You wouldn’t believe this VIOLINIST had it not been recorded…
Roman Kim is a violinist from another dimension. 99% of violin players cannot play what he plays. Join me as a react to this insanity.
Go Practice.

finally musicians are discovering roman kim. it's been like 6 years that i found him and it was so frustrating that nobody knows about him
He is quite well-known in the world of classical music, and I must say that his work may not be fully appreciated by the general public.
Marcin before Marcin but on the violin. tell guitar ppl that
Try watching Tommy Emmanuel. He does this on his guitar. He can play three parts at once.
@@nickiemcnichols5397more easier to play on guitar
I bet he is classical guitarist also, heard Paganini actually wrote more guitar pieces than violin pieces.
Just use the guitar skills and concept on violin.

When the rest of the quartet doesn’t show up…
More like the rest of the orchestra 😂
Hands down modern day’s best example of revolutionary virtuosity. He does things people are unable to explain, as Paganini did back in his day. There’s other aspects besides virtuosity that makes a performer great but is amazing to witness this.
you should also listen to KERSON LEUNG s astonishing erlkoenig...
@@user-sj5sk5ou4u
Kerson Leong's performance of "Erlkoenig" is not exceptional.
E.g. Vilde Frang's performance of it is better.
yes, you have the exceptional ears and the pontificating tongue...
2:46, he uses his thumb for G4 which is why he has enough fingers. No one talks about the fact that he realized he actually has 5 fingers to use and not 4.
It’s a guitar players trick. I do it a lot on ukulele.
If you play violin you know this guy is something else
I just started learning, and I’m agog at this. I may start using my thumb!
@@nickiemcnichols5397I wonder where this will lead to….
At least twice a month I test my luck looking up "roman kim reaction" and reactions like yours is exactly what drives me to do it LOL I felt the same way the first time I heard Roman Kim. Great reaction and interesting channel you earned a sub!
By the way you should check out his performance on his composition "Ballade dies irae", he uses very original techniques in that too
Yes!!! I've been waiting for you to react to this guy. He is honestly the reincarnation of Paganini!
Its a fake reaction, he pre-watched this for sure. He is over-acting so hard
ROMAN KIM is above Paganini already. I am sure he can do what Paganini can do....but Paganini cant do what roman can do.
@@rykehuss3435 It's not a fake reaction. Someone who has no idea about violins may not understand it, but any professional violinist who watches these videos will be completely flabbergasted. You seem to ignore how incredibly difficult and painful (and *unbelievable*) is what Roman Kim does with a violin: the cleanliness and beauty of the rendition, the simultaneous harmonics, the double stops plus left-hand pizzicato & bass line, the consecutive 10ths and even 12ths, the precision despite the speed, the complete and absolute bow control, playing legato + staccato at the same time on different strings, etc. Watching this, any pro violin player at any level will be amazed every single time.
@@bizarro-7you don’t have to be a professional to appreciate his artistry. I’m a beginner and I’m agog. Let me get a bit better and I’ll start using my thumb on the G string. I’ve been doing it on my G string of my ukulele for years. Tommy Emmanuel does it all the time on his guitar.
I genuinely think that he's the fucking resurrection of Paganini.
There are not enough reactions to this legend, glad he’s finally being noticed!!
please react to more of his performances!! he is also a composer and has his own original compositions
One of the insane things he did in that Beethoven symphony was vibrato on a harmonic. I don't know how it is even physically possible, but he definitely did it.
im so glad you reacted to him! ive been waiting for this for so long and really hope that Roman Kim gets more recognition
Amazing. And funnily enough, I don't even think these are the most impressive performances. You have to check out his version of I Palpiti, where he goes crazy with left hand pizz and even TRIPLE OCTAVES! But even more insane in my opinion, his I Brindisi has his own technique (Kim harmonics or forced harmonics), while playinf double stops, while tremolo, and left hand pizz. Just otherworldly.
2 Set look at Mr. KIM a while back. Seriously impressive skills.
The thing with him is he seems to feel like using social media to promote himself might be the "fake" way to do it. Like if he doesn't get world renowned the same way the people who came before him that he respects did then it's not real. My thoughts are that they used the means available to them at the time for promotion. Newspapers and posters and however else, but were he alive today Paganini would absolutely be on Tiktok haha. I don't think Mozart would be opposed to doing an interview with millions of eyes because the show happens to be on the internet and include comedy. I'd just like to hear him talk about what he does haha. I get it though I don't mess with social media either but this level of skill in anything needs to be seen.
I remember him kind of shitting on TwoSet a bit as insincere comedy, at least back before they did their video on him and got him a lot of exposure. I sympathize with this view (that it sort of cheapens classical music) but it's really a shame he is not better known.
You didn't even get to the bit where he turns his hand upside down into that godawful crazy position in the Beethoven
average roman kim
You should really listen to his versions of I palpiti and one of his compositions called I brindisi, he has insane harmonics, he uses like only one finger and does whole scales with it it’s unreal
this is the first video that I've seen of yours and I find you to be very informative and entertaining.
Thank you, I really appreciate it!:)
I would argue Kim is the best violinist in terms of technical skill that we have evidence of playing. Of all time. Above any other maestro. Sadly we dont have footage of Paganini, but I suspect Kim would've played the socks off of Paganini. In any sport, hobby, game, or competition the level of expertise increases over time as information about it grows.
Never before in history could you see full definition video of how the very best do anything. Whether its piano, bowling, violin, sprinting, wrestling or anything. You can watch and analyze how the best do it. Imagine 200 years ago, there was none of that.
I know you dont play guitar, but you should check out the Polish guitarist Marcin Patrzałek. He arranged Beethoven's 5th symphony and Caprice no.24. As a guitarist I'm truly amazed by his virtuosity
You could have said more about his harmonics… he’s using “forced harmonics”, where he can get the octave to sound with just one finger on any position
You should look up the story behind his special glasses.
I was wondering about those 🤔
they aren't medical or anything he invented his own special glasses that he thinks helps focus and stuff though probably has no real effect beyond placebo
@@notyou6674 you're probably right, Roman himself says that he doesn't really know why they help him focus in practicing,
@@Orca-straProbably just a habit he developed for himself
He IS amazing but (and this is not a criticism) I think he has an invisible fret overlay which helps with the pitch. I think you can see it when you look at the fingerboard during closeups...
Again, not a criticism. I think it's actually a great idea.
loco loco loco!
Damn, I was hoping to see your reaction to the full videos, are the full reactions on patreon or twitch or something?? I enjoyed this, Roman Kim is so underrated and insane 😱
To be honest, I’m thinking of doing more Roman Kim content!
@@ViolinMechanic How can you NOT watch more of the GOAT 😁
i'm waiting for someone (maybe himself) doing a very fast version of these renditions!
Your channel is my favourite violin channel.
Fake reaction channel is your favorite? really? he is over-acting so hard only kids wouldnt be able to tell how fake he is
We
He has recognised way to get himself renowned, competition.
He same said .....Hard work
He's truly an incarnate of paganini I must say♥️⚡⚡⚡
I agree with all points, the use of the thumb, the voice-leading, the bow control, the flexibility of the right hand ... but what's about these lines on the fretboard?
yeah, I just wonder why his fingerboard has all violin notes visible?
That's one of his invention.
Nah, we found lingling
Absolutely a virtuoso from another planet! His arrangement of Beethoven’s 5th is from another galaxy!
Welp. At least I want to be a mathematician.
roman kim is a definite GOAT
Clicked this to see you possibly react to him playing the violin with his teeth
When you are slightly introverted:
His fingerboard looks crazy.
The church: Gosh darn it we've got another one *gets cross and holy water*
My guy summoned the ghost of ersnt and paganini to teach him
He got frets on the second one, but still blows my mind (I wouldn't be able even with frets).
I wouldn't say he's the greatest alive, but, I saw someone call him the best technician of our time, which I agree with.
If I said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, this guy was born in a completely different solar system!
people NEEDS to know Roman.
Seeing the frets on the fingerboard is making me more uncomforable than it probably should…
im a twoseter
Is the facecam and obs studio set up a reference to gotham chess
He didn’t even finish the last vid and he missed the psycho string crossing ricochet at the speed of light
Ah yes, Roman Kim
Was he playing a fretted violin for the Beethoven piece?
is the setup with of the video a reference to many chess video sbecause it looks eerily similar (with the main stuff on the left, the face cam and title on the top right and the names on the bottom right)
Yeah it is! I’m a huge GothamChess fan. Do you like the setup?
@@ViolinMechanic yeah it looks really clean.
I wonder if he had his bridge trimmed down to make it less rounded to make this possible.
Been searching youtube for a Roman Kim cover and sadly I haven't found any.
its impressive ngl but it it'll be more impressive if his violin didn't have frets
wdym threads
I think they are like frets
I was wondering about those lateral lines that were all up the fingerboard.
Imagine how much more enjoyable violin would be for beginners (and their audience) if violins did have frets. The violin would much more popular and mainstream. Personally I would love that, because the violin is such a beautiful and versatile instrument.. But those who made the gauntlet generally want to keep their club exclusive.
As for the impressiveness of Roman.. He is the most technically complete violinist alive (an probably ever). How much more impressed do you need to be? Playing with a double base bow would be "more impressive", but what's the point?
@@Jammawtf i dont think its the case of keeping it exclusive cuz the fretless fingerboard is actually used as an advantage where you are not limited by curtain notes and most violin peaces take advantage of the fretless fingerboard to use techniques like slides for example to make the sound more colorful and more unique to the violin ... not to menschen the other genre of music where having a fretless instrument is actually a necessity to even be able to play it . also as a beginner sure u can start with fretled instrument but itll damage your progress when u actually decide to go intermediate and advanced
For real, Roman Kim is Paganini reincarnated, a 21st century violin virtuoso in a league way beyond the stars.
It's nice and the technique he holds is truly amazing but how would these improvisations resound when he plays with an orchestra or a chamber music orchestra? I guess these improvs are nice when he plays like he's doing already - alone.
Of course. These are his arrangements for solo violin, but he can also play with an orchestra in a different way. I recommend you to watch his interpretation of the Paganini - Cantabile with the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra. 👍
to play legato and staccato at once you need to basically vibrate your wrist back and forth to come in and out of double stops. Very hard but possible. Watch the video of him playing closer and you can see that.
5:08 As a person who's interested in both the classical music and GD community, I see this as relatable AF.
Did he put a special fingerboard on his violin? Anyone? Very intriguing!
Yes, it helps chords wise
I’m not even lying, I’d injure myself if I even attempted this.
Okay, so, I think I can TRY and explain what Roman Kim did here: 7:04 ; so, in my knowledge, I think he's using the same technique seen in Bach's Andante (Sonata No.2 - BWV 1003), where, while playing a legato in one string, you closely lean the bow onto the next string replicating a rhythm of the composers choice, so maybe he's just doing it really quick.
And yeah, it's either that or he's just a God.
This guy is so great, he manages to use frets on a violin and not make it feel like a dirty cheat at all …
But but but muh kavakos something something Heifetz Oistrakh wahwah
I could swear at one point I saw smoke coming off those strings lol
Unrelated, but can you suggest a piece to arrange for strings?
do you mean strings or violin solo?
@@emilianooctaviopereacaparo1605 strings
Yeah, arrange Hammerklavier for strings
As an Italian I tell you that no one in Italy is called roman
Roman Kim is one of a kind, he's in his own category, the Roman Kim category. Then there's the rest of us violinsts who understand and appreciate what he's done to bring violin to the next level in terms of techniques.
I am sincerely curious what the music sheets will be like if he ever publishes those amazing renditions of music.
there is also KERSON LEUNG with an equall techniquebut a far more beautiful tone...
@@user-sj5sk5ou4u
Kerson Leong does not have an exceptional technique by the standards of elite violinists
(let alone by the standards of Roman Kim, of whom I am no great admirer).
Always nice to see how you still, unintetionally, play him down.
Saying 99% cant play this still leaves room for 1% to be able to do it.
This would correspond still to 80 million people in the world.
While I would think there are at most about 100 people who could train to play it like this, which means about 99.99999875% cant play this (Using a population of 8 billion).
You were not wrong, but 99% is way to low of a threshold that comes close to the truth.
Nice video nonetheless of course.
Cheers
He's Paganini himself- Reborn
Filing the bridge down just a little more than usual, to get bow to reach across??
is his violin fretted?
Román Kim is Paganini... he Even plays while he's singing
if i just had longer fingers like octupus man
11:02 You know many motivational speakers will say you gotta stay hungry for your success…
Clearly it's not hard to do, i mean we're seeing it being done. So it has to be easy. Just like free climbing a mountain, or sewing grape skins back together. Anyone can do it. (If it wasn't easy to pick up on, sarcasm)
Really really, the closest i could come to such would be that i can pick up a violin and bow. I could probably make a sound that doesn't include crackling of wood with them. I know what I'm capable of doing and what i can't, play a violin is one of the many that i cannot do.
😦 someone give this man a piano
The violin fretboards looks like has small ribs on it?
Roman Kim came to kunming China in Nov and my wife got pictures and autographs from him. He is German .
He lives in Germany, educated in Germany, born in Kazakstan, but his ancestors are from Korea.
it's interesting how apparently nobody nowhere is talking about the fingerboard
Are those frets on a violin?😭😭
When the Erlking is too easy 😂
Roman is Kazakh
Isn’t the first piece supposed to be a quartet?
finally musicans discovering this guy
He has adamantium fingers, like Wolverine. 😂
Bro i swear Kazakhstanis are crazy. Theres a singer who’s from kazakhstan who is also ridiculously good.
I believe Kim is from another Planet 🌎
All these compositions/arrangements are incredibly virtuosic and really are embellishments on original pieces - I would actually say that Roman Kim is more like H W Ernst than Pag.
I just noticed that he still has frets scooped into his fingerboard. A Little bit of a hack if you're going to do that.
Forget the frets.... I just can't get past those glasses that "allow him to slow down time and see his fingers quicker than he needs to".
That bugs me. Always will. It's just another show-off-y thing those glasses.
N.B. Notice how he doesn't need them at 6:25 ....
10:02 (when he was younger but just as amazing) he didn't need those glasses either..
Watch him when he play's doors
Roman Kim and Marcin Patrzalek guitar can form a super orchestra
His finger board looks strange. How come?
Bro might be using frets in beethoven 5 for microtonality
hes kazakh
KERSON LEUNG has the same astonishing technique but a by far more glorious tone...
By the standards of elite violinists Kerson Leong does not have an exceptional technique.
In particular, he does not have an exceptional tone.
Not 2 violins but a full quartet
Why does he have the gotham chess thing going on???
His violin has frets??
