      both the instrumentalists
      & Ms A.....
ranks right up as one of coolest **recordings**
      ever🎙🎵,
      TV show or none 💐💖...
      Even considering,
that the P Gunn show is / was ultra cool.

The complete Peter Gunn series is available on DVD. Lola Albright sings several standards in various episodes.
The print and transfer quality is excellent (from original negatives, if I remember correctly).
PS.: Beware -- you may succumb to binge watching, as I did. :)

Lola made a terrific album with Henry Mancini on Columbia, "Dreamsville," not to be missed. It was the rage at the University of Missouri in 1962 and 1963.

I first came across Lola Albright looking for a version of "How High The Moon" and found this, Lola's version on the Peter Gunn show. It is so simple, and understated with just a quartet featuring Shorty Rogers on flugelhorn to back her up and is still my favorite version of this classic jazz standard. From that introduction I picked up as many of her albums as I could find. Truly a beautiful lady in every respect.

    Somewhere there's music
    How faint the tune
    Somewhere there's heaven
    How high the moon
    There is no moon above
When love is far away too
    Till it comes true
That you love me as I love you
    Somewhere there's heaven
    It's where you are
    Somewhere there's music
    How near, how far
    The darkest night would shine
If you would come to me soon
Until you will, how still my heart
    How high the moon
    How high the moon
Is the name of this song
    How high the moon
    Though the words maybe wrong
We're singin' it because you ask for it
So we're swingin' it just for you
    How high the moon
    Does it touch the stars
    How high the moon
Does it reach out to mars
Though the words maybe wrong to this song
We're askin' how high high high high is the moon

The cool thing about Peter Gunn was that each episode was a short film noir. If they made a Peter Gunn movie, it would probably end up being about violence, gun fights and explosions. The show was about Peter Gunn trying to find a bad guy and running into one or two quirky characters along the way, and filmed in beautiful and shadowy black & white.

Fantastic series. Best of the genre. Only one that comes close is the "M Squad" starring Lee Marvin.

Not sure of the timing of each's ascent, but she has the languid approach of Astrud Gilberto in some of her phrasing. Love it.

Her Columbia album with Mancini, "Dreamsville," was the rage at the University Missouri in 1960. We wore it out. The arrangements were unique, the material unique and she certainly as a singer was unique. I guess what impressed everyone was the album was enormously sexy an enormously tasteful at the same time. As a singer, she was no amateur. We all mourned there never being a followup L.P.

Nightclubs and nightlife with actual singers and a live band- look for these now in old television shoes and movies! Dress, speech and actions were cultured too!

One gets the feeling the song has been carefully selected to be within the limited range of her voice. The allure here surely is not bland melody, plain vanilla sound produced by larynx, it is Lola's unspeakable attractiveness. So lovely turned toward the film-noir light I cannot find words to adequately describe it.

Every singer performs within the range of their voice and talents, this type of song and range is perfect for the TV show (a nightclub rehearsal in the late 1950s) and Lola's mid-range vocals.

This is great playing, and great singing you know nothing about music.

Never under-estimate attractiveness with the ability of a singer to entertain. This is club that needs to attract patrons, so an attractive and merely adequate singer are perfect for the venue. A powerful voice like Whitney Houston would over-power this room, unless Whitney greatly played-down her beautiful, powerful voice, which she could have done of course!
