I think this video is less about corporate parks, and more about Six Flags being a trash chain.
Like Kings Island’s staff and operations are better than Holiday World and especially Hershey.
Cedar Fair and Sea World park’s both get significant and impactful investments for their major parks.
Charm is the one thing “good” independent parks have that corporate chains lack as they are more tailored to their region.

Nope trust me this man got it right. I'm a big coaster fan from europe but als a big theme park fan. If you never left the states sorry you just won't know the differnce. Closest are the bush gardens parks as theme parks. the disney and universale parks are also real theme parks but they lack the soul. they look really nice but at some point you just go yuck especially disney. Sorry since walt has gone corperate greed just has taken over, not saying they don't make some excellent products and for the casuale visitor it might not be obvious but in the end they suck every time i ve been to one of there parks they managed to break up th emergian you need in a theme park just to screw you out of one more dollar.

He probable does and so do most people in the community. Now i'm just as happy to go to a six flax or a cedair fair park. The are pretty good value for money. And if you just wanna do the thrills they got it. But if you do a lot of them then yes they arn't charming i don't mind it as much as with disney. the first to aren't claiming anything else then "cheap" trills and they deliver. Sealworld/bush are in my opnion the higher class in the us chains. And ive done only one universal park wich was pretty good it was the one in hollywood so the kind of hollywood sleeze the park had fitted the vibe. Not sure if that would work in another location.
In Europe the merline parks aren't the best either wich is probable the biggest one in europe. Now in the charm department. come over and do european parks cause all parks in the USA suck compaired to european ones. If you just want to do coasters european ones suck. So its just wanth you want to do.

So many corporate parks started out as one man's vision. Later a larger company saved them from closure (and again..). They do have a charm, even if a decaying one, from the mixture of original features mixing with alternate waves of creativity and expediency.
Your example of Fun Spot is interesting, no doubt they care but that's probably not what first springs to mind for most, the Atlanta park also being the product of a mixed up history instead of a singular vision.

As a lagoon local, I constantly wish that they would get bought by Cedar Fair... Sometimes independent means they don't really know what they are doing
Also, "corporate" is not the right word here. every park takes a corporation to run, you just mean "chain" parks. Hershey is not some small business lol

  • @Calakapepe
    @Calakapepe 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

the thing about holiday world.... Every ride and piece of entertainment is ALSO a loss of revenue just to run and be maintained.. not until people later buy merch or food etc do they make money back (ignoring ticket sales)
But having free drinks and sunscreen is exponentially cheaper than even a modest coaster & it makes the park look amazingly great & continues great draw even 10 years after enstating that policy lol
I don't understand why other family parks don't do it.. corporate parks & crowded parks have no reason tho

I'm from europe mostly mined out all the major parks on that continent started last year on the american serquite focussing on the six flaggs and the cedar fair chains cause its cost effective. also did a lot of independents if they where antwhere close on route and a side trip to the north east and lagoon. And i can defently say i like the independent parks way better then the corperate ones thats goes for europe but especially for the US. Sorry disney land kind of sucks and most six flags parks and cedair fair parks whil being very nice for coaster enthousiast just don't have the same feel as the independend ones, I have to give credit to knotts berry wich did have that independent feel. And the smaller chains like seaworld/bush gardens did an ok job and the one universal park i did in hollywood was ok to. Not wanting to bitch an the major brands both six flags and to a lesser degree cedair fair parks just don't cut in the overall segment. they do have great coasters so i'm not complaining. To be honest only disney and porta ventura really aren't worth the money due to corperate decisions. If you never been to one of those just go there ince for the experience and never ever go back agin cause anything else is better in my opinion.

I think your choice of words is curious. It sounds like you see a "corporate park" as being a chain park. Most parks are incorporated for-profit businesses which really doesn't matter between the types of parks you are describing.
But it seems that what you're really getting at is publicly traded corporations vs privately owned corporations. In that case, there's some truth because if a family wholly owns a park it gives them the freedom to work with a smaller profit margin if they so choose where as a CEO at a publicly traded company will be fired if profits are not maximized. But even then I'm not sure I quite agree with the overall conclusion.
Let's compare a place like Fiesta Texas to Lagoon or Holiday World. I think in terms of park appearance I'd argue that Fiesta Texas looks better than either Holiday World or Lagoon. And operations are better than Lagoon and often better than even Holiday World. Now maybe I'm cherry picking. But I'd say Great Escape, Fiesta Texas, Knotts Berry Farm, the SeaWorld parks (except San Antonio), the Busch Gardens parks, Cedar Point, Kings Island and certainly Disney and Universal parks are parks with great charm and appearance. While there are plenty of independently owned and operated parks (particularly in the Northeast) that don't really look nice but may just benefit from a cool lakeside setting. And sometimes the operations might be slow and the additions are infrequent.
What makes those parks cool is that they are unique and in a lot of cases feel like a "best kept secret." If Knoebels was in a major metro area and saw the kinds of crowds that might be seen at a major city chain park then it would probably lose a bit of charm. Furthermore, the increased market base would lead to increased demand and increased prices. A lot of what makes Knoebels cool is how far your dollar goes in such an old timey park. If it had higher demand it'd end up surrounded by hotels instead of isolated in the woods and they'd increase ride ticket prices to handle the larger crowds. But it would still be unique so people would at least have that.
I think uniqueness is what you're really getting at when you say "better." If a Six Flags park is predictably cheap and repetitive it comes off bad. If an independent park uses cheap facades for theming it feels cheesy and fun. I think the same when it comes to rides. If Justice League, Boo Blasters, S&S 4D Freespins, B&M Batman models ....etc, were actually not clones but a single installation existed at a single independent park people would say they were really cool.
What really matters is business model. Herschend Family Entertainment is a privately owned company. They own three parks outright and have a slight majority share in Dollywood. Do they have a great business model? I guess it depends on whether you live closer to South Georgia or to East Tennessee or Branson Missouri. They've decided to mostly leave Wild Adventures as it is and it's a decent park. But it certainly doesn't get huge investments. But they invest a ton in Silver Dollar City (and myriad other ventures) and jointly invest a lot in Dollywood (more to follow on Kentucky Kingdom.) But the same is true of living in Michigan or Minnesota if you're a Cedar Fair fan vs Ohio. All of these companies have a business model. If you love riding coasters you might be glad you live near SF Over Texas compared to near Enchanted Forest. But if you like uniqueness it'll be the opposite. And if you like theming you'll prefer Orlando to Elysburg, PA. But if you like feeling like you've found a hidden gem you'll feel the opposite.
    Sorry for the long comment.
