I spent a long weekend there and hired a bicycle to celebrate finishing my days in university. Have you seen the book by Tim Robinson called “stones of Aran” . He walked the island and mapped it. It’s a fascinating book. As a person who can speak Irish I found some pronunciations a bit unusual. Thank you for making the film.
An enjoyable film, glad you liked your visit. I am from Inishmore myself and recommend if you ever return to stay not a day trip but a few days to really take in the island and it's people. Two things. Dun Aengus (my middle name) is pronounced Aengus not Angus which is a fine Scottish name. Also you suprised me with your story of my ancestors being taken from the islands as slaves!. I have NEVER heard such a claim before such as this. Yes pirates attacked boats off Galway City to pillage but slavers?. Coming to the Aran Islands! Never ever heard of such a claim as you portrayed. All the best now traveller.
Thanks Thomas - slavers taking men and women is one of the greatest crimes of the Emerald Isle that really isn’t spoken about - they’ve hushed it that most aren’t taught about it. There are some fascinating books on the subject just not widely read. I hope to return and spend a night or two there. Thank you for watching and Subscribing :)
Very similar and much is similar in the language from my limited knowledge on welsh and Gaelic. Some words and way things are said are different but mostly the same from what I understand ?
also the 3 islands are inis oir the eastern island as oir is east ,the Middle island is Inis Meain which means exactly that and obviously the biggest island is inhe tin names for islandsis mor the big island, they are what its says on tin names ndsfor the islands
You need to change that 'Ireland flag map' in the title picture, the top right should have either the Northern Irish flag or the Union Jack flag showing as Northern Ireland is not under Irish Souverenty but British. You're practicing world media with utube so you should have the simplest of facts right, even the visual ones.😠
And Michael Collins is from Ireland, but as a Brit you should know the difference 😉. Like the Aran Islands are Irish and the Island of Arran is Scottish but some people still put the wrong one in the navi 😂🤣
Lovely reflective video. I live in the north east now but lived twenty years in Galway, where my heart remains.
Absolutely stunning thank you for filming this ❤

We just visited from US: our favorite out of 12 days
It is a remarkable place :)
Ynys is Welsh for island and môr is sea, I gather that inis is gaelic for island and mór is sea. So similar.

Can’t even pronounce any names ffs but wants to sound like a tv presenter.

What are you talking about? The Aran Islands are Ireland 🇮🇪 - they are certainly not part of Northern Ireland.
I wasn't talking about the Aran Isands, read my comment again.
It’s a Michael Collins Map
@Wrong-Way-Round however now I understand your comment - thanks for the heads up - you weren’t clear with your initial rant.
