I think Hick's confidencce was so smashed in this series ( he did get some of the best yorkers ever) he carried it all the way to the end of his time for England, Shame as he did so well in the ODIs
He got a 178 in India soon after and he averaged 46 between 1993- April 1996. He needed fine tuning. I saw him make a hundred for Worcester against Syd Lawrence and Walsh on a bad surface at Gloucester. His Worcester debut he scored 82* v Syl Clarke and in 1988 v West Indies he scored 150 to get to 1,000 runs before end of May (under intense scrutiny) so he could do it. He didn't seem to get the coaching he needed. Strange world as Robin Smith for me was God at that time. Toughest batsman I seen and look at his off the field mental problems since.
Graham Hick was a confidence player and unfortunately for him he was playing for England in the 1990’s. Imagine if he was involved with England today. Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum would tell him you’re in the side and we rate you so enjoy your cricket and go out and play your natural game. Hick would flourish. That said Waqar and Wasim were brilliant and those yorkers were incredible.
I remember it being quite hot in the 2nd half of the summer in 1992. Late July and August. Gower should have gone on the tour to India in early 1993 in my opinion. The selectors made a mistake in not picking him.
Back when we would play one country at test and one day cricket in the summer. It would be 5 test match series as well. None of this 2 games against one country, 3 against another and then 2 against someone else rubbish.
England would have been better off picking Dominic Cork for the test series against Pakistan instead of Tim Munton for example. Or any of the one cap wonders that we liked to pick in the early 90’s. He should have made his debut earlier than in the 1995 series against the West Indies in my opinion.
I think they must have finished when the BBC lost the rights. I have most of those as well, although the 1996 season one I have is an excellent version from Sky rather than the Cover Point version.
@@daveborder7751 Yes, i have both the Sky Sports & Cover Point reviews of the '96 season, although if i remember correctly the Sky Sports one wasn't that great.
@@AshesHereos Ultimate Cricket 1996 I think was its name-personally I loved it, had extended highlights of the Lancs vs Yorks B&H cup classic & Eng vs India & Pakistan series, think there was a report on the future of English cricket post Illingworth.
Hello Abdullah, very simply, that was the length of game played for ODIs in England from the first one in 1972, up to 1995. Bear in mind also that the first three World Cups, held in England, were 60 overs per side. Pakistan's home ODI matches used to be 40 overs per side. Only after the 1996 World Cup did 50 overs per side get applied uniformly to all ODIs. Thanks for watching, DARREN
More of these season review videos please!! I love watching things like this.
Loving this. The 2nd test at Lords is one of the all time great test matches!
horror season for Inzi. He was literally the hero for Pakistan 8 weeks earlier in the World Cup. But had a really poor tour of England

please tell me why this ODI series between England vs Pakistan had 55 overs instead of 50 ?
@@ABDULLAH746 that’s how it used to be. It actually used to be 60 overs a side.

@@randyborstol2491 agreed. Alan Knott as wicket keeper as well.
@@randyborstol2491 mind you Brearley couldn’t really bat. He was a bloody good captain though.

He plays in the last one day match... bit late still

I have all the '92-'98 "Film/Story of the English Cricket season" VHS tapes. Did they release any season reviews before & after?

South Africa made the mistake of bowling short and hitting Devon Malcolm in 1994. I’m surprised Devon didn’t make Pakistan pay in 1992 as well !!

35:49 england were heading to a win but little did they know that 8 wickets in the 4th innings of the test match would be their last
1:08:36 for the ball that is so wide it's a health hazard
