You will need the battery back pac....or a second battery carried with you in a ziploc bag, or have a hand-off person with clean hands to change the batteries halfway.
Gotta have a strong arm to carry the damn thing on the poles...some obstacles get mighty tricky...but hey, if soldiers pull it off with one leg, one arm, we can't complain.

Awesome video. Just bought a GoPro for my Tough Mudder coming up in April 2013 in Georgia.
I had a 32GB card...although I stopped and started my camera. If you left it running for the whole race you will max out any card. The bigger trouble will be your battery life. I had friends just watching the race meet me halfway to do a battery swap.

batteryfarmfilms good luck with the electro shock. Some people go through no problem. Some people black out and take a dirt nap face down in the mud!

Great video, I think I might try the monopod next year. I wore the chest mount this year. I highly recommend turning the camera off between obstacles. I missed filming a bunch because my battery died.
Mine is heavy duty, and with the gopro way out on the end, the leverage goes straight into your wrist. Tiny gopro out on a 2ft lever will feel way heavier on the arm. Especially while running.

100%. But you have to be pretty strong to run an entire race with it and be fit enough to get through obstacles with it. I use both.

Rock on. Good for you! The Tough Mudder is equally as fun, but no chip timers so it's not as 'serious'...Spartan Race has prize winnings so people train for it and get a little more crazy. Where do you live, what location would you run?
Thanks! I'm doing this on saturday. I have a 32GB card, a battery bacpac and a head mount. I'll be shooting 1080p 60fps and mainly shoot during the obstacles only. Any extra tips you can share??? Like anything you wish you filmed that you missed (that maybe I can be prepared for)? Or what (if any) obstacles to avoid bringing the GoPro through (water/electricity etc.)? I'm renting it so I want to be extra careful.
They are electrical wires - all of the people falling at the beginning are being electrocuted and flopping to the ground - like being tazered.
What video resolution and frame rate did you record at? I have a hero4 silver and I wanted to converse memory and battery life through the race. Thanks!

Why does everyone just put “gopro” but never the cameras specs...also it cant be that tough if you were able to hold that cam stick the entire time

What did you use to edit the film
Monopod. Need a strong grip and strong arm to hold onto it for 18km.!

What are those yellow string you went through?
Live electric fence wire. Thats why everyone was just dropping into the mud. Full on electrocution. Same with that put of water where im screaming in pain.

Its a pro monopod. not tripod. You can even use a stick if you have to.
