Was interested to hear Richie say that the Rest of World XI in 1970 "It wasn't Sobers who dominated it". Really Richie? 588 runs at 73.50 including 2 centuries (highest score 183), 3 fifties and 21 wickets at 21.52!! Which by my calculations is more runs than Barlow and more wickets too

Thommo was well finished in '85, he only went as a last minute replacement because so many Aus players pulled out to go on the rebel tour of RSA. His last good season was '82-83 but really he never got back to full form after he wrecked his shoulder in '76.

Imran missed a 1978 series in England and he was at the peak of his bowling at that time but due Kerry pecker he was not selected by PCB although he was ready to play and was already playing for Sussex... none of the pecker cricketers were selected in that series... that’s the reason he missed out in 70s in England ... as well know that he was novice in 74 and 71

All the great cricket team were there . All teams were strong, west indies, England, Australia, India and Pakistan .India was the only country played without fast bowlers and won matches . Bedi, Prasanna, Chandra and venkat wre great spinners. Gavaskar and Solkar made the opening attack with their gentle medium pace , After 4 or 5 overs bedi came into attack and these spinners can spin with shining on the ball. Gret . Even New zealand , much weekerside, those days , had good batsman and bowlers.Kapil Dev , Holding, Garner, Marshall must have come in early 70's and the cricket would have been much more entertaining.We were unlucky to see the great players from south Africa because of apartheid. The Pollocks, Barlow, Barry Richards , Clive Rice were great players and would have made records in cricket history. After Bradman ,Grahame Pollock holds highest batting average of 61 , if my memory is correct. Also the commentary was classic .
pradeep kumar India was the weakest team of the 70’s. Even worse were their ODI matches . Gavaskar scored 36 not out in 60 overs against England in75 WC . Then loosing to SL in 79 WC . In those years when WI , PAK and SA players were honing their skills in county crickets no batsmen from India were not in county championship . Finally no players from India was recruited in the Packer’s WSC. However with the entry of great N Kapil Dev in the late 70’s the whole philosophy of Indian cricket started changing . Now they are on top of cricket world .
That Indian bowling attack in 1974 was as poor as I can remember. No penetration at all. If Denness and Lloyd were getting big centuries that says it all . Batting wasn't great either.
O'yeah, Dennis Lillee's beautiful run up and delivery stride. Lillee and Andy Roberts my favorites of the 70's. Great to see some cameo vision of Graham Pollock.
What gets me is how fast Holding, Lillie, Roberts et al are bowling - just look at how far back the keeper and slips are. They're hardly ever back that far these days as the ball just wouldn't carry. Not only is the bowling demon fast, the guys facing it are wearing caps or sun hats and wearing 1970s equipment - pads that were one step up from a rolled up National Geographic, gloves that were as thin as hell, very few chest pads. Most went out in pads, thigh pad, box and gloves. Against Holding! And with a bat with a pretty small middle, at least compared to today's bats. Going even further back, imagine Bradman facing Larwood with 1930s equipment! This was the era I started watching cricket and I still love it - just wish today's camera angles were available then! Great vid but I find it odd that Packer's World Series Cricket doesn't get a look in - that's the harbinger of the modern game and it's a travesty the runs and wickets taken there are not considered "first class", even to this day. Lastly, what a joy to see Gavaskar and Gower in their pomp again.
Matt Brown Totally agree as you make some valid and relevant points. Clothing was often a mixture of whites and creams. The bowlers would have loved modern comfortable boots and batsmen more so the modern bats that launch the ball with ease into the stands! And with the limited over games won or lost by a few ones, fitness and fielding has change enormously! No more burly fast bowlers swinging their arms as they walk onto the field for their warm up!

Imran Khan was doing well in matches against England, Austrialia. During 1970s his performance as a bowler was excellent.
He matured through out the 70's; changed his bowling action, sent from medium to a genuinely quick match winning fast bowler.

I remember my Dad enthusing about Alvin Kallicharran's innings in the 1975 Prudential Cup, hooking Lillee repeatedly.
