Thank you for your kind words! I did this interview close to 3 years after coming home from the Philippines, so there were a couple of things I said wrong (mixing up kare kare and caldereta and thinking they were maybe coconut and not banana leaves for budal fights). Anyways so I’m sorry about that - I have to say, though, I didn’t have any exposure to the Philippines or Tagalog until I was 19 years old! I always tell people that language comes easier to me because I love music and that’s like another language too - but I believe it’s also a gift from God and He can help you learn anything you need to when you’re trying to do something good. I hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy this amazing country - I’m still saving so I can go back soon ❤️

Hi. You are welcome in the Philippines. However don't expect too much. Let your daily experience be your guide. Also know what you want in the our country. For example if you want adventure explore the mountains etc. If you want to have a pleasant time like what9 what you enjoy where you come from then go to BGC, makati and other cities. If you want the sea or surf the Philippines is surrounded by water. In short we have surprises in wherever you go. Maybe it is best to inquire from tour guides and experience Filipino hospitality and what we can offer you to make.your visit memorable. Mabuhay.

Her experiences in the Philippines tells that she really loves and missed the country and her friends over there. She also loved the culture... Anyway, if you're planning to go to the Philippines, please take my advice; fly direct to Manila but stay at BGC or Makati for 2-3 days to plan your itineraries and buy some stuff before going on island hoppings, that's it. Remember to stay safe, of course, and plan your next move. Welcome and have a nice holiday here! MABUHAY!💕

Hey Ovela, I've been following your journey reacting to Filipino content and I'm so excited to see you embark on your adventure to the Philippines! Just a friendly heads up - snakes are usually found in farms, forests, or near lakes, so you shouldn't worry too much since you'll be staying in the city and near beaches. While drug addiction is a concern, just be cautious of your surroundings, especially in night clubs. As for spiders, as long as your living space is clean or you avoid dirty areas, you should be all good. Enjoy your trip and take in all the beauty the Philippines has to offer! Safe travels!

Regarding your comment which is true : the girl said it’s easy to make friends but then some people said it’s hard to make friends. You asked which is which ?
I think the foreigners who said it’s hard to make friends - the locals who can’t understand how foreigners talk because they use slang or they talk so fast . The locals will avoid foreigners who talk like that. They don’t like to appear stupid if they can’t understand what the foreigner is talking about . In the rural areas where foreigners don’t go , the people there are not used talking to foreigners. So they avoid the foreigners. Of course the foreigners would think it’s hard to make friends with them. But in cities where foreigners are common , the locals would be easy to deal with. Filipinos are humble and hospitable generally . If you notice the person is shy , just don’t talk very fast because if they understand what you’re saying - they usually would be accommodating. The people who are not friendly are just avoiding talking because they can’t understand.

making friends i guess depends upon your personality. filipinos may be friendly but they are not usually forward or aggressive. but if you engage them they will be accomodating.

The resilience inherent in the Filipino people is what drives us to persevere and continue living. The rarity of suicide in our culture can be attributed to this resilience. Merely being alive signifies our enduring hope for better circumstances. This is encapsulated in the phrase "buhay pa" (still alive), symbolizing our ability to bounce back from adversity in life.

This is what she said word by word. I hope it makes sense because this is the literal translation of what she said.
"Good morning to all of you. I hope you are all healthy and happy with your lives. I thank you for all the kindness that you have shown me when I was living in the Philippines - in your country. I thank you for your love because it's very hard for me to leave your country. And it's scary. Thank you for your example of love (this could mean: showing a good example of what love means). Not all the time you'd meet kind people, people who are very generous and willing to share. I hope you know that I remember you in my prayers, in my mind everyday. And I am missing all of you. I want to return back to your place (country) to see you again. And that's it. That's my message. Thank you."

@Ovela she said she stayed for one and a half years. She is most probably an LDS missionary. They are language-trained before they go and then they are "shipped out" and live there like a local with their own apartments and doing their own laundry and stuff. That is why she seems so immersed in the culture.

    • @emmelynhawkes6553
      @emmelynhawkes6553 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, I was an LDS missionary but my “language training” was about 6 weeks and most of that was studying the scriptures rather than the language! We did learn some basic phrases for teaching and greeting people in Tagalog but that is about it. I am really grateful I was able to be immersed in the culture so much because of my mission :)

Loved the video keep making them. Friendly Tips if you are going to the Philippines.
Don't get the wrong idea, I love Philippines not because I am Filipino but like all the countries in the world there are still places that are dangerous.
Still Filipinos are hospitable and friendly.
    1. Visit Siargao, El nido, Palawan, coron, boracay (wonderful beaches)
    2. Always ask if you are not sure for directions or probably anything. Don't worry they will answer to almost everything you ask with a smile. For prices try to ask more than 2 people.
    3. When you see someone stares or looks at you, just smile or wave. In other countries it is rude to stare but in the Philippines its not a big deal, they are just curious. Not for a long time though.
    4. Try to have a friendly talk to every interesting person you meet. Don't worry it's not rude, they are more than willing to help and you might get some fun ideas to do while staying. And know the things you might want to avoid. depends on what you want to do or not. Or just ask if it is dangerous to go there at night. It will help a lot.
    5. Taboo topics? none as long as its not an insult they will understand.
Have Fun and Enjoy your stay!

If you want to experience what she had experienced, I suggest you go north. Baguio City is also the best down to La Union. Place that you mentioned such as Siargao and Palawan are what we call high ends tourist destinations and also equally beautiful places.

I think shes a missionary Ovela, I'm a Cebuana (it means from Cebu) and I meet some of them and I really enjoy taking to the foreigners when they visit to the Philippines, I remember when I was in grade school, in the province ( my hometown) I saw a foreigner walking in the road so I talk to him then my father shouted and mention my name please stop interrogate the foreigner and I shout back to my father and say I'm not interrogating him father I just making him welcome and feels like home because his alone away from his family. Then he said that he visit his gf..

21:13 Don't worry, bug repellants are available everywhere. You can buy them in souvenir shops in whichever resort/hotel you're staying, at convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Drugstores, and sometimes even in sari-sari stores found in most roadsides.
