The movie may have been a commercial failure, but it is a good movie to some fans out there. I already failed to see why this movie was a failure. I almost don’t see why they say this movie was bad.

I agree. I don't see why it was bad. Maybe because of the nuclear disarmament theme, which the powers that be that want us to live in fear, don't like? The movie may have been silly and corny but it was entertaining and funny. At least it should be in the "so bad that it's good" category.

Alexander Courage and Arthur Morton were the orchestrators on Superman, which is funny since they were the regular orchestrators for Jerry Goldsmith for almost 50 years.

    • @reidmason2551

Goldsmith was the original choice of composer for *Superman* until production delays led to Williams taking over, and eventually scored *Supergirl.* So he was always connected to the Superman universe in some way.

Huh never realized it until now this version of the theme has small bits of 80s horror tension based chords.
I always thought that all of the themes until man of steel were the same only slightly changed.
The extra notes sound like the movie is about superman fighting a stranger things like creature or a 80s slasher that somehow could take on superman.
It's kind of a interesting idea actually.. 🤔🤔

Wes Craven was invited to direct this film early on, but bowed out due to clashes with Christopher Reeve. So the slasher film villain connection with Nuclear Man could have been even more pronounced had Craven stayed on.

I am always stunned how good this soundtrack is outside of the context of the movie -- somehow they screwed up the sound mix along with everything else. I remember seeing it in a the theater and our entire family, if not the audience, knew something off seconds into the credits.

    • @reidmason2551
      @reidmason2551 ปีที่แล้ว +1

True. The National Philharmonic performed most of the action music cues as the Graunke wasn't used to the hectic pacing. When they performed the score for *Masters of the Universe,* composer Bill Conti edited the final score together from different takes for the same reason.

    Hi Gilles,
You make very good extended versions of available soundtracks.
    I have a question:
What about all those complete Film music what is not available and what will never be available?
There are also many short versions of good film music and TV series music what will never be published on vinyl or CD.
I think, that a lot of them need much attention for becoming much more famous as only a small part in a movie or as only to be a short intro or outro music.
I waited 35 years for the soundtrack of 'The Executor - Der Vollstrecker (1983)' and when it came out, it was on vinyl. But I have no record player since long time. So I have to wait another 35 years until a CD of this soundtrack comes out?
For example: The movie 'Return to Salems lot' has a brilliant intro music, but the soundtrack was never published in original version. Many years ago a TH-camr made a techno-version of the melody of this intro. And an other TH-camr created this melody new and slower with his sound machine.
Both versions are very good. But it would be also very nice to hear this original song in a large version what was made in the lenght of what you make your extended versions. If the only way would be to take the music out of the movie, then it is so.
This is only one example song about I write here, but there is much other rare film music what needs a lot more of attention.
Long ago I took the intro and outro music of the movie 'Munchie' and I put them together as a long 'Munchie version' and I called it 'Soundtrack', because a vinyl or CD did never exist of the original short ones. I think, this was a simple trick, but it worked.
    Here it is:
Munchie Strikes Back (1994) / Soundtrack (Music By Chuck Cirino)
    th-cam.com/video/wzGsw-rsszE/w-d-xo.html
Gilles, I hope I got your interest also for searching for good unpublished film music and for making it a little bit better in a remixed and longer version.
    best greetings from Germany
PS: The profile picture of your channel looks brilliant.
I think that most of the 'famous' actors in the world would become jealous if they would see it 😃

Hello. Yes, a lot of good (and less good) soundtracks are still unreleased unfortunately. There's not much I can do about that. I already tried to contact many of the composers of some of these "lost" soundtracks but it's really a pain in the ass because almost nobody has the politeness to even reply. And the very rare few that reply usually answer by the negative. They don't have it "anymore" (which I sincerely doubt... seriously, a composer won't keep a copy of his own work?? I have pain to believe that. They may have "lost it", maybe, it can happen tough), they can't or don't have the permission or even they don't want to share it (or they have it on their original master but don't want to digitalise it).
As for the so called "complete scores" or "Recording sessions", I have no idea where some people get that... But it's sometimes very useful for the extended versions I do. Using alternative versions to avoid too much repeats in the track.
Note: I had contacts with Chuck Cirino. He usually answers. Munchie is actually available to buy here: buysoundtrax.myshopify.com/collections/new-releases-home/products/munchie-original-soundtrack-by-chuck-cirino-cd-comes-with-digital-download-24-bit-wav-mp3-and-digital-pdf

      @@GillesNuytens ok, thank you.
The same Munchie-music was also used in the movie 'Mom, can I keep her'.
Sometimes they use the same soundtracks in different movies.
Your long version of Critter Skitter is excellent.
In Germany the normal Soundtrack came out when the movie was decades old and I bought the CD only because this one song. Your long version of it made it perfect now.
There are a lot of remixed songs on your channel and it will take me a long time to listen all of them. You have a good taste which songs are worth to use for making it a little bit or much more better and longer.
Here is a tip of a single song of a movie with a special good melody what you maybe will like, if you did not know the song before. The melody appears 2 times in this song, but this is definitive too short. The complete song runs only 2: 32 on CD.
It's from 'Escape from the planet of the apes' - This song is unusual for a soundtrack of the old 5 apes movies, because it is complete different to the other ape tracks.
Here on youtube is this song as the first one in a compilation with other songs of the movie.

Would it be possible to do the same for, say, the opening title to BBCs classic series Red Dwarf?
