Lmao I’m amazed to find someone who loves Mugi, for the exact same reasons. Mad respect to my fellow Mugi lovers. I hope to one day show my appreciation for Mugi some day, potentially this year. Honey Sweet Tea Time is an absolute jam and it brings me peace, also the solo albums which just tear at my heartstrings. Much love to everyone, and Mugi.
To add on, I think Mugi’s actions are explained by her being a “rich girl” and wanting to fit in to the normal life of her friends. Like the thing with the board game, she chose that because an expensive trip isn’t special to her, while a board game is something that might’ve been too low class for her family, so she never played one. Also with the strawberry, she wanted Mio to hit her because that means they would’ve had a close relationship, as opposed to being treated like a stranger. So I think a lot of her choices were about trying to fit in, not really about the specifics.
The power of K-ON. You don't need to analyse deep themes or deconstruct the narrative to love these characters, watching clips of them hanging out & listening to their music is enough to melt your heart
Tsumugi is like this sheltered rich girl who wants to have a normal ordinary life the middle class is having and she's willing to trade the rich privilege she has to be with commoners. It seems she was supposed to attend a more prestigious high school but she chose to go to a high school intended for the middle class instead.
Reasons to Like Mugi: 1. She is STRONK! 2. Always up for shenanigans and tomfoolery. 3. Thicc eyebrows. 4. Has a gel form. 5. Has built-in yuri goggles. 6. Likes the simple things in life. 7. She's a fair lady on the high plains. 8. She can be like a Mola-mola. 9. She's a great detective. She's basically Sherlock holmes.
I love the way you break the fourth wall (if you can even call it that) throughout the video. Also I'm gonna be real, I didn't even realize that wasn't you doing a voice during the morality section. Granted, this is the first video of yours that I've seen. I do like the message of this video. You don't really need some extremely deep reasoning for liking a character. Sometimes they're just endearing to you and that's all that matters. My favorite characters are Yui and Mio and it's for entirely personal anecdote-driven reasons.
It is understandable, but Mugi is a character with the deep existential dread of being a child of the wealthy. No matter what she does, she'll never know if she succeeded on her merit or because she had a head start. No matter who she meets, she always has to be aware that they might be there to use her for her wealth, even a long con is worth it when the rewards are in the multiple millions. But the light music club, those are her real friends, that she really trusts. Through all her smiles and antics through the show, he eyes are almost always a little sad, a little pensive. *Almost* always. And that almost is a big deal.
Maybe that’s why I fell in love with her: She was breaking the “rich girl” stereotype in animation years before Disney and Arcane did the same. She’s not completely perfect (the infamous strawberry scene, of course), but she also isn’t a total sociopath like Lois Griffin (another gal from a wealthy family)
The most hitting part of Mugi and all K-On series for any serious viewer in my opinion is the ability of a team to purposfully avoid any controversion, dissonance and going bad while they are in a group. They don't really get angry, frustrated, or jealous at each other, there are no actual bad vibes between them or around them even when they have all the rights to do it. And it feels like a hard work from whole team to create and maintain this small light music world, absent of dogshit drama. Mugi works the most. She grinds like crazy for empathy to others and for this chill-out atmosphere. She works diligent barely seen job for a club and it shows. She doesn't ask a reward, she doesn't emphasize how important her work is, she just does it working as a glue for everyone. Drinking tea and having fun is not as easy as it seems at first glance. Thats why Mugi gives off such motherly vibes i think. My favorite part with her is when she tried to scare someone by hiding and accidentally went to sleep. I always ask myself, how much of a thought Mugi put into such ideas which are definitely not typical to her at first. And how much she thought about developing her empathy or helping the group to stay fun and light.
I got no favorite but everytime i see Yui being clumsy,Mio being Shy, Mugi being ditsy, an Ritsu being chill i feel 1000000 years worth of joy,no a billion, no Infinite years worth of joy I am greatful i found this anime a week ago before it was gone from netflix this month and i am glad i can rewatch this on hulu Thank you K-on for being an added chapter of my memories ill enjoy
LMAO, an appearance of the legend Aleczandxr himself was the last thing I expected in a video about Mugi. Absolutely amazing. Yui and Mugi are my personal favorite characters. What makes Mugi so great to me is her absolute positivity or cheerfulness about any and everything, even all small things. She is rich and has access to all the luxurious things you could imagine, but she still appreciates every little thing and moment to the fullest, more than anyone else. Like just going to a cheap sweets store with Ritsu makes her the happiest person in the world. And she cares so deeply for her friends. She brings expensive tea and sweets to school everyday, but only to see all her friends from the club happy. She's unbelievably precious and one of the best characters for very simple reasons. But in simplicity often lies the biggest power.
The choking scene really highlights the great lengths Mugi will go to assert her ownership of the other band members. It’s not necessarily her privileged mindset that makes her flawed (her status is what ultimately made the band successful) but a deep inherent flaw in stark contrast. A deficit... Tsumugi Kotobuki is a sociopath through and through. She views people as objects for her own amusement and regularly manipulates the others in subtle ways. Her onslaught of psychological attacks hide a fragile interior of the archetypal narcissist. Ritsu externalizes schizophrenic disillusion, while Mugi fragments before our eyes: a three-ring circus might be taking place in her face. Her performance is enough for half a dozen tours de force, a whole row of Oscars - it’s exhausting. Conceivably, she’s a great voice actress, but nothing she does is memorable because she does so much... It’s the most transient big performance I’ve ever seen.
Jeez, dude, I know appearance can be deceiving but goddamn. I just like her because she did for anime what Lara Croft did for video games, and that’s defying stereotypes. Sure, she’s rich, but also not spoiled, entitled or arrogant
That was hilarious. Tsumugi is also one of my favorite characters ever. She's the most memorable character in the show because I can totally relate to her desire to make friends for life above all else. And you do just have to wonder what she's keeping inside, under that sly princess smile. It's really sweet actually.
Mugi has her perfection paid by her time, I feel her loneliness. If you carefully read the HighSchool manga which is later on tell about Azusa being the last member left behind of the band, the point is Sumire a companion of Mugi for years speak out that HERSELF was and still the only playmate for Mugi and her parents really leash her time for talent developing. Due to those factors, she often acts awkward to ordinary stuffs, her standards didn’t meet our normalised standard so, I can say she really enjoys every single slice of ordinary life moments, that, we could understand that melancholy. It conflicts that Azusa also the same, you would ask me about Azusa is a loner as well, yet, the thing here is the standards, both Mugi and Azusa are loners in different way, one for being rich and have no much free time to enjoy, the other is definitely alone which has no friends at all but able to understand how normal life is.
They actually did sing ''Honey Sweet Tea Time'' in the cassette version of ''Ho-kago Tea Time II'' which is canon but it wasn't in the anime so you have a point

She's my favourite too. I like her because she's sweet, gentle, kind, generous, a bit naive, well mannered, does a great sunfish impersonation.. does she even have any faults?
Hm interesting. It really is interesting how so many people forget that Mugi does most of the things she does because she wants to fit in with, well, less rich people and feel "normal" so I'm glad you touched on that. It causes people to misinterpret her sometimes but almost all of her moments can be summed up by that desire of hers. Also, she's my wife, I love her.
I think Mugi is essential to keeping the group dynamic balanced in the way we like it. Mio, Azusa, and to a lesser extent Ritsu would love to just keep Keion club to what it's meant to be, and just make music every day. Yui is a much less active character though. She's more interested in eating sweets and talking every day at club. Without mugi, it'd make it seem like Yui is just holding the club back, making her less likable. But since Mugi is there to gladly provide their means of slacking off, she looks very generous and kind, and the others are nice for accepting and indulging her. Some people have said she doesn't really need to be in the show, but that really misses the point of each of the group member's dynamics
Another great video ian, I hope we get plenty more. It seems that people really like this video of yours which says to me maybe you should try making the next video you do more silly like this one to see if it was coincidence or if people keep liking it this is just the style video you would do.
After watching K-On, I was left with the impression she was the most under-utilized of the main characters. I didn't realize your point that she acts as the glue/ the intercessor between the free spirits and the serious girls. Cool. I did get the impression that Mugi was a shifty character though. Not just the strawberry scene, there were others (and the yuri stuff) where I thought, gee, Mugi is a naughty girl.
Here’s a link to a hilarious response to my video. Definitely check out the comments and quote retweets. K-ON fans get it! mobile.twitter.com/KDPheonix/status/1384599156287700993
@@KirbySonicTeam I know it's basic, but I'm more of a Yui guy, but the whole cast is so perfect that distinction is mostly irrelevant. Now I need to make a K-On video. Maybe rank the songs? Break down some of the songs to what they mean? Idk. Something like that. I just need to make a video that isn't literally just a podcast lol
Mugi is a reflection of St. Cecilia. Mugi is a mirror image of this woman. Beautiful heart of a wealthy family who rejects the material world for true heaven on earth in the peace she brings to the group through music. St. Cecilia also was an Organist just as Mugi played the piano/synth. I have nothing to back this up, but even if there is no connection to St. Cecilia whats so ever, this rich music lady fractal pattern will continue to happen thoughout art and the real world. I even sometimes think, a logical conclusion in the story of K-On should push come to shove, Mugi martyring herself for her friends as she would not want to participate in a dark world without the light of HTT. You could say part of said sacrifice is displayed in the episode you mention in the video where she wants have a more physical, up to even violent interaction just to be even closer to the group... closer... to heaven...
Honestly... I think mugi was my favorite character when I was younger because she was the cutest. I was just a girl who loves cute things and Mugi’s fashion sense was great. But now that I look at her, I’ve always found her relatable. I’ve never been one to fit in just like mugi. I love getting involved in shenanigans and drinking tea. Also I feel like she was very background-y and deserves more attention. I never felt part of the group as a kid... but try my hardest to. I agree, you don’t need a good reason to like a character, but if you have a deep reason behind it, then yeah!
mugi is just so fun. i feel like she is the one with depression at night. the one who thinks to much. the one thats part of the group to cope with her deppression. thats what i feel.
In other words, you'd want her as your wife

You are hella underrated, this was the shortest 7 minutes of my life, I highly enjoyed it and I definitely agree with some of your "points" if I can call them that. In conclusion funny, entertaining and basically hella awesome, go win!
Thanks a ton! I hope you’ll enjoy the other videos on my channel and leave you’re thoughts if you have any. They’re why I make these videos in the first place :)
She's my favourite too. I like her because she's sweet, gentle, kind, generous, a bit naive, well mannered, does a great sunfish impersonation.. does she even have any faults?
None
HAHAHA THE ESSAY VOICE IS GENUINELY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY
Hm interesting.
The amazing thing about K-ON is that almost all the characters(with the possible exception of Ritsu) are extremely likeable.
Three essays in seven minutes? What a record!! 😀👏👏👏👏👏
Fact: It is physically impossible to hate Mugi.
Unless you have no soul.
Hummingbird is also a great original kotobuki song
My favorite moment with her is when she said that ritsu was good with women lol. Both my self and ristu got caught off guard
when he said " Azu-nyan? more like Azu * yawn * " i felt that
great essay.
Thanks! Was there anything in particular you liked about it?
@@KirbySonicTeam in-depth description and recognition for mugi. also k-on support so automatic like.
Lol fair
@@KirbySonicTeam :)
You deserve my sub 👍
Thank you :) I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the videos I have here
Also your pfp is legendary btw
I could listen to your saying "She's perfect" all day
THE WINNER approves 👍
Feel the same way you do especially about SOL anime. You don’t need to be in depth about em and just enjoy them for what they are!
Another great video ian, I hope we get plenty more. It seems that people really like this video of yours which says to me maybe you should try making the next video you do more silly like this one to see if it was coincidence or if people keep liking it this is just the style video you would do.
Just my random thought while I try to boost the algorithm
...what about the part where she's like, gay
After watching K-On, I was left with the impression she was the most under-utilized of the main characters. I didn't realize your point that she acts as the glue/ the intercessor between the free spirits and the serious girls. Cool.
I did get the impression that Mugi was a shifty character though. Not just the strawberry scene, there were others (and the yuri stuff) where I thought, gee, Mugi is a naughty girl.
This is why Mugi teamkills Mio
ha this was a great video that actually made me laugh a few times
- a fellow mugi fan
6:02 I've never watched k-on but this scene... Almost cried. I need to watch it
😭❤️ all the characters in k-on is the best character
They are so bloody likeable
Here’s a link to a hilarious response to my video. Definitely check out the comments and quote retweets. K-ON fans get it!

My favorite is mio tho because I'm also a bass player
This was excellent! K-on forever! ^^
She literally asks to get hit by Mio in the anime that was wholesome
Glad your still around in the comments man I watched this a few months back and recently got back into the community
Bro this is perfect
Perfect video for the perfect girl
Mugi's first act of cruelty was only the beginning
That’s awesome you relate so strongly to her! Thanks for sharing all of that. It was really interesting.
Ui is best girl...but Mugi is a close second...
WTf why are you so underrated
The quality tho
Thank you :)
Happy Birthday Mugi!! 🎉🎉
mugi is just so fun. i feel like she is the one with depression at night. the one who thinks to much. the one thats part of the group to cope with her deppression. thats what i feel.
Happy Birthday Mugi!
I think Mugi is just... I don't know just... the spirit of happiness. But she is also the embodiment of evil.
