    That really is a great fly. We see complete mastery of the art, here.

    I'm delighted to see that my Hatch Guide - no longer in print - is still inspiring new fly patterns after twenty years. It's wonderful to see how fly tying has evolved since it was first published.

    Awesome tie Davie, you never cease to amaze.
    you have been opening many a blind eye to the true colors that are actually a part of these tiny creatures and not what is always called out for in the patterns we have been accustomed to..
    All the best

    Hey Davie, been down for the past week and a few days after getting a double whammy, and tested positive for not only the dreaded COVID, but also influenza A. Talk about feeling like crud for a while. Anyway, nice to see you’ve been hard at it and still uploading videos for us to keep us busy during the off season or tying season. Really like the addition of the doubled thread rib for support and reinforcement of the cdc body. Since this is one of my favorite patterns you demonstrate often, I’ll have to give it a go at my own vise. I did email you back in a new message the photos you asked for in your last message with me. I know life gets extremely busy, especially this time of year, but wanted to let you know that I sent them none the less. Take care, thanks for all you do for our community, and Merry Christmas.

    Hi Davie, Really enjoyed this video. A very creative dry fly pattern using CDC for the body and wings on your interpretation of the Dun. Best regards, Wayne 😀👍

    Hi Davie! Here in eastern Maine our Hendricksons are really pink bodied. I could use pink dyed cdc , I suppose.

    May I suggest a loch fly for one of your next tying videos: the stone goat (bob fly and muddler variants).

    Thanks Davie. Another lovely video. I'd love to see how you add floatant to a CDC fly like that. Being pretty new to tying/using CDC flies I'm always concerned about drowning it in floatant.
    Cheers Ray

    What fantastic tying resulting in a even fantastic fly. Going to give it a try, but I'm afraid it will not look half as good as yours.

    Jings, adding floatant to that? If ye fell in ye could just hang on to it and swim to the bank! 😆
    Great fly; I must split more wings like that I think.

    Beautiful. Do you use a dry floatant or the paste wax? Ive been told to only use dry on CDC.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael,
      A dry floatant is very good for CDC or what I like to use is mucilin on my dry flies and I am glad you liked the fly..

    I have a question about this one. I am reluctant to split wings to a position that appears more like a spent then a dun. In the picture, the wings are more upright and slanting backward. Also, the natural has some brown banding in the body. Wondering it the tie can be modified for a more upright wing leaning back via a Wally wing style and the choice of thread in brown or dark brown? Thoughts?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David,
      It's worth keeping the wing straight up rather than splitting them and as well tying them to lay back after tying in the tail and body to get that lovely profile of the fly in the photo..I have tyed some Wally winged flies in the past but not many though it is a great way to give you a great looking wing..
      All the very best Davie

    Nice fly Davie. What colour is the lighter CDC you used?
    Separately, if you’re looking for ideas a few Czech nymphs and winter grayling patterns would be brill if you get a chance. Thanks

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adrian,
      It was a light olive though I used Veniards olive dye but removed the CDC before it got too dark..It's been a while since I tyed some Czech nymphs so I'll keep it in mind..

      @@DavieMcPhail thanks Davie. Out of idle curiosity last weekend I picked up a book on fishing with a french leader. Fast forward a week and I have a euro nymphing setup in the post and I’m filling a box for grayling.
