    I've cried every time I listened to that song, ever since the album came out. I saw them live last week and they played it, making me cry in a club full of people. You should read the lyrics. It's heartbreaking. This is my favorite song on an album full of perfect tracks and I think that says a lot.

    I am not fluent in Russian, but I am learning it. The translation that Dan Z gave is about the same as what I got, although I did not understand the idiom in the third line, but his explanation makes perfect sense. The literal translation is something like "In the late spring it will become overgrown with grass"
    Anyway, this is a very beautiful and tragic song, it's a tribute to everyone who helped them to become who they are, their fans, each other, and most importantly their parents. Here is what Tatiana said about the song:
    "Retrospection is one of the most personal songs we have ever written. Being a full time touring musician, spending most of the time on the road ... of course we are making our biggest dream come true and living each day to the fullest, but nobody mentions that there is a dark side. We do not see people who devoted themselves to us entirely, who gave us everything they had and more... We miss them and they miss us in return, and yet we should call them more often... much more often than we do.
    .
    .
    I am talking about our parents.
    .
    .
    For most of the JINJERS, our parents are separated from us not only by distance, but also by war and politics. We don't have an opportunity to visit our parents even when we are in Ukraine. And it feels like they are on the other side of the planet even if we are literally only 800 km away. The worst thing is that, now being in our 30s, year after year, it feels like the storm clouds are gathering above. We all know that the day will come when we will feel alone all of a sudden... and we will lose them. The people, but for whom, we'd never make it. The bitter taste of understanding this is almost unbearable.
    .
    .
    We look at this song as an anthem to the ones who raised us, who sacrificed everything for the sake of our happiness no matter what the costs, even despite our own thankless and ingratitude towards them. The people who showed us that the purest love ever does exist - the love of the father and mother for their children. Thank you.
    .
    .
    *«Наши мамы и папы, мы хотим, чтобы вы знали, что мы тоже вас любим, и что без вас мы бы никогда не добились всего этого и не осуществили бы свою мечту. Спасибо вам за все» (Mom and Dad, we want you to know that we love you too, if not for you we'd never make it this far and never fulfill our dreams. Thank you for everything.)* "
    If you like when she sings in Russian, you should check out one of their older songs: Желаю Значит Получу. It's completely in Russian, although it's their only song with no clean vocals. Even still, it's an absolute banger

  • @Randomizer939

    Song is a tribute to their parents that made this all possible. Their parents are in Donbass warzone in Ukraine I think or what I have understood from interviews.
    I have loved only few metal bands like all the way, first it was Pantera, then it was Lamb of God, now it's Jinjer - of course they are going to be big, just look at the pattern ;)

  • @zhukovx
    @zhukovx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +107

    Ok, didn't find any correct translation\meaning for the part in Russian, so tried to do this with my interpretation as a native speaker line by line:
    Кто тебя выхаживал,
    (That one) Who was nursing you,
    Грусть любовью скрашивал,
    (That one who) Brightening up your sadness with love,
    Позднею весной порастет травой
    In the late spring will become overgrown with grass (comment: this Russian idiom means here “Will be forgotten over time\or after death”)
    Тот, кто тебя нёс над головой,
    That one who carried you above his head,
    Тот, кто тебя нёс над головой.
    That one who carried you above his head.
    Hope this will be helpful, if any corrections - welcome.

    • @j.f.fisher5318
      @j.f.fisher5318 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This basically matches what I've seen posted elsewhere, thanks for explaining the idiom - hadn't seen that mentioned before.

    • @zhukovx
      @zhukovx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jeffrey Fisher not arguing here, basically yes, but as always when translating any poetry it may be tricky sometimes, because direct translation not always can show what exact meaning is, this is even debatable in original, lol

      @j.f.fisher5318 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zhukovx I totally get it. I'm also a Rammstein fan (knowing just enough German to get me in trouble - but not enough to get me out haha) and I've seen examples where I felt there were layers of meaning that literal translation was inadequate.

      @autemniaequinoctius2030 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Dan Z
      He will overgrown with grass at the late spring - this is metaphor for early death and symbolically describes forgotten groomed grave overgrown with grass. Tatiana means the parents’ death

    • @barkingwolff
      @barkingwolff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@j.f.fisher5318 You do not understand not only this idiom, but many more (for example, look at "When two Empires Collide" or "Sit Stay Roll Over" - you didn't understood this at all! ...))
      That is why you are trying to dispute the facts that adequate residents of Ukraine bring to you, but you listen exclusively to what they tell you from the TV in the news - we have everything at all not as you hear))
      And that is precisely why Jinjer, as a UKRAINIAN band, announced their special tour in Russia - just thank God they did not become the product of our (and American) deceitful propaganda about "world evil from Russia."

    This song is just so amazing, even after hearing it so many times since Macro came out it just doesn't get old (well, none of their songs do as far as I've experienced. The song is gorgeous, but one point I have to bring up is about the heavy side of song. If someone told me a band was going to do slow heavy guitar and bass, with blast beats from the drums, I'd doubt that would work... and yet Roman, Eugene, and Vlad do exactly that! It not only works, it sounds amazing!

    Really loving your music reaction videos since your first Jinjer reaction, enjoying to see your reaction and to listen to your opinion on all that different music. I don't know but you are always able to deliver some nice aspects to the song you're listening to. Jinjer is special and it amazing how they evolved over the years and they really deserve everything they experience right now - really going big. But I will take the chance to introduce you to another maybe new band for you. The band is called Spiritbox. And I'm pretty sure you will enjoy their work. I'm feeling kinda bad because I'm writing this below a Jinjer video because I read alot of comments comparing those two bands but there isn't really anything you could compare in my eyes. I really would love to see you checking out Spiritbox, I'm sure you won't regret. Their style and compositions are just unique. I don't like to give every detail about them because you should experience it yourself. But I would like to say that Spiritbox always sounds djenty with nice tunes riffs and bass lines. Their compositions are always perfect and polished. And yes, they also have a female vocalist. It's Courtney LaPlante. She and her husband Michael (the guitarist) created this project in 2016 I think. Before that they were part of the band iwrestledabearonce (IWABO), maybe you heard of them. I think Courtney joined IWABO in 2012. But their current style is very different from that. Therefore they are already in the business for a while and they really know what they are doing. I just have the feeling you would enjoy listen to them. If you wanna give them a try, I suggest you to listen to their new single Blessed Be. Or to their last single called Rule of Nines if you like it a bit heavier. It will give you a pretty nice overview what to expect I think - but every song sounds special and unique. I'm sure you won't regret checking them out and I would really appreciate that. Thank you :)

      Yes. And this is ABSOLUTELY true... with looking from one side...
      But why is no one talking about the OTHER side? After all it is obvious that the second side is the complete control of the USA ... and this is not a "conspiracy theory", even the very last dumbass understands this! Since 2014 Ukraine has been a colony of the United States, being a simple tool in the fight against the enemy in the bipolar world (USA - Russia) ...
      Nothing more ... just a business ... only a clear calculation ... only work on the result ... and Ukraine here is just a tool, or rather a “used resource of influence” and nothing more ...
      You there in America in the 60s ALMOST freed blacks, but your government continues to treat all other countries as "southern plantations" ...
      And do not be surprised, therefore, that the radicals regularly arrange terrorist acts there for you - people like me just UNDERSTAND the essence of what is happening, and less balanced and tolerant people blame the people, instead of blaming the leadership ...
      I apologize for the emotionality, but WAR is also going on in my country precisely thanks to the "peace mission of the USA" ... (((((((((

      They spend vague reform
      Change the name and form of traffic cop
      Throw the elderly through one place
      Every day checking out what we test!
      Here the type of democracy , in fact the kingdom
      I love my country ... and hate
      State , the state , the state !
      I hate
      State , the state , the state !
      Pay taxes and live peacefully
      With this money to continue the war
      People share power and oil
      We are pawns in the games, we are not people , no!
      Pay taxes , live in peace ,
      And poheru the fact whether you live with dignity !
      Your right - shut up , keep quiet !
      You still do not understand! ?
      Goni grandmother , your mother!
      Original (maybe Google-translate can do more but I doubt it ))) :
      Заплати налоги и живи спокойно,
      Но каждый рубль как покойник.
      На эти деньги люди сверху
      Нас, всех остальных, превращают в
      перхоть.
      Они проводят невнятные реформы,
      Меняют гаишникам название и
      форму,
      Кидают стариков через одно
      место,
      Ежедневно проверяя, из какого же
      мы теста!
      Здесь типа демократия, на самом
      деле царство!
      Я так люблю свою страну... и
      ненавижу
      Государство, государство,
      государство!
      Я ненавижу
      Государство, государство,
      государство!
      Заплати налоги и живи спокойно!
      На эти деньги продолжают войны!
      Люди делят власть и нефть,
      Мы пешки в играх, мы не люди, нет!
      Плати налоги, живи спокойно,
      Им похеру на то, живешь ли ты
      достойно!
      Твое право - заткнуться, молчать!

      And also take into account they don't think Russia is in war with Ukraine. They say Ukraine occupied itself. So you can call them russians. They are not ukrainians.

      @@user-qr6td3ub2q A very interesting war: for 6 years Ukraine has been fighting with Russia, but there are no prisoners of war, there is no evidence of real troops, there is no evidence from the "leading intelligence services" (a la Mi-6, CIA, Mossad, etc.)
      Like in a joke: they declared war, but the enemy never came?

      @@barkingwolff if Russia hasn't occupied eastern Ukraine why is Russia making demands that it requires Ukraine to meet to have peace. Strange war where a nation that isn't fighting decides if it ends or not.

    They were actually quite nervous about releasing a song in their native tongue again. (Some of their earlier songs are either pure Russian or released with both English and Russian vocals.)
    I saw Tatiana make a joke about it in an interview a while back about how Teacher, Teacher is about prejudice and even they aren't immune to having prejudices.

    I agree their music will stand the test of time. I understand some people don’t get it and are often misogynistic and say things like “you only like them because they have a female vocalist, all you metal heads are same” etc. I’d say does that mean I only like Dolly Parton because she’s a woman🤣🤣🤣. I just like good innovative music and a good singer with a good vocal range to be able to add contrast to the music. Incidentally Corey Taylor is one of my favourite male singers and he has a huge vocal range, but so does Tatiana. But it’s not just about their range it’s their ability to apply the different styles at the right times to add the vocals to fit the great music that they are putting vocals over.🤘🤘🤘

    Excellent reaction as usual. I subscribed when you did "Pisces" and I'm glad I did.
    I stopped listening to contemporary metal in the early nineties when 99% of lyrics were about girls, cars, booze and how macho you could be. I stuck with my hard rock/metal/prog tracks recorded in the 70's and 80's. I started listening to modern metal again when bands like "System Of A Down" and "Linkin' Park" became popular. And now we have powerhouses like Jinjer... What a time to be a fan of extreme music!
