Absolute classic. What a song. What a tune. I personally don't think George Harrison intended anything malicious with My Sweet Lord, very much a subconscious outcome on his part. But I can see why it went legal.
Contrast that with The Beach Boys trying to pull a fast one on Surfin' U.S.A. You may as well listen to Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen - no wonder he was so pissed off.
A clearer case of plagiarism you will struggle to find.

Such a great song! Ronnie Mack the writer died not long after it was released. I don't think he even lived to see it go to number one but I could be mistaken about that. "He died, aged 23, in 1963, by which time the royalties received for the song had begun to raise his family out of poverty."

There are many names given to songs from the mid to late 50's and early 60's. That tight harmony Doo Wop sound with youthful lyrics had a long lasting impact in that era and a few years after, making its presence known in some late 60's music as well. Popcorn music, teener music, bubblegum pop are all names used to describe that particular sound. I for one really dig it. But to each his own.

Although the tunes of the songs sounded similar, they both had totally different styles. The Chifon's version had the style of a typical 1960's Motown song, Harrison's was that of a 1970's peace song.

I really enjoy the chiffons music. If you liked this one I’ll also like to suggest “one fine day”. I personally think it’s better than “he’s so fine” but they’re both great songs.
Also Rel, if you kind of like the early to mid 60s music, and if you have a stupid sense of humor (like me, no shame in admitting it) then you might like the movie Hollywood knights. “He’s so fine” always reminds me of that movie as it’s part of the soundtrack. In fact a decent amount of these songs in this era are in the soundtrack.

I always thought the lawsuit was ridiculous 🎧🎶 its a great song but to me two completely different songs. That’s what music is all about, sharing. Many artist will admit getting ideas from those who came before them.

Rick Tassone When it’s blatant stealing I’m fine with lawsuits, but when it’s subconscious I think there should be a different law for it, otherwise any songwriter could be sued because every song has at least some element that sounds like another song.

      @@SweetNigeyB I can agree with that 🎧🎶

The treatments may be different, and the plagiarism may be unintentional, but you can even hear similarities in the melody nuances, not just the core notes. I feel bad for George because he truly transformed the original song into a another work of art. It haunted him for years afterwards. See his song "This Song."

haha in filipino, "duleng" means cross eyed, so this was potentially offensive. nice melody, though.
