This story was definitely a what if scenario. Goku and Vegeta are still dead as goku returned to afterlife after his day on earth. And Gohan managed to beat majin buu. Hence, Elder Kai didn't have to give up his life for Goku. And King Yama never needed to fetch Vegeta from the underworld to send him to earth. Also the parallel that I like is, in canon, we get vegito, here gogeta!
Every time Vegeta died, it was always a sad thing, crying before his death because he is facing the one who killed his planet, or sacrificing himself to protect those he loved, but this “death” felt different. He wasn’t even able to see those he loved, only Goku, but it somehow felt he was more pure then any of the other times we ever see him.
Tell me otherwise, but Gogeta's theme stands at the same level as Vegeta's piano. Just a little bit calmer and less threatening, but even more determined. You should indeed be scared of this guy.

It isn’t the same universe and They didn’t get rid of it it’s just odd to explain this movie came out during the original Z era and chronologically follows a different timeline in one instance you could see DB-Z-GT or DB-Kai-Super as to separate timelines all movies prior to Battle of God presumably take place in the first anime trilogy and Toriyama’s writing wasn’t core to how the movies and the first anime trilogy was structured giving a different feel on the story the second anime timeline has more of Toriyama’s involvement in direction despite both timelines not including GT’s story being adapted from his work whether for better or for worse as people have different opinions on how characters personalities seem different from then vs now
