I was thinking what else he could say. People don't like guys, I dislike bud and bro... ladies and gentlemen is too long. Fans is OK, there's folks and people...Or just say Hi everybody... lol.
The scariest 6 words you hear: "We always do it that way" Great Video. Those tiny nuts must be a pain. I would need a pocket full to make up for drops. I suspect Josh is extremely busy with admin. Thanks for the video, both of you.
I feel like when I drive I dont want to be anywhere near containers or semi's..love this channel Josh and Alex! I have watched alot of your videos and I love how you're teaching as you work and how well y'all work together!
Container wasn’t the issue. The whole trailer came off the truck. It could have happened with any type of trailer. Guy either had a faulty fifth wheel or more likely, he hooked up and didn’t ensure that the fifth wheel properly engaged and hooked around the king pin and it wasn’t 100% locked in.
I get that the container wasn't the issue. Josh has many videos of accidents with containers not being loaded right or if they were loaded right, they end up being in accidents. I just keep out of their way on the road and give them the go ahead if they need to get in my lane by flashin my lights. The cool part is when i get flashing lights back lol..I have mad respect for truck drivers.
@@bendingneedles I always like when people give a light flash. It’s hard to tell a lot of times if someone is holding back to let you over or if they’re just not paying attention. I’ve had times where they held back and ended up finally flashing their lights after a moment because they realized I couldn’t tell what they were doing and other times I’ve had people holding back and as soon as I went to change lanes, that’s when they decided they wanted to zoom zoom down the highway so I’m always cautious of cars.
I like how none of these driver stretch the trailers just listen to hear the king pin latch & then can’t figure out why the trailer is on the ground lol
Just because you do tug doesn't mean that your bar has fully locked in. Hence why you should look under to make sure the bar is all the way across and closed! That also doesn't mean that 5th wheels don't fail either because sometimes they do!
@@ferraritoybox I got completely under the between the truck and trailer with a spot light to check to make sure my fifth wheel latch is completely locked even after a tug. That's the way SCHNEIDER teaches you.
My area had a rare heavy call the other day. A mobile home was tipped over into an intersection during a turn. Blocked the whole intersection. I think it was a two hour clean up.
@7:05 he was like “hey man where you going” 😂😂😂😂 Keep the videos coming, we going to stop by and see you guys one day where we make the cross country trip from Virginia
Another great recovery , however it would have been an idea to check the adjustment of the trailer's kingpin jaws. In all probability, it could fall off the tractor's fith wheel again! 😢
Another great recovery-expect nothing less w/ Big Flipper/Alex!!! Thing I will never understand-when working a scene like this on the highway-why does the truck driver constantly keep getting out of the truck?? Why?? In the towing business many years--I would always tell the driver--'Just stay in the truck unless I need you--I'll tell you what to do--'outside on the ground-you are just another safety hazard-that I have to watch out for.....Geez!!
12:15 nothing wrong with using chains. People have been using them for years. Obviously now the newer tools are available and make it nicer to use but chains have been used for years with no issues. Nice job getting it done smoothly.
Cute anecdote. Are you speaking for the entire industry when you say they've never caused issues? It's simple math. Chain if it's 1/2" is rated at 15,000lbs in a vertical if it's grade 100. Watch my videos. Use load cells. You can easily double that on a single pick point during the upright. You are in the industry, you know this weakens the chain EACH TIME. Just because something has been done a certain way it doesn't mean "it works". Granted it takes a lot to break chain but why on earth would you risk that when tools rated for this exist? And I've actually seen chain break twice in real life from other companies. Those highway 411 shows have it happen all the time. You use the correct tool for the job, no ifs ands or butts. No excuse.
@@PepesTowingService I didn’t say “never” I’d definitely use the setup you have if I was a heavy operator and had my own truck. I’d prefer using equipment like that cause that’s who I am as an operator. Just saying that if can be done with chains as well.
I totally get where you are coming from, but I want to change the industry for the better and that logic is so bad and can get you killed or injured. Tow related injuries happen ALL the time. So much of it is preventable. One single link is holding up and lifting the entire container when you use them in the pockets. One link. Think about that. Of course it will get overloaded, even bent. Will it break the first time? Prob not. Not even 2 or 3. But how many times are you willing to risk it? We used to start fires with sticks and stones, but when's the last time you saw anyone do that? The point is specific tools are rated for and meant for specific jobs. Still running chains in containers in 2024 is just beyond ignorant. This isn't the 80's anymore.
@@PepesTowingService I definitely agree with ya man. We’ve come along way with the tools in the industry. I’m always amazed with all the new stuff out. Just like how they have the rim slings and other synthetic products that are amazingly strong. Hopefully people can adapt to all the new stuff that makes it better and easier to get the jobs done safely, be safe out there and keep up the good work
Yes that's exactly it! To adapt and get better. A lot of older guys in my area are stuck in the same ways that they started 30 years and never evolved. The technology for rigging now is sooooo much more efficient, safe and stronger. Like these links, they are rated for this and designed for these jobs. On certain jobs like a burn job, ya chain is so much easier. But when you really get into formulas, working load limits and seen what I seen, it's just a no brainer to not use chain in these pockets. If we can eliminate the chance for failure and damage, it has to be done.
Lucky he didn't jack up the kingpin when he hit ground. Of course, you wonder whether it was a worn undersize kingpin or failure of the fifth wheel plate that let it drop off in the first place.
Seen that happen at NS Sharonville once. He BLOCKED the whole access road in and out. Drove off. Got back to his company yard asked for another load. Came back out his boss was peeling the companies stickers off the truck.
Man, Alex & Josh end up doing rigging instruction sessions or answering questions for the curious on-scene on over half their recoveries. Like multitasking, gotta do two, three things at once. My hat's off to them, for their patience and good nature.
The company has his order sheet when he picked up,should get FIRED cause it could of been a car there, but who knows,I know you do a smooth transition to get it up going to the yard kool Alex
Super quick and easy with Big Flipper. Though I guess you'd need to do a lot of these to pay for the rotator! Could the other tow not do anything, so they passed it to Pepe's? I get a little confused by these ones where other tows are on scene. I was impressed the fifth wheel pin still worked. Clearly that wasn't what failed. Is it likely the latch on the original truck was undone or broke? Also who drove off with the trailer, was that the original disappearing driver?
Cant believe you let the tractor driver who dropped the container to put his air to the trailer whilst you were climbing the ladder to go on top and remove your kit I would have made him wait till you were off that box
To be in total 100% control. I can get away with it empty. But imagine you're carrying a box with the box in your palms upright. If someone bumps into you, the box can easily fall over right? Now imagine the box had handles at top. You can turn, run, jump and go crazy and as long as you have a grip the box is going nowhere. Super quick and dumb analogy lol but that's the gist of it.
the tiny pieces of gravel ? no they are worse things on the road that we never see, I normally pick up the big items. if you notice I remove that huge metal stand from the chassis leg
