I go Elijah craig over standard buffalo trace as well. Second pour of EC for me I always get really nice toffee brown sugar notes up front with a nice oaky finish BT is good but it's thinner and I dont enjoy the flavors as much. I also can only ever find any buffalo trace products around me at bars and have to pay way too much for a pour while elijah craig small batch is readily available at all my local liquor stores they all sell it for 32+tax for a bottle but still better than 12-15 a pour at a bar for buffalo trace.
Ten years ago, give or take, BT was available by the case if you wanted. I used to buy the 1.75-liter bottles only like 5 years ago. Now in central Maryland it is rare to find it in any bottling. I was very gratified to discover Elijah Craig Small Batch recently. It is a close second to BT and it is literally EVERYWHERE! I've completely given up looking for BT. If it ever comes back to Maryland in any kind of reliable quantities, I MIGHT start drinking it again, but EC is my go-to. Kinda annoyed at BTD for playing around with their distribution...they said, "Just wait a few years until we catch up with production...." HA! Still waiting.
Was not into hunting whiskey back then, but BT is all over my area by the pallet at $22-23 750mL and there is almost no discount for the 1.75L at $50, which I found strange.
Both solid starters. Low proof enough that they won't blow out your palate. Flavors that will make you think about what's in the glass without overwhelming your taste buds. And priced not to break the bank.
I am a huge fan of both Bourbon Whiskeys in this video. But I currently like Elijah Craig more right now. However, my tastes change over time. I may go back and forth. 😊
I love both of these. The EC Small Batch is just a notch above the BT for me, but because it's so readily available and the price is generally lower. I love me a good sub-$30 daily drinker.
Elijah Craig is *much* better than Buffalo Trace. And Elijah Craig is a ton easier to find - it's everywhere, while Buffalo Trace is a unicorn in some places. In place of Buffalo Trace I'd put Bluff Springs, which is just as sweet and tastes better (it is, however, a Total Wine store brand).
Great video! I buy BuffTrace whenever I see it at retail. And I agree maybe that addition is already working because I’m seeing it more regularly in Ohio.
I've got a store pick elijah craig that has these sweet cedar and spice notes that taste Veeeery similar to knob creek 12 to me... I have avoided buying a bottle of standard ecsb because I suspect it wont come close to that pick.
How fun. I wanna try these blind head to head. I have Buffalo Trace in my collection, but no EC small batch. Got a 4 or 5 ECBPs, but that is an unfair comparison.
@stuffandwhiskey Bourbon isn't my favourite whiskey but I can appreciate some of the quality bottles I've tasted. But recently I had the 4 roses small batch and thought it was a delight at the price, so I said I'd buy the entry level Elijah Craig and give it a spin. To me it tastes like a hot mess, maybe it needs some time open it's only been a week but I'm not so sure. The Buffalo Trace was also there I'll be trying that next.
EC small batch was my entry into bourbon. Will always hold a special place for me.
"The curtains match the drapes?"🤔🚫🥃😂🤣😂
😂
Carpets, Josh! Carpets!

I have about 20 whiskey channels I subscribe to. This channel is in my top 5. Good job and thanks!
That's incredibly high praise Scott. Thanks so much for the kind words!

Also in MD. I’ve only seen one bottle of BT in the wild and store priced it at $55. No thanks.

1792 small batch, Elijah Craig small batch, Buffalo trace , larceny small batch my everyday sipper picks
I slightly prefer Elijah Craig but I'd say Buffalo Trace is a better starter since it's sweet forward. Both are $24 in my area.

Agree totally both of these are great starting bourbons and BT is popping up more often around here. Enjoy!!
Without a second thought, those are my two choices for low-cost, high-value bourbons.

EC is one of my favorite value pours. Usually Erins palate is more like mine. But today i side with Josh. Wonder if EC wins ice blind? Fun show today.

Love your work - keep it up - love from Australia
Cheers and thanks for watching!
In Australia BT is $60 EG is $85, BT for me, great vid, thanks

Both are great offerings! Cheers.
Bot are excellent just recently got a store pick of BTrace can't wait to crack it.
So if you combined banana bread with cherry grape? ….Uh, never mind. Nice vid, as always.
Great show 👍
I slam my desk and ask, what are the most beginner-unfriendly bourbons, I want something that breaks my damn mind.
We feel you there!
Much prefer Elijah Craig small batch. Buffalo trace is way too sweet for me and a hard pass.
I’ve got a bottle of BT- just about through it- I like it less and less every time I taste it.
Ya…both solid
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
The inside of a strawberry is pink. That's the definitive answer. 🤷😉
HOW DID WE MISS THAT!?
Buffalo Trace was my first bottle on my journey into bourbon.
EC for me but both are good not great
I bought the Elijah Craig for 35 euro. Its worth 15. Its a bad whiskey
Just not your profile or did you get an actual bad bottle? Bad bottles can happen.

I've had the bottle open 3 weeks now and it's turned into an acceptable whiskey, my advice, open it pour some, and leave the bottle for a month.
$30 - BT is $65 in Australia and it's 80 proof while EC is $90...😅
Whoa, that's quite the price hike!
@@stuffandwhiskey Yeah, nice hefty duty on hard liquor. Hard to justify EC when Rare Breed is regularly "marked down" from $110 down to $100 haha
@@jessemarshall2361 I love elijah craig but I agree with you on that rare breed for just 10 dollars more would also be my choice.
JOSH, you're no-date Sub is looking fantastic.
Thanks Eric! As is your SMP!
Im definitely team elijah craig on this one, partially just because i cant stand buffalo trace
Can’t stand the whiskey or can’t stand the hype?
@@ryananderson4315 the whiskey. It took last in every blind i put it in. Buffalo trace in general is pretty far from my preferred flavor profile.
Fair enough! Cheers.
@@ryananderson4315 btw peanut m&ms are the best for sure
It's painful listening to these two, the girl especially. Also, strawberries are typically pink on the inside.
Plenty of other channels out there. Cheers.
Both are a staple on my bar at home.
