- A very gooday to everyone. Since the last episode of Season 9 of Travels by Narrowboat went live, I've been asked quite a lot where I am, what I'm doing and am I OK?
Check out this video for the answers, where not only do I discuss what's been keeping me extrememly busy for the last 5 or 6 weeks, I also do something which many viewers have urged me to try for a very long time - eat Vegan food.

As other people have probably already said, Vegan food doesn't have to be like that Aldi crap! I'm not vegan, but my daughter is and we make some cracking meals like curries, and chilli and various soups, even vegan pizzas, that are very tasty with none of those pesky additives! Lets face it, even 'proper' meat based ready meals are junk really, the secret is buying decent ingredients and experimenting yourself. Happy hols!
I'm Vegan Kevin, so glad you swallowed 😮 I personally don't eat a lot of processd vegan meat as I just don't do meat. I think some people who decide to become Vegan have a hard time coming down from meat so that type of food helps them on their journey. Vegans and vegetarians know how to cook and don't need to use this processed garbage 😊

(Like you, I have always been curious why the vegan culture strives so hard to make vegan foods appear to be meat...if they are not meat eaters. Something to ponder, eh?) I don't know how anyone with a modicum of brains would put such rubbish into their bodies. I am reminded of the film "Soylent Green" 🙂 Enjoy your road trip!!
It’s funny what extreme temperatures can do to a person…the man in extreme cold takes off his shoes and socks, whilst the man suffering from heat exhaustion fires up the barbie and cooks fake food 😂

Deepest sympathies on the vegan stuff. Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole 😆! Not to be mean, but I very much enjoyed my homemade sausage, egg & cheese breakfast burrito while watching your vegan experiment. Very good to see you back again. I'm glad that you were not ill or had some other catastrophe. Your road trip looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. I have to tell you you just cracked me up today. I also cannot imagine the logic in fact I don't think there is any logic in somebody who doesn't want to eat meat for it to look like meat.
In the U.S., most homes and buildings have air conditioning. Being on a boat sitting on water must be really tough. Enjoy your bike adventure. You'll probably get a chance to get some relief.

As a Vegan I appreciate your attempt to try what you did. Many people who are Vegan make the choice to reduce the animal cruelty/exploitation aspect, not because of flavour. Many Vegans are junk foods vegans. But the tastiest and healthiest route is when you can create yummy plant based foods from whole food sources. Would love to see you retry a follow up video from whole food, plant based ingredients and tell us your thoughts. Bare in mind, our tastebuds are conditioned. And many would sacrifice a taste or texture for one less harmed animal. Good one you!! I loved your take!! Welcome back!!!

I went veggie mostly last year and tried veganism this year unfortunately having blood cancer my levels dropped and my consultant asked me to eat ‘normally’ for now. Which I did any my levels improved. There are some really great bacon alternatives. I think quorn is one brand. I understand the fake meat scenario and feel it’s done so people becoming vegan can transition with the good they’re used to. But there’s some amazing veggie food out there. There is also some awful vegan and veggie food too. Maybe try a vegan food market ? Good luck if you try it again have an awesome holiday. Best wishes

Tofu and curried vege sausages were my vegetarian goto. Tofu was done in Tamari and honey. Gave it flavour.
great seeing you again, Kevin -- sorry about the uncomfortable heat and humidity (a seasonal affliction here in texas) -- I'm not seeing many electric fans in your shots of Aslan's interior, highly recommend you obtain one or two small ones, can make life more bearable during the hot weather (unsolicited advice) -- must comment on your generosity of spirit, devoting your vacation time to repairing your friend's engine...I've sampled the soybean meat substitutes, will be sticking to meat in the near term...such a pleasure catching up with you-- enjoy what remains of your holiday!!!!

Kevin, think of you often during the weeks, and really hadn't expected to hear from you for some time! I imagine you and Aslan chugging (Aslan chugging, not you) down the canal. I did have a vegan girlfriend many years ago, fruit and veg are fine, but the carnivore in me does need to be fed. Thanks for the time you take to video, chat, edit, and upload. You have many fans here in your former colonies across the pond.

Hi Kevin, good to see you. That was an interesting experiment with the vegan food. I’ve tried plant based sausages, but not a big fan. I mainly eat fish and vegetables, and there’s no way I could give up dairy. Anyway, enjoy your road trip, take care, and see you when you get back.

Kevin, regarding the humidity. When I lived in the Philippines with no AC, I’d jump in the shower, not dry off and jump in my bed on the top sheet. Then I’d turn on a fan. Cool ALL night!!!!!

Welcome back Kev and Aslan! I laughed thru your attempts to eat some vegan meat and I agree with you. We have moved away from a lot meat. Maybe a couple times aweek or we just eat oriental food. Enjoy your road trip, we be staying in cuz its hot and very humid here in mother Texas. ❤❤❤
Same here, I generally keep meat to 2 or 3 times a week now. Lots of salads and fish to.

YT must have sensed something in the air - and not just that weird lets pretend to be meat stuff. enjoy your holiday - hope you find some cool places or at least with some cool water and a bit of shade. to be honest you ARE looking a finer figure of a man than a year or two ago - keep up with the unadulterated greens added to your straight from the butcher meat. that's been helping us look a bit trimmer and feel a lot healthier. all the best - don't rush back
