One of my favorite channels! I love your style of videos and your laid back approach to operating. I've learned a lot about antenna experimentation from you. Hopefully I'll catch you on the air sometime. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Walt, great minds thinks alike. I just picked the RS-978 up myself-still in the packaging. Keep the great videos coming.

Yes I’m very lucky to live right across the street from the spot. It makes going to a Portable location really easy.

Feels like the kx2 is the radio for you. There is also the radio-go set, which you can build yourself with a pelican box and aluminum panels. The icon 705 should be pretty good too. I've been thinking of it myself

Just got the RS-918 Monday. It is up for sale today on QRZ. As you said these radios work for you but I have the x5105 X6100 G90 KX2 FT-818 and now as said the resent RS-918. the screen is what sells this little radio BUT no tuner.

Still giving mine a go. Not just the ATU but the antenna analyzing capabilities of the Xiegus make them much better.

I ordered mine through M0NKA with built-in AT.
    later found attachable battery.
    love it.

I just got an RS-918 today which includes an internal battery. Right now I have it charging up and will try it out later. The menus look pretty complex. It would be nice if you could do a video showing how you've set yours up. I enjoy your videos. Ivan VE7IVN

My x6100 is going on Ebay. Ft8 won't transmit. CAT Error messages. Bluetooth doesn't do anything. Can't connect wifi. Very disappointed.
      Purchase at your own risk.
I'm hoping to replace it with FX-4CR. But they are never in stock.

Hey Walt! Do you still have this radio, and do you still use it, or does it just collect dust? Is it better in your opinion than an X6100? Thanks for all the videos, you do a great job getting your point across.

Is there a build in ATU in the 978?

  • @Tantalicdavid

About a year or so ago Martin Lynch in the UK was going to stock & sell these radios, But there was some type of type approval that wasn't done on this radio by the developer, So Martin Lynch was unable to sell them.

Would be nice if developer could license and approve a builder to assure quality in these radios.

  • @stevewheatstone1856

Hi Walt, looks a very interesting radio. G90 is a bit bulky for travel I sold my G90 and FT817 to fund my KX2. It's so small and is amazing radio. Also if you choose a different radio checkout to elecraft T1 tuner it's tiny. Keep the nice videos coming, hope Karen wasn't there lol. 73 Steve MW0SAW

Steve, so many people are suggesting the KX2 I think I may have to give it some serious consideration. Thanks for the input! I went all the way down to the other end of our seawall to do this video to avoid the Karen LOL

@@COASTALWAVESWIRES it's expensive but worth the money. Difficult to explain, but once you have used one you will see its been designed by a company that are passionate for radio and portable operating. Latest firmware let's you operate for longer on 10w with internal battery. Cheers Steve

I like it for the internal battery. Traveling with the G90 on a plane is a bit more to carry with the battery. Thanks for watching! 73 Walt

Connect Systems lists this at a depth of 3 inches. Would you say that is right even with the tuning knobs? Looks good for under $500 Great video! Hope the Karen does not come round again!
