same transmitter site, and in fact had one of the most powerful transmitters in service anywhere in the world back then. The same transmitters are still used by Radio Tirana today, as well as other post Communist stations. Ironically back in the 70s and early 80s the Soviets used to ‘jam’ the Radio Tirana transmissions in Russian, so much for socialist solidarity! The Communist era Radio Tirana interval signal was taken from an old Albanian partisan tune called ‘With a pick axe in one hand, and a Rifle in the other’ It all seems a very long time ago now.
Thanks! I listened to Radio Tirana on 1390 Khz Broadcast Band. I was stationed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany form 1983 to 1987. I was intrigued at the changes made after Enver Hoxha died.
Could hear Radio Tirana on 1390 Khz in the UK for around 3 hours in the evening, a Dutch Jazz station shared the same frequency but didn't broadcast when Radio Tirana was on from 1900 to 2200 British Time

I remember at least before 1982 (or even later) China National Radio (CNR, 中央人民广播电台 Zhongyang Renmin Guangbo Diantai) has been using the full interval signal for all its stations. Before 1 May 1978, China National Radio, Radio Peking and China Central Television (Then Peking Television) were not fully divided; all belonged to the Central Broadcasting Affairs Bureau of China (Now SARFT of China). CNR until possibly 1980s was using the full interval of 'The East is Red' and the song as its starting tune. As 'March of the Volunteers (义勇军进行曲 Yiyongjun Jinxingqu)' was reinstated as the Chinese National Anthem with legal status, It has become the starting tune of CNR possibly since 1982, and China Radio International changed its package in 1996 I remember (when I was primary school pupil I started to tune into Shortwave Radio hahaha) See also the CNR Taiwan Service possibly after 1975(?): th-cam.com/video/mHjMReenps8/w-d-xo.html

When I was in Beijing in the 90's, it played on the Railway Station clocktower at the beginning of every hour.
It's still being played nowadays.
