It's funny how ridiculous Roman Kim is that TwoSet's reaction only brushes the surface. There's other videos of him playing his own composed pieces that are harder than God Save The King (although according to Kim himself, the Eine Kleine for Solo Violin that TwoSet showed at the beginning is the hardest piece). In those videos he does crazy things like Devil's Trill + double stopped artificial harmonics + left hand pizz at the same time, special harmonics that sound like a flute, tenths with his ring finger and pinkie, more biting the strings :) Apparently he's working on Beethoven's 5th for Solo Violin next.

I assume you’d have to be an experienced violinist to understand the difficulty of what he is playing, but as a complete outsider I appreciate his sound and your reaction. Good stuff.
Roman started playing at age 5 and at age 7 he already won prizes in national competitions in Russia. That's talent. And he's put immense amount of hard work in since.
Well I dug deeper into Roman the past week and my conclusion is that he is an absolute genius of the highest order. Not only he can keep track of up to 4 things at once (there are even videos of him singing, playing cymbals, and playing double stops on violin- all at the same time, not only 4 voices like in Mozart piece) but his own compositions are masterpieces, especially 'Dies Irae' theme where he beautifully marries Bach and Paganini together and his Concerto. But he also invented (!) a new powerful and versatile harmonics technique that makes violin sound like a wind/flute and allows you to play faster than normal because it requires less pressure on strings at the expense of shifting some extra burden to bowing. It's crazy that it took an absolute genius like Roman to uncover this on an instrument that's hundreds of years old and has had many great masters in its rich history - if not his music and playing this feat is a testament on its own. Anyway I don't know what these harmonics technique will be called in the future 'forced' or 'Kim' harmonics but there is a demo and a lesson by someone who bought and studied Roman's sheet music which came with a brief explanation about the technique in preface: 1. demo m.th-cam.com/video/tAJaz4v1jZQ/w-d-xo.html 2. lesson m.th-cam.com/video/gQhQ06kXt0g/w-d-xo.html
Maybe you should pay more attention to comments made by pianists who bought Roman's scores... they say their hands cramping up just by looking at his sheet music
I've honestly been waiting for when they would discover Roman Kim. I've been watching his videos for 1-2 years and they're all equally mind-blowing. He has other videos too where he plays "al dente" and I think he invented a new technique for artificial harmonics that he uses in some of his original pieces. My favourite of his is probably his own composition "Dies irae", though I reserve an honourable mention "Highway Star of Deep Purple" because the video and playing is incredible but the music's a little less my style. And if I'm not mistaken, the glasses he often wears are a special type that, according to science, would narrow his focus.
@@ChiefHerzensCoach @Birthe Here you go. th-cam.com/video/uLnPvPdqPUA/w-d-xo.html It's the latest one he has, it's under a comment by The Shadow Dreadlord.
The crazy part is that he isn't even that old. He was born in 1989. Oh and those glasses he wears, he invented them! How can you accomplish so much in such a short amount of time?
He also invented and perfected a new versatile harmonics technique 'Roman Kim harmonics' which he calls 'forced harmonics' you can hear them ring out crystal clear in contrast in his 'Dies Irae' theme composition at 1:47~ and 6:54~ m.th-cam.com/video/ksATopT-iDI/w-d-xo.html which beautifully marries Bach and Paganini together, this guy is a genius of the highest order
So I searched on Safari on why Roman Kim wear these kind of glasses & I was shocked when I saw it on Reddit that it was his invention in which he calls prioscope. The Reddit user also said that it helps him (Roman Kim) with “his perception of time and helps him concentrate while playing.”
Roman Kim invented more than those goggles... look up 'Roman Kim harmonics' this guy is as innovative as Paganini was during his time. He will set standards and legacy behind that might not surpass for centuries.

This must be what it feels like being a side character in an anime witnessing the protagonist just waltzing through tests that should take 5000 years of intensive training to finish.
"This training normally takes lifetimes to master. We have 37 seconds so we're using the macguffin that has always existed that we never use for some reason." - anime training arc old man
This guy invented his own technique for playing anything in harmonics, in a flawless way. This is the number 1 argument to show he's not human. Very surprised you didn't talk about that!
We found what the TwoSet anime will be about: Two young men, Brett and Eddy, are trying to become the best violinists they can. But other characters both younger and older come along to to defeat them easily. (such as Roman, Hillary, and other young prodigies) Each time they get defeated, though, they learn a new skill from that person who had defeated them, so they eventually become better as the series progresses. Even though they were defeated by basically everyone they don't have any beef/conflict with anyone afterwards.... except that one Violist in 1st grade. The violist is the one and only antagonist. They keep on demanding a rematch, but he never will give it to them. And filler episodes could include boba dates, attempts to practice 40 hours straight, and obviously there has to be a beach episode. If anyone starts making money off of my idea, I'm suing.
Reminds me of Dimash Kudaibergen. Many trained vocalist who hear him sing for the first time think it's fake until they see more of his performances and learn more about his history. There is simply no other vocalist in the world who can do what he does as well and he does it. It doesn't necessarily make him the greatest singer of all time but he's still a technical master who is great fun to marvel at.
I thought the same while watching this video! Exactly the same comments that a vocal coach makes reacting to Dimash!! I would love to see my favorite youtube channel react to my favorite singer!!!
He is fantastic. Now he has released Beethoven's 5th symphony for solo violin, jeez, it's almost too much. What a talent he is, 41 hours a day of practice.
To understand how impressive this guy is, go check out his Wikipedia page. Apparently Ivry Gitis said Roman Kim was one of the most breathtaking violinists he's ever heard in his life.
I remember watching him live back in 2019. He is LEGIT. He played his violin concerto and some solo piece, can't remember what it was. But when I first saw him with those glasses I was like "wtf is he wearing??" and I was with a friend and she looked just as confused as me. When he started playing though my mind was blown, even as a piano player
This guy is shifting like a cello on the violin. *mind blown* The stretch of his hand is just mind boggling. He obviously practices 80 hours a day. 16 days a week. 12 weeks a month. And 30 months a year.
Attempt no. 9 at trying to get twoset to do this for a video. Eddy has to listen to ten violinists play behind a screen. One of them will be Brett. He has to figure out which one. Once he has made his final guess they swap places. They can do it in rounds like the blind date videos. Please like and comment if you want to see a video like this.

One of the very under-appreciated violin god in our lifetime. I've been following Mr. Kim for a few years, and every time when TwoSet is amazed by some incredible violinist, I was like... how about Mr.Roman Kim? Finally... Mr.Kim composed quite a few incredible musics as well, and someone did mention his "I Brindisi" piece.. it's literally insane..
Roman Kim is a beast of a player. I highly recommend your viewers to watch his I Brindisi and his Dies Irae, which I loosely patterned my work, Essence, after. He's been called a Paganini reincarnate and pushes the boundaries on creating new sounds on the violin as well as covering other genres. I'm so stoked you guys gave him coverage. Cheers and keep up the awesome work!

Violinist: *Plays the accompaniament for himself along with the solo* Pianist: Does... this mean I'm out of the job? At last, I can start suffering and write that symphony.
I don't know enough about music or the violin to really appreciate what's going on here. But I love seeing the reaction of two people at the height of their profession react with such childlike amazement at someone who does what they do. You really conveyed how impressive this guy is.
The shot during Eine Kleine Nachtmusik when you could see his fingers up close looked more like what you might see with classical guitar. I wonder if he has experience with the guitar or adapted any of those techniques for the violin.
I was thinking the same. However, guitar strings are much easier to pluck than violin strings (since that's what they're made for) so I'd assume his technique has to involve a lot more clamping or maybe even involve the fingernails?
Please do a part 2!! This was so interesting to watch and it was amazing to get the breakdown of why his playing is so difficult for us non-playing viewers. It helps us get better at appreciating amazing playing!
Songs are comprised of many notes. Those notes are made to be played one at a time. If you have multiple notes, they're usually split up for multiple players to play. The song this guy played was split up for four different players to play at the same time. Instead, this guy played it all, at the same time, by himself. And then there is everything his left hand did. Usually, that hand just pushes down on the string to get the different notes. In order to play the multiple parts, this guy was plucking the string with his left hand while also playing different notes with the bow. I imagine a decent analogy is a busy restaurant where you have the hostess at the front, the waiter taking orders inside, and the chef in the back doing the cooking. With smaller food operations like food trucks, this is possible with just a single person. In a busy sit-down restaurant, you'll need multiple people to fill all the roles. Imagine how hard it will be to fill all the roles with just a single person. You'll need special equipment like maybe a wearable stove to cook while seating customers, with a pad of paper to also take orders. Instead of working each task like they're normally done, you'll need to change up each task so you can do them all simultaneously. That's pretty much what this guy just accomplished.
Doubt it will happen because, unfortunately, Roman Kim's ego didn't like being mentioned by Twoset because he says they are the "clowns of Classical music". What a douche. Great talent. Still a douche.
Im gonna say I know that there was a legend that played with his teeth, but did not know his name. Still pretty sick of him to do a reference tho HAHAHAH

@@P.Ripper And your learning speed has to be quintuple the average, plus time slows down by half when you focus.
Anyway I don't know what these harmonics technique will be called in the future 'forced' or 'Kim' harmonics but there is a demo and a lesson by someone who bought and studied Roman's sheet music which came with a brief explanation about the technique in preface:

This guy invented his own technique for playing anything in harmonics, in a flawless way. This is the number 1 argument to show he's not human. Very surprised you didn't talk about that!
We found what the TwoSet anime will be about:
Two young men, Brett and Eddy, are trying to become the best violinists they can.

The shot during Eine Kleine Nachtmusik when you could see his fingers up close looked more like what you might see with classical guitar. I wonder if he has experience with the guitar or adapted any of those techniques for the violin.
His reach made me think he probably learnt the piano too 🤷♂️
I was thinking the same. However, guitar strings are much easier to pluck than violin strings (since that's what they're made for) so I'd assume his technique has to involve a lot more clamping or maybe even involve the fingernails?
@@SpaghettiToaster maybe he plays bass
Guitar to violin, sounds like something Paganini could do man
Jimmy Hendrix is one of his inspirations so yeah I'd say so
Please do a part 2!!
