    I finally bought Lachlan's 50/50 and it is so good! I think it's actually very complimentary to Danaher's Enter the System - Leglocks. Having options from both is great, one being dis-entangled can often lead to the other. I love how Lachlan makes the effort to re-cap everything succinctly at the end of each section, the narrated footage brings it all together, the concepts are laid out clearly. loving it. And whereas Danaher will improve your Japanese, Lachlan will improve your medical terminology. (Distal vs Proximal). 10/10 would recommended both.

    I would love a real, live debate between Danaher and Giles on this question of inside/outside sankaku.

      Outside Sankaku is a better position for controlling and submitting, because your legs act as a frame against their waist and prevent them from coming up or rolling out. Inside Sankaku is a better position for transitioning, because it's an easier position to enter into from an inferior position and can be a stage to exit into a superior position like Crackhead Control in IBJJF. I think Outside Sankaku is better from a Top Down approach, because you can take them down with a Single Leg Dump, start with their leg across your body and then enter Outside Sankaku for the breaking position. But until Craig Jones enters an IBJFF tournament and takes backs with nothing but Outside Sankaku like Gordon Ryan did with Inside Sankaku, I don't think the position has nearly as much promise in a limited rule set. To that effect, Outside Sankaku is like the Russian Leg Knot - a penultimate position instead of a head quarters.

      @@andrewferris1903 im late to the party but I appreciate the comment. im learning the leglock game but it seems to me that inside and/or outside sankaku are the most dominant leg entanglement positions. (and sambo knot)
      am I understanding that correctly?

    I know Bernardo keeps saying "there's no better or worse" but the outside variation seems superior to the standard inside.

    Is the top leg in danger of a toehold?

    • @kilbankilban6465
      @kilbankilban6465 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think the back heeling action of his leg keeps it at the hip and makes it hard to Toe Hold it.
      Also you lost the hand fight.

      You can get the grip, but your body gets in the way if you want to finish it.

    • @TheElThomaso
      @TheElThomaso 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      No, not a regular toe hold. It's the "wrong" foot (or the foot on "wrong" side, depending on perspective). This foot would be in danger of toe hold on the other side (as traditional 5050 leg positioning). Imagine hitting a Kimura on your opponent's left arm, which is crossed over to your right side. It doesn't work cross body. the kimura and toe hold are very similar in this regard.
      In the outside sankaku position your foot could be caught with an inside heel hook or estima lock. Both are very hard to get from this angle and need some adjustment beforehand. Also possibly an inverted toe hold, likewise rather hard to pull off with that angle though. Lastly, note that you generally take that position after achieving heel connection, so you're opponent is in immediate danger of being injured. Digging for counter leg locks doesn't seem like a good approach on his part.

    instead of putting that leg to his far hip i like to put it under his leg to the far hip. in many situations you opponent will have time to control that top leg and use it to counter you. if you hide that foot you still retain the pushing foot, and the tighter ashi so they cant slip out.

    • @ardaonen260
      @ardaonen260 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you get your foot over there? The top leg is already hard to pass over to the side where you can start back heeling, how do you squeeze it underneath your opponents leg?!

    Right at 6:00 when he says, “you’re not gonna leg lock that…” that left foot Lachlan leaves hanging over Bernardo’s left hip; this is how Bodoni taps O’flanagan a few weeks ago at ADCC. That foot is not as safe as Lachlan believes it to be.

    • @Longarmshortarm
      @Longarmshortarm ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re not the same position. Giles has his right leg hidden here, bodoni had his left leg pommeled inside oflanagan’s right leg.
