  • I am a video maker and gold panning enthusiast based in the United Kingdom. Today I was searching for Super fine flood gold also known as Gold Prospecting where I used a gold pan to find the gold which was lying at the bottom of a glory hole at a secret river in Wales

@Simon Cameron It's so confusing. I have never panned for gold myself, but the news media on stories surrounding this activity quote The Crown Estate as saying that you can't even keep the gold you find. So is this true?? So it's not just environmental, they won't admit it's because of the money! Panning for gold is an age old custom, and I think you should be able to keep what you find. Some want to call it theft!

Absolutely brilliant! It looks like it's such a relaxing hobby. I'm a drug addict in recovery, and I've just bought some basic equipment so that I can get out there and have a try myself. Been down to my local river for a practice (not that I'm going to find anything in there!). Hopefully sometime next year I'll be getting over to Wales.

There are so many things out there to be discovered and the great outdoors offers it all to you, you just have to get out there and find what it is. The search for gold has captured mankinds attention for thousands of years and I am sure that once you find that first spec of gold in the bottom of your pan, your life will change for ever.....

    Hello mate,
I think I may have found a bit of a kindred spirit here!
I’ve recently fallen in love, so I thought it was perhaps time to find some gold 😂
I’m a carpenter by trade, live in my van and off the land. I forage what I can, mostly plants, but I do get a little help from my HW 100FSB 😉Your video contains loads of useful little nuggets (sorry). I was just wondering, what’s your three top tips? I’m in no rush, but I reckon I’ll need about 7g for the ring.
I’m really excited about having a new reason to get out in nature, basically love finding anything that’s not my phone or keys!
    Cheers 🙂

    • @MrDazP1adv3ntures
      @MrDazP1adv3ntures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow, first and foremost that sounds like an interesting lifestyle , hunting fishing and foraging for your daily needs.
You need a week up in Tyndrum or somewhere around that area and you will find 7g of gold if you sluice the gravels down to bedrock and then work the tightly packed cracks.
I personally don't do the Facebook platform but the gold panning groups will give you another insight into what's going on out there.
Look after the HW too they are a nice piece of kit

Hello Andrew, the gold belt starts near Dolgellua and extends for 30 miles in a northerly direction. The main rivers up there have had gold panning bans since the Alba mining company have taken over the gold mines.
Keep researching on line where gold has been reported. Leadhills in Scotland is a classic place where you can find a few specs within a few yards of your car which is reasurring to know when you have got loads of kit to carry.
If you are sluicing, I would always work all the gravels from the area you are digging. You might just find a few specs in the mid layers.
There's so much to learn about this fascinating hobby and you just have to take your time.
Black sands are a good indicator for where the heavier materials are travelling down the river. You never know you might hit it lucky one day and day and find that elusive nugget. But be mindful of gold fever, lol. It does exist !

I like how efficient you've set up your sluice box. Nice flow 👌 I've just got my sluice boxes and went to a Brook just to see if it was easy to use. It took me some time to get the flow just right but we all have to start somewhere. 😂 I didn't run much material through it because it's not a gold baring location I just wanted to see the movement of the material and found 2 lead weights 🤣

    • @MrDazP1adv3ntures

Black sand is a common reference to particles or grains such as magnetite or hematite which are relatively heavy. They are heavy enough to stay in the pan or sluice along with gold. In general Gold has a density of 19.3g per cubic cm (almost like a sugar cube size) whereas the balck sands my be at about 5g per sugar cube size but still kind of heavier than other materials you are processing. They are normally black, grey or rusty colour and can be a bit of a problem when you are trying to pan out the cons - concentrates) down to the gold on it's own. Some are magnetic and you can use a magnet to remove them. ....Hope this kind of helps Gavin.

correct me if im wrong but for some reason i recall hearing that any gold found in wales automatically belongs to the crown via the prince of wales. I may have misheard or mis-remembered

I tend to throw the tiny specs back now after my session for this reason but if they wanted it I would happily give it to them.

Another great vid. Given that the much of the west coast saw volcanic action it makes you wonder just what's out there.

There will be veins which run from Cornwall, Devon into Wales, Ireland ,The Lakes and on to Scotland. It's all good stuff.

All gold and silver are the property of the Crown in the UK and to mine them in any form requires a license from the Crown Estate, together with permission from the land owner: www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=751b967f-198b-4073-bc80-9db8ffd2b52f
Reference to the FAQ section on the Crown Estate website addresses the question of licenses for gold panning, where it states that the crown does not issue licenses for gold panning due to the adverse environmental impact it can have on the aquatic environment. www.thecrownestate.co.uk/en-gb/resources/faqs/
One would also need to exercise further caution if there are environmental protections in place, for example large areas around Coed y Brenin are designated as SSSI's, where disturbing sediments for any reason could potentially land fines of up to £20k if the correct permissions haven't been sought in advance of starting operations.
I believe (some of) those who have commercial licenses for working gold in the Dolgellau gold belt pan in a tank and not the river. They aren't necessarily sourcing the concentrates from active river beds either, thus avoiding any issues about aquatic disturbance.
