    The Take 5 sounds very good. I have a Prophet 6 and a Prophet 10 rev4, and the 10 makes the hair on my arms stand up every time. It's just so amazing

    I've got a Prophet 10 Rev 4... also had Prophet 6, the P10 (and P5) sounds better than the P6 and certainly better than the take 5. The only other sequential synth I love tonally is the OB-6. It teams up well with the Prophet 5/10.

    Great to see William Kurk again!
    On my channel, there's a video where I've recreated all the original prophet 5 patches on the Take 5, if you want to have those vintage sounds as a starting place right at hand.
    EDIT to add that's one of my favorite bass riffs, Don't stop the music by Yarbrough & Peoples. lol great stuff

      when I watch this again, this 100% feels like an advert for the more expensive synth

  • @vincewizz8534
    @vincewizz8534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    It seems the T5 here has too much vintage knob, and the presets have not been worked enough to match the P5’s

    • @FatSynthDude
      @FatSynthDude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's what I'm thinking. Especially on resonant sounds, it's like a whole other synth. There's got to be a way to make them more closely match each other than what he's doing.

      @@ageshero nope. Cheaper components on the T5.

  • @kryptoniterazor

    It strikes me as a very unfair comparison to play a new, perfectly calibrated Prophet Rev4 back to back with a Take 5 with the vintage knob turned all the way up for every patch (!). It just makes it sound out of tune and weak in comparison. There are some big differences in the sound the make, but these very approximate comparisons just seem designed to push people towards the more expensive synth.

  • @opwave79
    @opwave79 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That flex with the Dave Smith autograph, lol! Yes, I agree with the others that there’s a certain character and warmth that the Prophet 5 has that the Take 5 doesn’t. But honestly, if you’re not a stickler for finer details, you could be very happy with the Take 5.

    The T5 and the P5 are relatives, so it just doesn't make sense to put down one of them. If you like P5, you'll like T5, and vice versa. They have different subtleties, but are very plainly part of the same network. I agree with the commenters who say that the P5 has an elusive secret sauce, but the T5 is also great. It's very much like the P5, more than the P6 or even the Prophet 600. I love them both. Great demo as well.

    P5 is a more refined synth, love the filter and attack, the take 5 sounds gritty and also smooth when you want to, I love it, but it sounds like it has a double attack with plucky sounds, first you hear a noisy attack and then the real attack from the ADSR, maybe they could make the digital attack a little slower so it times better with the analogue oscillator.

    @10:01 was the highlight for me. I love both, but I like the price of the Take 5 more. I have a Mopho x4 and I love that too. I like everything DSI / Sequential has made is always great. I would love to get a Prophet X, but it ain't cheap.

      Hi I have a MoPhox4 and a P10R4. However I was thinking of letting go the MoPhox4 and getting a Take 5. Would love your thoughts on that if I should or not. Budget no issue but I want a 3 octave keyboard as a controller that is also a strong synth that is around 25” wide. So I was thinking of replacing the Mophox4 with the Take 5. Would I miss the Mophox4? Thanks so much

    • @dbjungle
      @dbjungle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@musicxtn I'm not a good enough musician to ask, but... I think it would mostly depend on how you feel about DCOs vs VCOs and the other newer features. The Mopho X4 is pretty basic, which is fine for me.

    • @nebula0697
      @nebula0697 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That could be true, and I should hope for the price difference despite stereo and so many more features on the T5 it's something in the sound. But still I think they could have got closer, matching sounds can be a bitch. The P5 sounds so damn good in this but I think I heard the T5 sound better in other demos

  • @user-cv8ud8qo9f
    @user-cv8ud8qo9f 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really interesting hearing them back to back ... I didn't expect so much difference in sound quality, although why I didn't expect that I don't know as there is a massive difference in cost! No disrespect the the Take 5, it's a great synth for the money, but I get the impression the Prophet 5/10 would sound good whatever you played ... which is just down to sheer tonal depth and quality.

    I've owned both: the Take 5 sounds much better than this. It sounds like the calibration needed to be ran or too much vintage knob. The patches could've been closer - def no offense to Will.
    That said, the Prophet 5's sound is unreal in person. Definitely worth it if you don't need the extras.

    This is the dumbest comparison of two synths I've ever seen. Clearly, no real attempt was made to get the T5 to emulate the P5. All this served to prove is that some people shouldn''t be allowes to demonstrate things they are incapable of.
